POPSBartiromo v. Burnett (I suspect like most men who have CNBC on in the background of the office most of the day) I spend a good portion of the day pondering the Maria Bartiromo v. Erin Burnett question. I think I come down in the Bartiromo fan club. I just think Bartiromo knows her stuff better. I can't point to anything specific. But every now and then you're watching Erin and Jim Cramer, and Cramer goes off on one of his rants, and then Erin asks some odd question that doesn't have much to do with the rant. Maybe she's just trying to bring him back under control, but sometimes I think she doesn't really know what he's talking about.

POPSOn A Pint Sized Stage Later, Seán's brother Gerry, who runs the pub, tells me an old Paddy Coyne's story. Long ago, there was apparently a "sign rivalry" between Mannion's in Clifden, Hamilton's in Leenane, and Paddy Coyne's in Tullycross, all of which were not only pubs but general merchants and undertakers. Mannion's traded under the slogan "For All Your Needs, from Maternity to Eternity". So, Hamilton's went one better: "For All Your Needs, from Womb to Tomb". Paddy Coyne and Sons thought hard, and eventually settled on their own slogan. "Paddy Coyne's - For All You Wish For, from Erection to Resurrection." Perhaps it's no surprise, then, that there's storytelling going on here.

POPSVanity Fair Cover Satirizes John McCain "We had our own presidential campaign cover in the works, which explored a different facet of the Politics of Fear, but we shelved it when The New Yorker's became the "It Girl" of the blogosphere," Vanity Fair writes. "Now, however, in a selfless act of solidarity with our downstairs neighbors here at the Condé Nast building, we'd like to share it with you. Confidentially, of course."

POPSThree Orphaned Lion Cubs Being Bottle-Fed By Zookeepers
White lions are regarded as a rarity in the wild. In captivity, however, it seems a different story. In fact three white cubs were born to another lioness at the zoo in Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock, south-west of Hamburg, at exactly the same time. She however, was happy to raise her litter herself. Fortunately these two-week-old white lion cubs are in good hands with the zoo keepers adopting the maternal role. In captivity, both male and female lions, who are unusually social compared to other cats, can live for over 20 years. The German public has a soft spot for orphaned animals. Knut, the first polar bear born in Berlin Zoo for 30 years, became a national celebrity after his mother rejected him. Life, however, hasn't been easy for the bear who attracts at least 200 visitors a day. He is said to have become addicted to human attention. 'Knut is a problem bear who has become addicted to human beings,' German animal rights activist Frank Albrecht said.

POPSIGNORANCE RULES! I am so tired of hearing how the ignorant population rule. The real question should be... Why are so many Americans unknowledgeable? In today's world, that is beyond a disgrace, especially in a rich country. Leave no child behind, MY FOOT! Hillary has lost so much respect, because of her winning at all cost, strategy. She is playing with those who possess little ability to decipher the information hurled in all directions, so afraid their fragile reality will topple if truth is exposed to them. Playing with them the same way big balls mcgraw, Karl Rove did and still does. She's even (sort of) flirted with the likes of Rove! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTGbI8pzvqk  Are we, once again, going to have a president elected by the unenlightened and unread? Those in the Hillary political category are banking on it. But I, for pity's sake, sure as hell, HOPE NOT!. No joke, we can't afford it to happen again, our very existence depends on it!! :-?

POPSSydney's stressed brains are shrinking There was another conclusion suggested for the reason those subjects from Melbourne had more 'grey matter' than those from Sydney, which was that the brains of Sydneysiders had eliminated unnecessary neural pathways, connections and links, so making their brains more efficient. There was also the possibility considered that another reason for the differences, is that Sydney brains were too mature to spend too much time thinking about sport. They didn't need as large an amount of gray matter to remember football scores.

POPSPriests come to blows in the Church of the Nativity CNN reports that priests from rival Christian sects have broken out in violence over who gets to clean the Church of the Nativity. Yes, two days after the celebration of the birth of the Holy Infant so tender and mild, in the church that is built over the site of His holy birth, dedicated men of God were beating each other bloody over who gets to clean out the manger. The rivalry is so intense that Palestinian troops had to form a human shield to separate the three groups of priests who traditionally clean the church: Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic. What the hell. Link photo by Darko Tepert Donatus

POPSThis Ought To Be Good! For the first time, the Popularly Elected President and the Democratically Elected President (in 2000) will meet... Will sparks fly? I call for a greased-pig contest to settle it all.

POPS Gas Station Rivalry Ends In Killing The discussion quickly escalated into a fight with two more people from the BP station brawling with rivals at Marathon. One man was hit with a baseball bat in the melee. And then, police say, the 51-year-old owner of the Marathon station pulled out a gun and shot the owner of the BP, a 45-year-old father of five children. While police are still swarming the Marathon station, the BP has jacked up its prices. WXYZ's Bill Proctor reports that as soon as the owner's body was taken away, workers at BP changed the price-per-gallon of unleaded from $2.96 to $3.09.

POPSAdam Broitman on "Facebook Gets Googley/ Google Starts to Feed" Social Media maven, Adam Broitman serves up a great post on the developing relationship between Facebook and Google. Is there love in the air or are these two Internet darlings headed for bitter divorce? Broitman says, "My feeling is that we will begin to see a lot more rivalry between these two companies."
