Top U.S. Scientist Arrested in FBI Sting Attempting to Sell Nuclear Secrets to Israel

by foxyarse  10-20-2009
The conduct alleged in this complaint is serious and should serve as a warning to anyone who would consider compromising our nation’s secrets for profit,” said David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security. … “From 1989 through 2006, Nozette held security clearances as high as top secret and had regular, frequent access to classified information and documents related to the US national defense,” the Justice Department said. … “In addition, Nozette allegedly offered to reveal additional classified information that directly concerned nuclear weaponry, military spacecraft or satellites, and other major weapons systems,” DOJ said. In addition to allegations against a network of moles said to be based at U.S. nuclear weapons facilities, Edmonds has also fingered current and former members of Congress, such as Dennis Hastert (R-IL), Dan Burton (R-IN), Roy Blunt (R-MO),Stephen Solarz (D-NY) and Tom Lantos (D-CA, deceased), as well as high-ranking Pentagon and State Dept.

"Apparent suicide" by hanging, yet neighbors and friends are surprised. Was about to receive $850,000 bonus....for mismanaging the bank into a crisis, along with the country. Pardon me for being skeptical about the "apparent suicide" and "no evidence of foul play" when his friends are surprised and the political stakes so high behind this. Open Secrets has published the recipients of contributions from Freddie Mac here , which includes these at the top : Dodd, Christopher J Obama, Barack Kerry, John S Bennett, Robert F Bachus, Spencer Blunt, Roy Kanjorski, Paul E Bond, Christopher S 'Kit' Shelby, Richard C Reed, Jack Reid, Harry S Clinton, Hillary Davis, Tom H Boehner, John Conrad, Kent Reynolds, Tom Johnson, Tim Pelosi, Nancy Carper, Tom Pryce, Deborah Emanuel, Rahm Dead 4/22

Bailout Vote Fails In the House
merrie
by merrie  9-29-2008
Yes, Clinton's surpluses gave way to Bush deficits (due largely, it's worth noting, to the 2001 recession that was in place when Clinton left office). And yes, the Bush administration (and a complacent GOP Congressional majority) presided over a lamentable and inexcusable bloating of the federal government. But the idea that this was a significant contributing factor to the mortgage/credit crisis strains the limits of creative causality. Even so, Pelosi's partisan rant - ill-timed, illogical, and irrelevant as it was - doesn't seem like a particularly good reason for intended Yeas to tank the bill. Update: A full transcript of Pelosi's speech (which was significantly longer than the clip in the video) is available in the extended entry.

Pelosi's Shameful Record of Voting Against Military
merrie
by merrie  8-27-2008    5
Despite the calls for improved military absentee voting procedures by the people affected most, not a single Democrat crossed the aisle to co-sponsor a bill introduced by Rep. Roy Blunt that would have created a clearer path to having absentee military ballots counted in the 2008 election and beyond. Democrats, led by Speaker Pelosi, ultimately killed efforts to improve GI suffrage instead of working to extend the most basic democratic right to the men and women serving our country overseas. America is not fooled by Pelosi's empty words. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Charles Henry wrote in the July issue of the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings: 'While virtually everyone involved...seems to agree that military people deserve at least equal opportunity when it comes to having their votes counted, indications are that in November 2008, many thousands of service members who try to vote will do so in vain.' Pelosi Is Losing! Join House Republicans and Sign the Letter

An Open Letter to Speaker Pelosi We think it is unconscionable that Congress has gone on vacation before we have addressed the high gas prices that are crippling our economy and hurting millions of families. We are asking that you reconvene the House from your five-week vacation and schedule a vote on legislation to increase American energy production. Let us be clear, we are not asking for a guaranteed outcome, just the chance to vote. http://www.nrcc.org/actioncenter/default.asp?ID=317#sign

"Texas Tea Party" Held Over Through Friday

by merrie  8-5-2008    1
From Amanda Carpenter at Townhall: I can tell you, this is going to be a full-week assault. A GOP aide showed me a week-long schedule of GOP floor speaking dates on energy while the rest of Congress is on their 5-week taxpayer paid vacation. I'll try to share that schedule with you later. If your congressman isn't on it, you should give their office call! Update: The #dontGo feed on Twitter has become de facto Update Central, but your options for following along (despite the lack of audio or video recording equipment) continues to grow, including: * Live blog at minority leader John Boehner's site * The Facebook * The YouTube Channel Update: Oil just dipped below $120 per barrel for the first time in 3 months Update: During the occasional press conferences, Minority whip Roy Blunt has just made it pretty clear that the fun will continue at least throughout the week.

House Republicans Gas "Talkathon" To Continue Monday
merrie
by merrie  8-4-2008    1
"But the American people are suffering,” Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.” Update - Neither Boehner nor Blunt are expected to be in attendance at Monday's talkfest, and its unclear if they will show up at any point during the week. The session will not be televised, but Republicans felt they got a lot of good press out of Friday's "revolt," so they will be back at it again, and younger GOP lawmakers were clearly energized by the tactic, something not evident among Republicans for most of the 110th Congress. hotair at following link: http://hotair.com/archives/2008/08/03/its-on-house-republicans-oil-protest-to-resume-tomorrow/

GOP Fights For Expedited Delivery Of Ballots To Military
merrie
by merrie  7-28-2008    6
In 2000 military ballots were targeted for challenge in the famous Florida recount , and only 48% of the overseas members of the military who requested absentee ballots for the 2006 election had their ballots counted, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Conservatives believe that members of Congress should fight as hard for the right of our military to vote as our military has fought to allow Iraq to have a constitutional democracy. Sens. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), along with Reps. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) are engaging in legislative combat for the rights of our military to vote in the 2008 election.

The Impending Clash Over "Earmarks"
merrie
by merrie  1-22-2008
A band of Republican lawmakers led by Representative Jeff Flake of Arizona and Senators Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Jim DeMint of South Carolina has attacked earmarks, saying they waste money and corrupt the legislative process. But a larger number of lawmakers avidly seek them and boast of success in securing money for constituents. Republicans received about 40 percent of the earmarks in the spending bills for 2008. A new tally by the White House Office of Management and Budget shows that the 2008 spending bills signed by Mr. Bush include more than 11,700 earmarks, totaling $16.9 billion. By the White House count, the number was down 1,754 from 2005, and the amount of money was down $2.1 billion, or 11 percent. Mr. Bush recently mocked earmarks for a prison museum in Kansas and a sailing school in California.

On The Difference Between Belief and Politics
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  1-22-2008    4
If someone holds conservative, right wing beliefs, I've got not problem with them. I might even find myself agreeing with them sometimes. On the other hand, right wing politics are what really get under my skin. And when it comes to Bush, it's pretty much 100% pure politics. So what's the difference? Well beliefs are ideas - principles you think are right, and that you are willing to stand up for. Politics is using other people's beliefs to get what you want. Bush doesn't believe in being a "fiscal conservative!" He just talks about that so that right wing voters will support him. He wants to be fiscally conservative on public schools and health care and other areas that don't directly benefit him or his friends, but when it comes to something he wants, belief takes a back seat to unadulterated greed. Why do conservatives feel they have to defend him? Why deny reality to defend something that is against your values? Bush has dragged the entire GOP into deluded solipsism

WE MUST STOP THIS INSANITY!
merrie
by merrie  11-17-2007    1
Thankfully -- and not a moment too soon -- the bill brought forth by Rep. King introduces a much-needed measure of common sense to the current debate, and he already has 156 co-sponsors. As House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) said earlier this week, "These lawmakers understand, as do the vast majority of Americans, that allowing illegal aliens to sign up for valid, legal ID is bad transportation policy, worse immigration policy, and an unconscionable national security policy. And though it may take another week or two for Sen. Clinton and Gov. Spitzer to arrive at that conclusion themselves, the American people knew it the minute it was offered -- and have since joined the rest of us in looking on in sheer bewilderment."

America's Armageddonites Push for More War
Rasmus
by Rasmus  11-3-2007    2
Continuation: These end-timers have great influence over the U.S. government's foreign policy. They are thick with the Republican leadership. At a recent conference in Washington, congressional leader Roy Blunt, for example, has said that their work is "part of God's plan." At the same meeting, where speakers promoted attacking Iran, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay glorified "end times." Indeed the Bush administration often consults with them on Mideast policies. The organizer of the conference, Rev. John Hagee, is often welcomed at the White House, although his ratings are among the lowest on integrity and transparency by Ministry Watch, which rates religious broadcasters. He raises millions of dollars from his campaign supporting Israeli settlements on the West Bank, including much for himself.
