POPSParalysed Palestinian girl fights for Life "Maria cannot have her mother, brother or grandmother back, she cannot have her body, but there are things we can do to make things better and this is to take care of her for all of her life because she cannot survive outside Israel," Adi Lustigman, her lawyer said. "She needs to live near the hospital, she must be near the emergency room -- things she cannot have in the West Bank" Upset at what he described as foot dragging, Maria's father said he believed the court did not want to set a precedent that would encourage other Palestinians hurt in Israeli attacks to seek long-term medical treatment in Israel. The Defence Ministry maintains that Israeli law does not require the army to compensate Palestinians injured in fighting against militants in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

POPSA Little Welcome Home from the Torture Masters "As they ridiculed me, they took delight most in mocking letters I had received from readers in England. I had now been without food and water and the toilet for 12 hours, and having been made to stand, my legs buckled. I vomited and passed out. All I remember is one of them gouging, scraping and clawing with his nails at the tender flesh beneath my eyes. He scooped my head and dug his fingers in near the auditory nerves between my head and eardrum . The pain became sharper as he dug in two fingers at a time. Another man had his combat boot on my neck, pressing into the hard floor. I lay there for over an hour. The room became a menagerie of pain, sound and terror."

POPSUSA: Drowning in Pretend Patriotism? Any doubts as to this later governing impulse of our imperial ambitions were shattered with the recent news that U.S. advisers to our puppet government in the Green Zone of occupied Iraq have worked out agreements for American oil companies to gain control of Iraqi oil fields. But, then again, what did we expect when we elected a Texas oil hustler, and a failed one at that , to be our president? ... AlterNet

POPSCourage of the flip-flop: Has McCain got it? Like when it was demonstrated to him that his religious companions were bigots that advocated murder. Was it cowardice or courage or the pope and the Catholics that made him have such a radical change of mind and dump his fundamentalist 'friends'? Apparently they have dumped him back. Hagee has put out a statement saying that he withdraws his endorsement from McCain because he has “become a distraction in what should be a national debate about important issues.” It takes one type of courage to drop bombs from the sky. Another altogether to order men into battle. A far greater courage to bring home the troops. Which courage does McCain have? Bush landed on a carrier. He wore the uniform. Did he demonstrate any courage?

POPSFor WHAT? One Man! And the Next WAR? And all for the lack of one assassins bullet. Where is Mossad when it's needed? "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" If he was such a bad man could no one be found to "judicially assassinate" this 'turbulent' ruler? Keeping the rules has NOT been the hallmark of this administration, so why not 'eliminate' Saddam? The truth is that he was never the target. Assassination would not have produced occupation. It would have save 4,000+ US lives but we have learnt that these didn't matter either. The out of sight, out of mind, no presidential presence at funerals worked for AWOL Bush. However the broken in mind and body will not go away so easily. Until they are swamped by the next lot.
