POPSElectronic Waste - A Call For Change It goes deeper into the way electronic gadgets are manufactured. People have noticed this for a long while but no one had/has done anything to change the real cause of this problem. No one questions why a perfectly good TV, stereo, printer etc has to get thrown away because a very minor part no longer functions and manufacturers make it more expensive to buy the replacement part that would fix it. So, it works out cheaper for people to throw it out and buy a new one. Everyone knows this, but why is this allowed to continue. Printers are soooo cheap, but the ink to refill is expensive. It is cheaper to use the printer once, throw it out and buy a new one compared to replacing the ink. The list goes on... Doesn't this have to change??? Isn't this the real culprit???

POPSCould dogs be the fastest land animals in the world? His ability to reach top speed quickly is amazing. At maximum acceleration a greyhound can reach a speed of 45 mph (72km/h) within its first 6 strides from a standing start. No other land animal (except the cheetah) has that degree of acceleration. However, the greyhound is also a distance runner. He can settle into a speed in excess of 35 miles per hour and can run at that rate for distances as great as 7 miles (11 kilometres). This means that while the cheetah can win the short sprint race, in any long race the greyhound will leave that big cat way behind, panting in the dust.

POPSFood of the Week: Spinich Yummy. Spinach, whether bunched or prepackaged, should be washed very well since the leaves and stems tend to collect sand and soil. Before washing, trim off the roots and separate the leaves. Place the spinach in a large bowl of tepid water and swish the leaves around with your hands as this will allow any dirt to become dislodged. Remove the leaves from the water, empty the bowl, refill with clean water and repeat this process until no dirt remains in the water (usually two to three times will do the trick). Cut away any overly thick stems to ensure for more even cooking

POPSHow to cold-brew Japanese green tea More: Place 1-2 T. of green tealeaves into a 4-8 oz. glass or ceramic teapot. Fill the pot with ice cubes made from filtered tap water or low-mineral-content spring water. Let sit until enough of the ice has melted to produce a couple of ounces of tea liquor. Infusion time will depend on air temperature. Pour off liquor into individual cups or glasses. For the second and third infusions, wait until more of the ice has melted, or fill the pot again with new ice cubes and cold water. Infuse for 15-20 minutes or longer, to taste. This technique yields delicious results with both sencha and gyokuro, as well as Chinese green teas.
