POPSCarbon Tax- UNCONSTITUTIONAL This new French carbon tax was scheduled to go into law on Jan1, 2010. The tax was steep: 17 euros per ton of carbon dioxide (USD $24.40). In a stunning move, and surely a blow to warmists everywhere, the tax has been found unconstitutional and thrown out. Originally found here (Google Translation).

POPSWhen Liberal Dreams Collide With Public Opinion
"What's really exceptional at this stage of Obama's presidency," writes Andrew Kohut, the Pew Research Center's respected pollster, "is the extent to which the public has moved in a conservative direction on a range of issues. These trends have emanated as much from the middle of the electorate as from the highly energized conservative right. From which we can draw two conclusions. One is that economic distress does not move Americans to support more government. Rasmussen reports that 66 percent of Americans favor smaller government with fewer services and only 22 percent favor more services and higher taxes. The second is that Barack Obama's persuasive powers are surprisingly weak. His advocacy seems to have moved Americans in the opposite of the intended direction. Obama first came to national attention in 2004 by promising to heal partisan, ideological and racial divisions. Like the other two Democratic presidents elected in the last 40 years .....

POPSU.S. Counting on Cows to Reduce Carbon Emissions Over 20 years ago, ALL Naysayers laughed and ridiculed the President, Ronald Reagan when he said cows were a major player in greenhouse gases...The Republicans didn't really back him up, because it did sound ridiculous....Good ole Reagan...

POPSReduce CO2: reduce population There was a time when people who measured the value of human life through sombre calculations based on cost-benefit analyses were regarded with suspicion and contempt. Throughout most of history human life has been valued in and of itself; it has been seen as possessing a special quality that could not be reduced to quantities to be measured by misanthropic accountants. Yes, the human body also has a physical dimension, and it can be reduced to its chemical constituents. But isn’t there also something very special about life?

POPSNaked Copenhagen If the issue is rising emissions in the next several decades, the bottom line is simple: The developed world is rapidly becoming irrelevant. Every 10% cut in the U.S. is negated by one year of China's growth. By 2040 China could be the most economically dominant nation on earth. The West might be able to cajole it, but won't be able to impose sanctions on China. Temperature will be at the mercy of the newly powerful economies. Moreover, an expensive effort to reduce Western emissions sets a worthless example. Only emissions cuts that provide measurable economic benefit to the developing nations will be adopted by them. If the 80% U.S. emissions cut winds up hurting the U.S. economy, it guarantees China will never follow our example. Cheap green energy is not going to be easy. Coal is dirt cheap, and China has been installing a new gigawatt coal plant each week"enough to supply five completely new cities the size of New York every year.

POPSMore Leaks – Copenhagen in Disarray ~ 12.8.2009
“circle of commitment” and have enraged delegates from developing countries. The US, UK, and Denmark are among the countries included in the so-called “Danish text.” The document also sets unequal limits on per capita carbon emissions for developed and developing countries in 2050; meaning that people in rich countries would be permitted to emit nearly twice as much under the proposals. The secret draft agreement worked on by a group of individuals known as “the circle of commitment” " understood to include the UK, US and Denmark - has only been shown to a handful of countries since it was finalised this week, The Guardian reports. The agreement, leaked to the paper, is a departure from the Kyoto protocol’s principle that rich nations, which have emitted the bulk of the CO2, should take on firm and binding commitments to reduce greenhouse gases, while poorer nations were not compelled to act. The draft hands effective control of climate change finance to .....

POPSClimate Change Talks-Is it really all about money? Too bad the climate change talks aren't about making a serious improvement on the environment. Instead it is all about money. Problem with wealthy nations contributing money to poor nations is that money is too easily embezzled or redirected into other "programs" i.e. defense.

POPSDominic Lawson: Roll up, roll up for the great Copenhagen emissions-fest And that's not counting the media flying in from everywhere. The very concept that politicians have the power to restrict climate change to 2C or 3C is as absurd as waving a magic wand. No wonder many people are skeptical about what they are doing. It doesn't change the sad facts of glacier melting, water poisoning, mass extinction, deforestation etc.etc. which are the direct consequences of industrial civilisation.

POPSIs Canada Criminally Negligent on Climate Policy? So the Canadian government is breaching its own Laws on two counts: 1) High Treason, 2) Criminal Negligence. POPSFor ????-The Frequent Flyer Miles????? Clearly, Climategate is a story no sensible person dare ignore. Moreover, it's growing, as links between and among data-faking scientists, the United Nations, and complicit government officials in many countries are exposed. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) yesterday called for an investigation by the Senate Environment and Public Affairs Committee. Climategate is gaining force, a tsunami of truth poised to strike

POPSBrazilian president says 'gringos' must pay to protect Amazon Lula must know that the "rich" nations can't pay because they are bankrupt, and would not pay, even if they could. The Chinese can and will pay for rainforest to be cut down to grow soy and meat to feed their own population whose agricultural potential is being decimated by climate change and industrialisation.

POPSNukes Will Save Us and Are Clean - the Tooth Fairy Is Real! Who or what would you trust to keep spent nuclear fuel safe from leaking or getting into the hands for more than 50,000 years, 50 years, even 5 years? We have tons and tons of it here in US and still do not have a 50 year, 100 year, 500 year or whatever year solution. Grin - how about your backyard?

POPSNew Solar Cycle Prediction It happened 150 years ago. Why is nobody preparing, simply as an insurance policy? The answer is that it would cost too much money in a time when money is particularly scace. Such an event would certainly reduce significantly green house gas emissions for quite some time.

POPS UN Signals Delay in Climate Change Treaty But he indicated that Copenhagen most likely won't produce a treaty, but instead will push governments as far as they can go on the content of an agreement. "The secretary-general believes that we must maintain the political momentum established by the 101 heads of state and government who attended the climate change summit and continue to aim for an ambitious, politically binding agreement in Copenhagen that would chart the way for future post-Copenhagen negotiations that lead to a legally binding global agreement," Pasztor said.

POPSWhere in the World is Global Warming a Priority? Sure, there would be a huge transfer of wealth from the developed nations to developing nations, but that’s not what Torethy Frank wants. She says, “There is too much corruption in the government and it goes in people’s pockets. Give the money directly to the people for businesses so we can support ourselves without having to rely on the government.” As David Kreutzer mentions in his Politico chat wrap, there much faster and much less expensive ways to adapt to climate change than trying to change the temperature by capping greenhouse gas emissions. Mosquito nets and attacking breeding grounds of mosquitoes and building levees to protect against potentially rising sea levels are all much cheaper but dramatically more effective than signing on to something that would prohibit these countries to develop.

POPSSurpised? Not Really. Considering the US is, among the general population, one of the least science savvy in the world, their ignorance over this important issue is expected.

POPSWhich Candles Emit Carcinogens? “An occasional paraffin candle and its emissions will not likely affect you,” Hamidi said in a news release from the American Chemical Society. “But lighting many paraffin candles every day for years or lighting them frequently in an unventilated bathroom around a tub, for example, may cause problems.” Hamidi also said that some people who believe they have an indoor allergy or respiratory irritation may actually be reacting to pollutants from burning candles. They noted that ventilation can help reduce the level of pollutants in closed rooms–but I say, better yet: switch to a healthier alternative!

POPSOrganic Waste Ethanol Cellulosic ethanol is an exciting technology which promises to convert the abundant sources of organic waste worldwide (kitchen waste, yard waste, paper industry waste, etc.) into green alternative fuel. Unlike traditional ethanol, it won't use food crops or raise food prices. In addition, environmental impact studies have indicated that while traditional ethanol releases more greenhouse gases than burning fossil fuels, cellulosic ethanol could reduce emissions
