POPSNorway Grants King Penguin Knighthood The incumbent penguin is the second one to fill the role since 1972, as the average lifespan of the penguin is about 20 years. It all takes a suspension of disbelief - indeed, you might ask: "Are you having Olav?" To which there is only one reply: "That'll be Sir Olav to you."

POPSPill may put women off 'Mr Right's' scent In the last few years there have been great discoveries regarding the role of scent or pheromones, in sexual or physical attraction. We are only just beginning to learn how important they are. They recorded a difference in preferences, but the preferences tested were limited to genetic potential. They can't be sure how this factor extends to other elements of a relationship.

POPSRoyal Marine sentenced to 7 years for theft Not a bright spark - fancy getting caught. Of all the statements on this case the most astounding is the official assertion that the SA80 is a weapon of worth. Just recently it has been reported for it's 240th modification. If whomever now is in possession of the useless piece of weaponry, here is a suggestion. Take it back to whomever sold it to you and demand a refund. It cannot be sold as it does not meet any criteria of the Sales of Goods Act as it is unfit for purpose. I await with unbaited breath when the procurer's of this piece of rubbish will be prosecuted for fraud. But we all know that will never happen. Just like MP sending in true expense accounts?

POPSWhere size makes a difference :) "To further confirm their model the researchers calculated the daily bone marrow production of HSC in several mammals to find that the number of cells found by them were compatible with those obtained by directly working in animals, with the number of cells produced by a mouse during its lifetime (around 2 years) similar to the ones produced by humans in one day, and cats in a week. POPSMe, Myself and I The generally accepted linguistic explanation for the capital “I” is that it could not stand alone, uncapitalized, as a single letter, which allows for the possibility that early manuscripts and typography played a major role in shaping the national character of English-speaking countries. So what effect has capitalizing “I” but not “you” — or any other pronoun — had on English speakers? It’s impossible to know, but perhaps our individualistic, workaholic society would be more rooted in community and quality and less focused on money and success if we each thought of ourselves as a small “i” with a sweet little dot. There have, of course, been plenty of rich and dominant cultures throughout history that have gotten by just fine without capitalizing the first-person pronoun or ever writing it down at all. There have also been cultures that committed atrocities even while capitalizing “you.”

Suyasa, two other members the royal family, and 68 commoners were cremated in a large Hindu ceremony - their bodies having been previously preserved, awaiting cremation, which is traditionally believed to free their souls for future reincarnation.

POPSLord Nelson and Captain Cook Logs Have Cast New Light on Climate Change Scientists have uncovered a treasure trove of meteorological information contained in the detailed logs kept by those on board the vessels that established Britain's great seafaring traditition including those on Nelsons' Victory and Cook's Endeavour. Many scientists believe that storms are caused by global warming, but these were during the so-called Little Ice Age that affected Europe from about 1600 to 1850. The records also suggest that Europe saw a spell of rapid warming, similar to that experienced today, during the 1730s that must have been caused naturally. "British archives contain more than 100,000 Royal Navy logbooks from around 1670 to 1850 alone," Mr Wheeler said. "They are a stunning resource".
