POPSFinal word: Democrats are Worse Than Republicans It has been argued that the Democratic party is only about two degress left of the Republican party. Even is it is true, it is only true in a politically useless way. Their point of view on reproductive rights depends on if they are talking to religious bigots or progressives. Obama panders to the right-wing on health care for undocumented workers, who are, as usual, good enough to work for slave wages and pay into the system, but not good enough to receive benefits. On the issue of the war there could not be any clearer expression of the operational similarities between the Democrats and Republicans. This country is sorely in need of an independent, working class oriented, political movement that relentlessly attacks exploitation and oppression everywhere it rears its head. And the first step toward that is to lose all illusions in the Democratic Party, and stop providing any kind of left cover for them.

POPSOklahoma Abortion Law: Details To Be Publicly Posted Online This defense is questionable. Feminists For Choice argues, "In reviewing the actual text of the law, the first 8 questions that will be asked and reported could easily be used to identify any member of a smaller community." The Center For Reproductive Rights, former state Rep. Wanda Jo Stapleton (D-Okla.), and Okla. resident Lora Joyce David have filed a lawsuit to prevent this contentious abortion bill from going into effect, on the grounds that it violates the state's constitution.

POPSNew Oklahoma law will publicly post details of women's abortions online More: “They’re really just trying to frighten women out of having abortions ,” Keri Parks, director of external affairs at Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma, said. The Center for Reproductive Rights is challenging the law, arguing that “it violates the Oklahoma Constitution because it ‘ covers more than one subject ’ — a challenge that previously worked to strike down an abortion ultrasound law.” Too bad "because it's a gross violation of privacy and nobody's business but the woman's and her doctor's" doesn't seem to be one of the factors. NOTE: Comments claiming that abortion is murder or insulting women who have abortions or the doctors who perform them will be deleted . Take it somewhere else if you want to have that discussion.

POPSThe last abortion doctor NOTICE: Comment policy on this clip goes beyond my usual "keep it civil". Any comments insulting or vilifying doctors who perform abortions, women who get abortions, or people who support freedom of choice WILL BE DELETED. Any comments implying that it is reasonable to murder a doctor for performing a legal procedure WILL BE DELETED. You want to argue against abortion, take it somewhere else.

POPSCalifornians' changing attitudes on abortion, same-sex marriage More: Public opinion on same-sex marriage breaks dramatically along party lines: Democrats in 1977, for example, were opposed to same-sex marriage by a 2-to-1 ratio. Today, they support the issue 2 to 1. Independent voters were opposed to same-sex marriage in 1977 by a 5-to-3 ratio; today, they support it 5 to 3, the poll showed. That's in contrast to Republicans, who today are actually "more opposed than they were 30 years ago" to same-sex marriage, the poll found. In 1977, GOP voters stood against it 65 to 30 percent; today, they are against it 68 to 23 percent.

POPSThe gods of Liberalism Modern liberalism deviates little from its ancient predecessor. While its macabre rituals have been sanitized with flowery and euphemistic terms of art, its core tenets and practices remain eerily similar. The worship of “fertility” has been replaced with worship of “reproductive freedom” or “choice.” Child sacrifice via burnt offering has been updated, ever so slightly, to become child sacrifice by way of abortion. The ritualistic promotion, practice and celebration of both heterosexual and homosexual immorality and promiscuity have been carefully whitewashed – yet wholeheartedly embraced – by the cults of radical feminism, militant “gay rights” and “comprehensive sex education.” And, the pantheistic worship of “mother earth” has been substituted – in name only – for radical environmentalism.

POPSIn ICE Detention = No abortion rights even for those raped! For two months, while Maria awaited her detention hearing, Alvarado says they met about once every two weeks to talk about the ordeal. Maria asked about her options for ending the pregnancy. “I can’t do it,” Alvarado remembers her saying. “The baby’s face will just remind me of him—the man who did this.” But Maria ran into a practice limiting the reproductive rights of ICE detainees. For pregnant women in immigration detention facilities, it is virtually impossible to obtain an abortion. According to Bassett, in fact, “Preliminary records indicated that during fiscal year ’08 and ’09 to date, no detainee has had a pregnancy terminated while in ICE custody.” Not a single one.

POPSLoony Tune Award Winner: Oakland Pastor Arrested for holding sign Yes sirree bob, our society is in a tailspin. To think Oakland, CA feels that sign holding is a crime punishable by jail time and yet overlooks the crime of violence committed against underage girls in the name of REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS. A minor does not have to inform a parent when undergoing a life threatening procedure, and Oakland finds nothing immoral or criminal about that. Neither does the city find the wholesale slaughter of innocent life a criminal act, what they find offensive is a Pastor holding a sign offering an alternative solution to a life ending decision. Hmm I wonder if Oakland would arrest this same Pastor for holding up a sign offering hope to a potential suicide jumper? Oakland has sanctioned murder for hire and look the other way. A lonely black Pastor cares enough to want to help and he is arrested. This one certainly earns the Loony Tune award.

POPSRethinking science and religion "But at the same time, we have uncovered profound mysteries - dark matter and dark energy, for example, 95 percent (!) of the cosmic order but of unknown character - and these awaken a tangible sense of humility: We do not know it all. Today, religious people have cause to rejoice. The god of the gaps may be dead, but spiritual life is reinvigorated because God is no longer just the perfunctory explanation for mystery. God is the author of wonder." i think that behind science wonder exists, its parallel in religion is bewilderment.

POPSThe Straight Facts on Women in Poverty The best policy solutions to address women’s poverty must combine a range of decent employment opportunities with a network of social services that support healthy families, such as quality health care, child care, and housing support. Policy objectives must also recognize the multiple barriers to economic security women face based on their race, ethnicity, immigration status, sexuality, physical ability, and health status. These approaches must promote the equal social and economic status of all women by expanding their opportunities to balance work and family life.
