bhgfarms
by bhgfarms  12-21-2009
Do you know what this is? You might want to look at it..if you can find information...I went to Walmart today and noticed a sign..now it may have been there a while..I don't know..but it was today that I noticed it..it said Walmart proudly uses Electronic Product Code! The potential for this to be used for evil is evident.

Worlds Smallest RFID Tag
Cielerella
by Cielerella  3-8-2007
These tiny RFID tags could be worked into any product; combined with RFID readers built into doorways, theft of consumer goods would be practically impossible. It's not clear from the references provided, but even if this chip needs an external antenna, the attached antenna would be a tiny ribbon of wire more narrow than a human hair and only a fraction of an inch long. These devices could also be used to identify and track people. For example, suppose you participated in some sort of protest or other organized activity. If police agencies sprinkled these tags around, every individual could be tracked and later identified at leisure, with powerful enough tag scanners. Remember in the Mission Impossible movie when the female operative put a tracking tag on the shoulder of a computer programmer? The prop they used in the movie was MUCH bigger than this baby.

The Wal*Mart "Category" Killer Article.
ejoiner2
by ejoiner2  2-22-2007
This is an old 2003 article, but I think its worth reading again. This talks about selling too much to one customer...and making a deal with the devil in doing so. This doesnt just apply to Walmart and i think since 2003 Walmart has realized it has the power to kill its vendors. (which helps nobody.) Certainly it did not motivate vendors to help WM with their RFID initiative.

As the overblown market projects for RFID demand fail to materialize, acquaistions abound. Samsys runs out money and is purchased out of receivership by Sirit. ID Veloicity of Greensboro is acquire by NCR, who was brand-lableeling their software solution.

Beyond Bar Codes: Track anything
kmcolo
by kmcolo  2-10-2006
This technology goes beyond barcodes in a very important way. Bar codes track product lines, not the products themselves. With bar codes a jar of mustard is indistinguishable from another jar of the same mustard. This will not be true of radio tagged products which could carry more information such as production date, distributor, where and when it was purchased, etc.
