POPSFor Veterans Day — Real Troop Support "According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, nearly 42 million American men and women have served during wartime. Nearly 1.2 million died while serving. Nearly 1.5 million were wounded. Since 9/11, more than 5,200 have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nearly 36,000 have been wounded — many have debilitating injuries that have changed their lives forever. We may debate the rightness or wrongness of various engagements, but we know that freedom comes at a steep price — and we honor those who have secured it for us."

POPSThe coat of arms of Switzerland is protected by American law? WTF? Perhaps someone with more legal background than I could lend their experience to me and answer WHY the Swiss coat of Arms is protected under US Law? And carries with its misuse the same Punishment. It just doesn't make any sense and either I'm tried and somehow keep missing it or its a pain to find. Just curious is all, I like mysteries but this is beginning to bug me after a few days or so (on & off) Over to you guys. (I Hope)

POPSObama Has Won The 100 Metres at The 2012 London Olympics
Thus, with President Wilson alone, the Nobel Peace Prize death toll is over 50 million and counting. Occasionally the peace prize has gone to actual peace negotiators but usually, per Teddy Roosevelt, when there was nothing left to negotiate. Carlos Saavedra Lamas got his in 1936 for mediating between Bolivia and Paraguay in the Chaco War (1932-35). Both nations were exhausted, 100,000 soldiers were dead, and the Chaco was--as it had been and remains--a vast, useless weed patch. Likewise, Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan (1976) and John Hume and David Trimble (1998)--the four of them were standing around when, after 500 years, the fool residents of my ancestral homeland ran out of ammo and beer. Of course, if you go around giving prizes left and right (mostly left) for more than a century, you're bound to give some to worthy people once in a while. With the Nobel committee this usually involves the Red Cross (1901, 1917, 1944, 1963). But the Red Cross doesn't bring peace . . .

POPS19 Female Palestinian Prisoners to be Released in Exchange for Sign of Life From Gilad Shalit
From there, they were handed over to the Red Cross at 11:30 am, where they awaited the green light from Israel's envoy to Shalit talks Hagai Hadas' authorization before being released via Bitunia Checkpoint near Ramallah and Erez crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel and the Bitunia Checkpoint near Ramallah. At around 1 pm, Hadas is slated to take the tape to the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem, to present it to Netanyahu. A copy of the tape will be delivered to the Shalit family by helicopter. POPSHow to Send Donations to Victims of Typhoon Ondoy Hurricane Katrina poured 250 millimeters of rain over New Orleans in 2005 with catastrophic results… but compare this to Typhoon Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana), which dumped a record 455 millimeters of rain in Quezon City over a 24-hour period. As a result, a large portion of the metropolis were flooded, with the waters reaching six meters in depth in some areas. Our kababayans desperately need your help. Every little bit counts.

POPSTyphoon Ketsana blasts Cambodia In the Philippines, the government said it now believed 246 people had died after the storm struck on Saturday, a figure that is expected to rise as mud is cleared from the worst affected areas. Almost two million people were affected by the flooding in Manila, the worst to hit the city in 40 years. At one point, 80% of the city was submerged. Ketsana, with winds of up to 100km/h (60mph), hit the Philippines early on Saturday, crossing the main northern Luzon island before heading out toward the South China Sea. Officials say more than 40cm (16in) of rain fell on Manila within 12 hours, exceeding the average for the whole month of September. Meanwhile forecasters said a new storm forming in the Pacific Ocean was likely to enter Philippine waters on Thursday and make landfall later on the northern island of Luzon.

POPSDirtbag Lashs Out at Legitimate Charities and Slimes Their Good Names When news was about to break that Pike helped hide the embezzlement of nearly $1 million by the brother of ACORN’s founder, the order was “keep your yaps shut.” That would have been good advice here, rather than lashing out at legitimate charities and dragging their good names into ACORN’s sordid story.

POPS 9.11 Remembered 9/11: Timeline of Terror Special Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at 10 p.m. ET http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,548605,00.html "We love you, Dad, and we miss you," said Philip Hayes Jr., whose father, long retired from the Fire Department, rushed to the site that 2001 morning and ultimately gave his life. President Barack Obama, observing his first Sept. 11 as president, had signed an order declaring it a day of service. He and first lady Michelle Obama marked a moment of silence on the South Lawn of the White House as a bugler played taps at 8:46 a.m., when the attacks began. Obama has distanced himself from many of the anti-terror policies of former President George W. Bush, but his remarks recalled Bush's speech to Congress in the immediate aftermath of the attacks: "We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail." Defense Secretary Robert Gates oversaw the ceremony held Friday at the Pentagon memorial.

POPSStar Factory Shows Off Three Kinds of Nebulae The Trifid’s third kind of nebula can be seen in the dark stripes that criss-cross the rest of the image. Called dark nebulae because of their light-obscuring properties, these clouds of gas and dust contain the remnants of previous star births. As higher pressure and temperatures build up inside the streaks of gas, nuclear fusion will lead to the formation of yet more stars

POPSwhy health care reform is a must "I repeated that I had not received the services and what if the hospital doesn't send a revised bill - will they still pay it. The reply was "yes, if it's a covered charge." "NO WONDER OUR PREMIUMS ARE SO HIGH!" ==== So instead of scrapping our current system in exchange for a nationalized one - let's just fix what we got - a whole lot cheaper and it wouldn't piss so many folks off.

POPSRed Cross Says: Guantanamo Prison Better
More good news and positive change from the USA Obama Administration. When I read a few years ago, during the growing nightmare of the Bush years, that the Red Cross was being hindered in access to Gitmo prisoners, I was disgusted. It was incredible --- impossible -- hard to believe that an American (U.S.) military and/or government would so deprive prisoners and snub international law....but that was an image of Americans fed by non-stop propaganda war movies...and certainly perhaps more true in World War 2, not now. Denying access to the Red Cross!? -- The military also hid some prisoners and some info when the Red Cross was around -- it was a disgrace, a loss of all honor (if there is any honor fighting a one-sided war started with deliberately fabricated lies) Good for Obama. It seems he's also on track to live up to the promise to have the prison closed by the start of next year. National health care plans now in the spotlight and he once again lead the fight for impro

POPSA Case Study in UN Hypocrisy only after the council president expanded the examination to include both sides. In contrast to the original mandate, Goldstone speaks only of "alleged" violations. In other words, he is trying to conduct a genuine inquiry despite having been appointed to a farcical one. It's a tricky feat. When the inquiry last week invited not only Palestinians to speak, but Israeli victims as well, Goldstone introduced something new to the UN. He deserves particular credit for inviting Noam Shalit, father of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, held incommunicado by Hamas since 2006, and denied access to the Red Cross. Yet whatever balance Goldstone may bring, the inherent problem with his mission is that it plays into the collective strategy of the council's repressive regimes, which is to cover up abuses in places such as Iran, China, Pakistan, Russia, Egypt and Zimbabwe -- all ignored this year -- and instead shine a permanent spotlight on Israel.

POPSU.S. frees 5 Iranian diplomats held since 2007 Two and a half years in prison without any charges being filed, without any evidence being presented, without any rights to a lawyer, no chance to defend yourself from accusations, all contact with family, friends, your own government or agencies like the Red Cross cut off No clearing of their name. This is classic injustice, another example of USA hypocrisy and cruelty, phony face and double-standards. Why all the concern on the media about Iranian election results and almost zero coverage about USA violations of its own principles? The answer, of course, is strong forces of neocon conservatives, warmongering Republicans and Zionist extremist are once against pushing for war against Iran.
