POPSDurbin Supports Burris Ethics Probe (Burris was 60th vote for Stimulus Bill)
The Illinois Democrat says he wants to be fair and review all of the documents, transcripts and statements involved. Tom Elia questions the timing: Now that it looks almost certain that Illinois Sen. Roland Burris lied under oath about his contacts with impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (and had that perjury covered up by another Chicago Dem for over one week while the vote occurred), one has to wonder why President Obama reversed his position, and put out the word for the US Senate to approve Burris under the dubious Blagojevich-related circumstances. Well, besides the embarrassing circumstances of his former Senate seat being up for sale to highest bidder being in the news, there is the matter of the passage of Obama’s stimulus package in the Senate. Sen. Burris was the 60th vote on the stimulus bill with Sen. Kennedy ailing and not able to vote himself. I wonder if anyone in the press will follow up on this?

POPSUpdate: Brooklyn DA “taking a look” into Brooklyn’s ACORN office. Update: Child-Whoring Pimp Assistance 7 identified; Dick Durbin (D-IL) Roland Burris (D-IL) Robert Casey (D-PA) Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) Patrick Leahy (D-VT) Bernie Sanders (I-VT) Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) The big question will be whether the House follows suit. Nancy Pelosi may not be inclined to let an amendment come to the floor, but James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles may not be done yet, either. A few more of these videos and even Pelosi will have little choice but to slam the door on ACORN. The big test will be whether the Johanns amendment survives a conference committee. This isn’t over yet. Update (AP): Man, this house of cards is toppling fast: Meanwhile, Jerry Schmetterer, director of public information for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, told FOXNews.com that officials will be “taking a look” into Brooklyn’s ACORN office. “We are going to be taking a look at the situation,” Schmetterer said Monday.

POPSThere is A Blizzard in Hell Tonight! Dems Vote To Ban ACORN Funds!
Gregg did not surprise me. Hutchinson thinks she can be governor of Texas with missing such a big vote? Old unreliable McCain is sitting this vote out too. Michelle Malkin details McCain’s ACORN coziness Vitter is in LA and that is ACORN country so no surprise here either. I lope Louisiana doesn’t lift a finger to send Vitter back to the Senate! From Michelle Malkin's blog: 5:42pm Eastern. Roll call vote still underway. Several Democrats have voted AYE, including Cardin, Carper, Inouye, Johnson (SD), Murray, Tester, Warner, Bingaman, Begich, Nelson (NE), Webb, Landrieu, Bayh, Conrad, Rockefeller, Dodd, Pryor, Hagan, Kohl, Feingold, Boxer, Nelson (FL), Brown, Harkin, Lincoln, Wyden, Baucus, Klobuchar, Kaufman, Shaheen, Lautenberg (switched from no to yes), Menendez, Stabenow, Leiberman, Levin, McCaskill, Reid, Feinstein, Udall, Bennet (CO) Merkley, Cantwell, Dorgan, Schumer… I am shocked by some of the hardcore lefties here.

POPSDemocrat Corruption On A Roll Scandals involving the Obama Administration include prominent cabinet picks, some confirmed and others who withdrew amid intense public scrutiny of their wrongdoings. Former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle dropped his bid to be Health Secretary after being exposed for failing to pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes over the years and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson dropped out as Commerce Secretary amid a grand jury investigation into his out-of-state political donors getting a lucrative state contract. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was confirmed even though he knowingly hired an illegal immigrant and failed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes on his lucrative salary. The nation’s new Deputy Defense Secretary (William Lynn) was a major defense industry lobbyist before becoming the Pentagon’s second-in-command, a violation of Obama’s “strict ethics rules” banning lobbyists from his administration.

POPSOOOOH! I Forgetted God only knows that there's absolutely no way to correct this situation - well, maybe some kind of election where the will of the people comes into play - but that might go against the Democrats so its not allowed.

POPSRepublicans Demand That Burris Resign From Senate We know that Obama rebuffed Blago’s attempts to get some quid pro quo, but by denying Blago the Obama people admit that they knew Blago was trying to sell the Senate seat. There has been nothing released to date to indicate that Obama and/or his people contacted federal authorities to report Blago’s illegal and unethical behavior, so is the Obama administration not just as guilty as Burris in essnetially being complicit in Blago’s crimes? Of course, but don’t expect Obama to take some responsibility. Or even be taken to task by the fawning press corps that follows him about.

POPSNow Can We Have Our Senate Election prior to Dec. 26, when he met with a Blagojevich attorney. In his new affidavit, he said he actually had spoken with three of the former governor’s close associates. Here’s another question for Reid, second-in-command Sen. Dick Durbin and other Democratic big shots: Are you going to sit there and take this? Will you expel Burris for darkening your door? Will you investigate it, or slip it under the rug? Just how wrong was the story that Burris told these guys? During Burris’ Jan. 8 testimony before the Illinois House impeachment committee, Burris admitted that he had expressed an interest in the Senate seat to Blagojevich’s former chief of staff Lon Monk. Asked pointedly at the hearing if he had met with Blagojevich’s brother, Robert, about the seat, Burris denied it. Now comes Burris with the admission that, oh yeah, Robert Blagojevich had phoned him three times, as early as October before Barack Obama was even elected president, about fund-raising.

POPSSenate Democrats endorse Burris It's amazing how fast we went from 'we won't seat him' to 'he's endorsed', from the same set of lips. He swears he offered nothing in return for the seat... hopefully that's not the case and he'll actually return something decent for the folks in Illinois. Obama must've gone to the Lincoln memorial to apologize to Abe for all of this.

POPSBurris Turned Away From Senate Chamber The problem, of course, is that the Illinois Secretary of State has refused to sign off on Burris's appointment. This actually brings up an interesting question; is it required? Some argue that the signature is just a formality and an "extra-constitutional requirement." On the other hand, constitutionally speaking, the handling of elections is left up to the states. You could argue that this puts Illinois law above the Constitution in this case. But, to grow a third hand, Burris wasn't elected -- does this create a loophole? We live in interesting times.

POPSBurris is turned away from chamber I don't know how I feel about this. As long as Blago is still governor, he can appoint anyone he chooses but since the crime he's charged with is *selling* the Senate seat, this seems completely unethical. But to see Burris bulldozing his way into the Senate seems tacky and very undignified. Surely there is a better way to successfully receive the Senate seat than this one.

POPSBurris Contacts Reid This is no surprise and really exactly what you'd expect from Team Burris. The only real news here is in the Certificate of Appointment (page 4 of the PDF ), which is signed by Governor Blagojevich, but not by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White. White has refused to sign off on the appointment, which may give Reid some legal leverage when it comes to rejecting Burris.

POPSLive By The Race Card, Die By The Race Card but played the race card in the process: Taking to the podium at the end of a bizarre, shambolic press conference in which Governor Rod Blagojevich sought to appoint Roland Burris to the US Senate, Congressman Bobby Rush dared white Democratic senators to block a black man from joining their ranks. ...As he left the room, Blagojevich echoed Rush, saying: "Feel free to castigate the appointer but don't lynch the appointee." So now, Reid will have to either accept the legal nomination of Burris or fight a battle to keep Burris out--a nice racial skirmish that Dems have been loathe to nut up on before. Blago looked around and saw that he was quickly shunned by the party establishment so he decided to telling them to screw themselves and go about his duties. Blago is the best thing to happen to conservative commentators since the primaries.

POPSToday’s Edition Of Senate Gone Wild: Armed Guards To Keep Burris Out
I’m just an enterprising little blogger trying to make her way right here in Amerika! I don’t want to work in the potato fields! I NEED this material. So I IMPLORE you, Roland. Show up! Then we could do a nice analogy with what Saddam Hussein always did with people he didn’t want in the room. Come on guys! I need to catch a break here, mmmmmmmkay? I want to see the veins in Harry Reid’s neck pulsating. I want to see Blagojevich’s hair again. I want to hear Bobby Rush’s next speech after the only African American man in the room gets hauled out by the Democratic Party. “We’re not going to create a scene in Washington,” Burris said. “We hope it’s negotiated out prior to my going to Washington.” No no no! Prithee Roland, I beseech thee! Playing nice is not a part the congressional handbook, man! And it never provides good blogging material! Hey, by the way, did anybody notice that the Other Useless Party is awfully quiet these days?

POPSBlago Appointee Burris Once Pushed to Execute Innocent Man This is pretty ugly. The piece goes on: "Anybody who understood this case wouldn’t have voted for Burris," Rob Warden, executive director of the Center on Wrongful Convictions, told ProPublica. Indeed, Burris lost that race, and two other attempts to become governor. Burris’ role in the Cruz case was "indefensible and in defiance of common sense and common decency," Warden said. "There was obvious evidence that was innocent." Putting ambition over justice. I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

POPSBlago to Announce Obama Replacement Appt. Burris, 71, may find he has no cause to celebrate. The Chicago Tribune reports: The action comes despite warnings by Democratic Senate leaders that they would not seat anyone appointed by the disgraced governor who faces criminal charges of trying to sell the post, sources familiar with the decision said. So Gov. Blagojevich's announcement won't be nearly as important as Harry Reid's reaction to it.
