POPSSill Officials Force Mold Whistleblower to Resign Roeder's departure Friday, following his contact with USA Today, was purely coincidental, said Col. Sam White, an executive officer at Fort Sill. He said Roeder has a history of confrontations with base officials. "Purely coincidental." Guess the guy just had it coming, huh? "They can say whatever they want to say, but they're not being truthful," Roeder said. "I stand up for soldiers. I'm sure the word got out that I'd encouraged soldiers to speak." Roeder, a retired soldier, said he was told to resign or he would be fired. A long time ago, I would have erred on the side of the Army and its professional leadership. But not after the past half decade or so. Given its recent track record, I think the Army has to answer for this one: Why are we punishing people for trying to improve the lives of soldiers? I also think it's worth repeating what I wrote a few months ago about whistleblowers, the military, and the media:

POPSEastern Europe gets jittery over Russia "Slowly, the Iron Curtain is being rebuilt," said Jacek Palasinski, veteran foreign affairs commentator for the Polish television network TVN24. "Europe will be divided again -- the lines are different, pushed farther east, but the division is the same. And dangerous." Ukraine and Moldova are worried that they could be Russia's next targets. The Czech Republic, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of a Soviet invasion that crushed the Prague Spring reform movement, is fretting about history repeating itself. Many Eastern European nations, Poland chief among them, are eager to find safe haven, and have turned to Washington for guidance and reassurance and partnerships.

POPSStupidity is Repeating Same Actions Expecting Diff Results Cont: The problem is that this graph does not appear to be correct. Other data sources show Arctic ice having made a nice recovery this summer. NASA Marshall Space Flight Center data shows 2008 ice nearly identical to 2002, 2005 and 2006. Maps of Arctic ice extent are readily available from several sources, including the University of Illinois, which keeps a daily archive for the last 30 years. Ever notice that the same people who are constantly wrong about global warming are also the ones that push for socialism cause "it'll work this time, you'll see"

POPSAre We Living in a Giant Void? Their theory posits that if in fact Earth and our surrounding neighbors are in fact in an unusual or special region of space, ie, a void, then our perspective on the universe would be severely challenged

POPStale of two rugby players For those who have read this article before I make no apologies for repeating it. At a time when my friends are being liberated in Zimbabwe, the actions of Brown and that moron in America proved they are political non-entities in the extreme. Fancy announcing to the world that you have a universal agreement with the other powers for sanctions against Mugabe without first getting the ink on the document. Go to East Glasgow and get your inept party elected. No wonder my grandfather left if that is the standard of reason there exists in Jockland. Go to the article and read carefully. The honest and decent person has no rights in this world where colour has more sway that justice. One of my friend's family had been in Southern Africa for almost 500 years. He now lives in poverty in Portugal.

POPSOn Suing The Enemy “It bears repeating that our opinion does not address the content of the law that governs petitioners’ detention. That is a matter yet to be determined.” Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, who is nothing if not plain-spoken, was his usual clear and precise self on this occasion, “The game of bait-and-switch that today’s opinion plays upon the Nation’s Commander in Chief will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed.” And not just Americans, if Mr. Justice Scalia proves as prescient as he is plain. Already prisoners at Guantanamo who have had to be released have returned to attacking American troops and/or civilian targets, and had to be recaptured. Having again entered the maw of the American judicial system, who knows if they will ever face justice? That question, too, remains Yet To Be Determined.

POPSIsrael and Oil Prices--"Geopolitical" Factors Ignored Israel threatens Iran, oil sets new record high. See the pattern? It happens every time they threaten, or the US does. All these articles show on google search and are dated June 2008, now oil prices are up to $140 per barrel. Yet no one is talking about war-mongering as a factor in high oil prices, even though Iran is the 4th largest exporter in the world. As some would say...Duh! It is not a supply issue. Repeating for the upteenth time, high gas prices are due to: 1. speculative trading 2. dollar devaluation 3. geopolitical issues (war, rumors of war, US war policy, Israel) 4. government debt, increased money supply, war spending. These all tie together and started oil's price surge when the Iraq war began, and not before. War policy drives oil up on the trade floor.

POPSIntelligent Design and Evolution They are at it still, hell bend for dragging the science that permitted them to even evaluate into the toilet of eternal ignorance. Creationism and intelligent design are a strictly philosophical theory. Non-Science. Evolution may or may not be as complete in our journey of discovery, since many things are not found yet, but to pretend this is about intelligent design as a science would be going back, repeating history. Some of us are trying to move into the 21st century and beyond, not into the middle ages or 18th century. If they plan creationism and intelligent design as a serious science to be the centerpiece of USA's science, we will loose the competition with the rest of the world. Do they, the creationists, ever consider the consequences for real science, or are they just so in love with godliness, that they cannot be here for real? Be real, evolution has given you a chance to move forward, not back into the caves.

POPS Change "He Should Believe In" He would become a responsible voice within his party by challenging his constituents to embrace progress in Iraq. Using his considerable influence to rein in the reflexive and poisonous antiwar rhetoric that has become the Democratic party’s standard rallying cry against Republicans, he would seek to alleviate the bitter divisions that plague our country. Unfortunately, Sen. Obama has not been that kind of candidate. Instead, he has chosen the far easier path of exploiting the existing currents of public opinion for political gain. In his speeches, he downplays the gains achieved through the surge and dismisses as “spin” all evidence of progress, all the while repeating his call for a withdrawal of all U.S. combat troops within sixteen months of becoming president, no matter the conditions on the ground. Even worse, Sen. Obama’s rhetoric on the Iraq war is beginning to jeopardize his stated goal of repairing alliances that he claims are in tatters.

POPS'Bush Lied'? If Only it Were That Simple What I have objected to all along is that there was something sinister and self-promoting about the move into Iraq by this Administration. And not mentioned are the UN Resolutions which Iraq failed to comply. The world is repeating the process with Iran.

POPSCreativity From Scientific American. The first part about the Morning writings technique might be the same function as finding the Power of Now (as described by Tolle). I think that a good "to Do list" may accomplish some of the same thing. It allows you to let go of those thoughts until you want to address them. You don't have to keep repeating them to yourself to keep from forgetting.
