Skype Integration for Record Sage
RecordSage
by RecordSage  5-4-2007    1
For those of you who use Record Sage and have Skype - now you can easily call someone with a single click, regardless whether they have Skype or regular phone. Simply click on 'click to Skype' link next to the Skype Name field to call the person via Skype or click on 'click to SkypeOut' to call any phone number via SkypeOut (must have a SkypeOut balance to function correctly). You could've always used the Skype Directory feature to call anyone on your list, and you still can, but a lot of times it's simpler to just call someone as you're looking at their item record. This makes it super simple.

The Elements of Style - William Strunk, Jr.
Kore7
by Kore7  11-5-2006    5
The entire 1918 edition — online, searchable, and beautifully laid out. This impeccably-written English usage book is as much fun to read for its lively tone and witty examples as it is for its timeless advice. Strunk approached grammar not as a rigid rule set to be followed, but as a craft to be mastered and enjoyed. It's no accident that "Strunk & White" (as the reference is now known) is still read, essentially unchanged, in classrooms and newsrooms to this day. Omit needless words. Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts. This requires not that the writer make all his sentences short, or that he avoid all detail and treat his subjects only in outline, but that every word tell. ( The Elements of Style . III. 13.)

Vonage meets Record Sage
RecordSage
by RecordSage  8-26-2006    1
Got Vonage installed today... so far so good. Customer service seems to lack tremendously in the brains department, but otherwise definite upgrade from the old Verizon line. One of the cool features they have is ability to run a piece of software on a PC that allows to call any number from the PC. They claim to have integration with Outlook, but I use Thunderbird, so the only option they described was manual entry. Why would someone enter numbers to dial into a computer instead of the phone itself every time is beyond me. So, I thought that if they had a way to run the little program via the shell interface and allow to pass a parameter (phone) - maybe I could automate it somehow with... Record Sage. That's where the customer service was totally inept in answering a simple question. After reading some online forums it turns out that one can use this program by simply highlighting a number on the screen and pressing their hotkey to call it.

Record Sage now offers Personal Blogs
RecordSage
by RecordSage  7-28-2006    3
For those of you who use Record Sage (or need another reason to use it) - I'm happy to report the addition of Personal Blogs. Simply enter your blog headline as an Item and content as the Description. Optionally you can also provide a photo for the entry. Then simply select 'Personal Blog' from Reports (Special) and view it, read it, print it etc. Since there are plenty of blogging tools out there, I didn't see a reason to have one more just like them, but Record Sage fits well with the concept and having a totally private blog without public participation was something I haven't seen yet... so here it is.

Google Maps via Record Sage
RecordSage
by RecordSage  6-25-2006    1
For those of you using Record Sage - a new feature has been added to easily store and view Google maps. You can set up a Record called Maps or call it anything you like and just make sure to populate the Category and Location fields as well as put in the full address of the item into the Description field. That's it. Then just run the report (under Basic reports pane) called Maps and pick the Record of your choice to instantly view a list, sorted by Location and Category, of Items with clickable Address. Click on the Address and there's your map. I realize I mentioned that blogs are next, but I had a need for a map, then the laziness kicked in of pulling it up again in the future... and you have a shiny new feature. Personal blogs are coming... honest :)

Record Sage
RecordSage
by RecordSage  2-12-2006
Record Sage is based on the concept of lists. If you think about it, in your daily life there are a lot of lists to keep track of. Record Sage was designed to be secure and private. First, all of your interactions with Record Sage will be done on a secure server via SSL encryption. Second, you'll only be identified to the system via a number and password, no other information regarding you will be stored online. So, in an unlikely event of the database being compromised, even though the thief might see a list of items - he'd have absolutely no idea who these items belong to.
