Listening to a Liar by Thomas Sowell
merrie
by merrie  9-12-2009    1
If this is such an urgently needed program, why wait for years to put it into effect? And if the public is going to benefit from this, why not let them experience those benefits before the next Presidential election? If it is not urgent that the legislation goes into effect immediately, then why don't we have time to go through the normal process of holding Congressional hearings on the pros and cons, accompanied by public discussions of its innumerable provisions? What sense does it make to "hurry up and wait" on something that is literally a matter of life and death? If we do not believe that the President is stupid, then what do we believe? The only reasonable alternative seems to be that he wanted to get this massive government takeover of medical care passed into law before the public understood what was in it. Moreover, he wanted to get re-elected in 2012 before the public experienced what its actual consequences would be.

Schoolboy Jai Morcom beaten to death during recess
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  9-10-2009    5
"Jai was just a gentle little guy. He wasn't a fighter.'' Jai's older brother, Mayo, flew home on Friday night from the NSW ski-fields where he works, to join his devastated parents and sisters, Kyra, 26, and Jade, 22. A Year 9 student said the fight was between two school gangs. The student said: "One of the gangs stole a seat from our eating area. We stole it back and it turned into an all-out brawl (and) the teachers did nothing''. The student alleged Jai had been beaten to a pulp and ``it was really scary and intense. It was completely out of control''. A school nurse gave first aid until paramedics arrived, but witnesses said Jai was frothing at the mouth and non-responsive. Forensic detectives, NSW and Queensland police have been called in to investigate and are preparing a brief for the coroner.

August Wasn’t a Setback For Us At All, Says Gibbs
merrie
by merrie  9-10-2009    3
Why is the White House doing this? I think there are two answers that kind of relate to each other. First, it has begun to believe its own spin that the President is good at giving game changing speeches. But he isn’t really. Nobody is. If the game could change because of a speech, the game would constantly be changing because lots of people can give a decent speech, especially when they have a TelePrompTer… Second, it does not know what else to do. It looks like Congress is at something less than square one. There is no passable compromise that has been proposed - nothing that can win enough votes in the center without losing the left flank. But now the “Gang of Six” has basically broken up, public approval has tanked, moderates are scared, and if there isn’t bad blood on the Democratic side of the aisle there is at least a lot of finger pointing. If Humpty Dumpty breaks and you don’t know how to put him back together -

Obama Gives Up Already?
busmom
by busmom  8-17-2009
more at source... "..Officials from both political parties reached across the aisle in an effort to find compromises on proposals they left behind when they returned to their districts for an August recess. Obama had wanted the government to run a health insurance organization to help cover the nation's almost 50 million uninsured, but didn't include it as one of his core principles of reform..."All I'm saying is, though, that the public option, whether we have it or we don't have it, is not the entirety of health care reform," Obama said at a town hall meeting in Grand Junction, Colo. "This is just one sliver of it, one aspect of it." It's hardly the same rhetoric Obama employed during a constant, personal campaign for legislation."

The Chicago Way: Obama Reaches Not-So-Secret Deal to Not Push Down Pharmaceutical Prices Any Further;

by merrie  8-11-2009    2
With House Democrats moving to extract more than that just as the drug makers finalized their advertising plans, the industry lobbyists pressed the Obama administration for public reassurances that it had agreed to cap the industry’s additional costs at $80 billion. The White House, meanwhile, has struggled to mollify its most pivotal health industry ally without alienating Congressional Democrats who want to demand far more of the drug makers. White House officials could not immediately be reached for comment. Are you kidding me? Bonus: The Democrats' supporters are 100% real citizens expressing genuine grassroots fervor. For $11-16 per hour. Thanks to Nice Deb. Lefty Dwarf Robert Reich Slams Obama's Corrupt Deal with Big Pharma, Calling It a "Precarious Road" Away from Democracy: He's right. AARP is coming under criticism from its own members
dl211
by dl211  8-11-2009    1
AARP officials say the organization is used to being attacked, by both conservatives and liberals, and wears the bipartisan criticism as a badge of honor. "The AARP speaks out of both sides of their mouth and tells their constituents or their members one thing and do another," Barton said. Bipartisan hell, they're in the tank with Obama right alongside MSM. I never wanted to join this sham of an organization, my wife signed us both up for it. Now you can bet they will have to strike 2 from their membership role. The AARP is one of the most hypocritical organizations around, on one hand they con the elderly into believing they (AARP) actually give a damn about them while they side politically with the opposition. Every member should help AARP to eliminate the stress they are under - divest yourself from them, that would alleviate the headaches of conning folks into thinking they actually give a damn about them.

Pelosi Calls Health Care Critics 'Un-American'
dl211
by dl211  8-10-2009    3
"I, like most Americans, would find that kind of characterization of citizens exercising their First Amendment rights to be offensive," Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., told FOX News. "There's nothing more American than letting your elected representatives know how you feel about important issues facing the nation." House Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, released a statement calling the charge "outrageous and reprehensible." Pelosi and Hoyer made the accusation as part of a lengthy column in USA Today stressing the need for action on health care reform. The piece was published as lawmakers return to their districts for summer recess, a period that could imperil the legislation if health care critics cause moderate Democrats to lose their stomachs for sweeping reform.

These Democrats that are all going berserk about the Astroturfing, you know -- and Barack Obama, he perfected Astroturfing. A community organizer cannot start bitching when communities organize, and he's bitching. They just are so dumbfounded that people are actually standing up and doing this and actually community organizing on their own without Barack Obama doing it. They can't believe it.

Why Obama's Miscalculated Deceptions Will Backfire by Kevin McCullough
merrie
by merrie  8-10-2009    1
Since the beginning of the August recess the actual "rulers" in this nation have been given their chance to speak. In high school gyms, in church basements, and in community college auditoriums the first real chance for accountability has been measured against the most tone-deaf administration of my lifetime. The report card for the administration in these town halls is reflecting the concurrent plummet in Barack Obama's approval rating on his signature issue--the universal federalized take-over of the health care given to patients in America. Now only 36% of Americans trust the President on the issue, 53% do not. Every one on the President's team was taken by surprise at the response, primarily because of the biggest mistake an elected official can make. They believed their own press. The administration fell into believing what has been written, and honestly thinks their messianic fulfillment of bringing humanist utopia to the planet is a mandate.

President Obama, and his "INNER CIRCLE" have discarded this principle. Our membership: BLACK AMERICANS, HISPANIC AMERICANS, ASIAN AMERICANS, EUROPEAN AMERICANS, GAY AMERICANS, and, collectively, "AMERICAN AMERICANS," are members because we ALL share the same beliefs and support the same principles. We, also, are NOT afraid of your party's threats to "hit back" if the voicings of our concerns and demands burn their sensitive ears. WE DO NOT WANT "GOVERNMENT MANAGED HEALTH CARE" FORCED UPON US. WE DO NOT WANT "ILLEGAL RESIDENTS" LIVING WITHIN OUR NATION TO RECEIVE, OR BE ENTITLED TO, ANY RIGHTS OR PRIVILEGES WHICH OUR "LEGAL" CITIZENS HAVE "EARNED."

Bullies at Recess
darkeforce
by darkeforce  8-5-2009    1
Stay in contact with your congressmen and senators during August! Don't let the Insurance Lobby and their puppets, the Republican'ts bully the government into giving you less than the full, unamended Healthcare Reform bill that Americans deserve! If you aren't angry enough to do that, then just think about this — it's YOUR MONEY that the Insurance Industry is using to bribe/cajole congressmen and senators into keeping the current healthcare system; the one that will make all Americans bankrupt within 15 years, in place. They are spending your money in order to ensure that they'll still be able to charge you into bankruptcy. Still don't think the current Healthcare System needs to be stopped?
