POPSSaudi Royal Air Force carries strikes against Yemeni rebels
The same dynamic has played out in various forms in Lebanon, where Iran supports the Shiite militant Hezbollah and Saudi Arabia favors a U.S.-backed faction, and in Iraq, where Saudi Arabia and Iran have thrown support to conflicting sides in the Sunni-Shiite struggle. A top Saudi government adviser confirmed "a large scale" military operation underway on the Saudi-Yemeni border with further reinforcements sent to the rugged, mountainous area. "It is a sustained operation which aims to finish this problem on our border," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. He said Saudi troops were coordinating with Yemen's army, but Yemen's defense ministry denied the Saudis were inside the country. The northern rebels, known as Hawthis, have been battling Yemeni government forces the past few months in the latest flare-up of a sporadic five-year conflict. They claim their needs are ignored by a Yemeni government that is increasingly allied wit

POPSBlack SAS war hero who held off 250 rebels single-handed
With no cover and facing certain death, he sprinted across 800 metres of exposed ground to reach a 25-pound field-gun. It was a brave - but apparently futile manouevre - as the huge weapon took three men to operate. That, however, did not deter Labalaba. Nor did facial injuries which would have rendered a lesser man helpless. As British forces watched in astonishment, Labalaba turned the cumbersome gun on the enemy and opened fire at near point blank range. He went on for six hours, decimating the rebels and ultimately paying for his courage with his life. His comrades found him slumped face down by the massive gun. His selfless actions undoubtedly saved many of the British soldiers holed up inside the fort and won him a posthumous Mention in Despatches. For many, his statue will be a long-overdue memorial to one of the SAS's greatest heroes. It is also some small recompense to thousands of ethnic minority servicemen, many from Commonwealth countries, who feel their

POPSColumbian Protest Chavez This is another one of the Alice in Wonderland stories....the Colombian military and government are funded by the USA, a big part of the Great Drug Wars, covert military actions for decades going on. The real story now is U.S. troops going to Colombian bases...up to now it's been CIA and covert actions. One thing, it would be nice to honor the U.S. Constitution and "declare wars," rather than just slip and slid into them as we have been doing since WWII. Now we're in a era of endless lifetimes of global war...without the proper authorization required by the Constitution...thus, illegal, this, wrong. We infect Central and South America. We're in Africa. Killing Iraq and targeting Iran. Pressuring Russia on it's borders Like most imperialist the government and military has a long list of reasons...but if their reasons were honest then the proper procedures for declaring war would be honest too.

POPS How Close are Obama and Alinsky? RUSH: Yeah, that's a good point. CALLER: Searching for his own identity. Now, third -- this is the last one I wanted to bring up -- Alinsky had an absolute contempt for the middle class. While he was attempting to go organize them for his own objectives, he wrote, "Our rebels have contemptuously rejected the values and way of life of middle class." So, Rush, fundamentally I don't think Obama, like Alinsky, really understands the middle class, its dreams and aspirations. RUSH: Oh, you're dead-on right about that. He doesn't understand the middle class. He holds everybody in contempt. He's an elitist. Alinsky was an elitist! This book is all about how to use those people and manipulate them to get power for yourself while they think you're doing something for them.

POPSU.S. Military Wants to Double Troops in Afghanistan
In this era of Lifetime War Everywhere, U.S. military leaders here and on political talk shows now say they need more troops. What a surprise. This way, when they fail, they can blame it on Obama. It's like the recent prison riots in the U.S. The prison authorities say the problem is they need more money, weapons and training. But...maybe part of the problem is having cruel prisons with the largest percent prison population in the world, many for non-violent, victimless so-called crimes. But, large prisons, a lifetime of endless worldwide wars, does help their budgets grow and grow and if anything goes wrong...well, they will say it's just because they didn't get enough support rather than see they were idiots and failures. Note too, in this clip, Afghanistan is now described as a "NATO mission." -- another common tactic in this new Lifetime of Endless Worldwide Wars....it's not just U.S. -- it's NATO or the UN. Truth & right do count, though. So losing is inevitable

POPSAfghan War Part of Economic Stimulus Plan? What a way to up job figures - more contractors in Afghanistan than troops. Seems as though we are copying British plan to combat American Rebels in 1778 - Hire out of work German soldiers to fight G. Washington. This is just nuts and would make a great Marx Brothers (not Carl Marx) movie if it were not for all the people dying and getting wounded.

POPS Murder of Natalia Estemirova ;Will Russia punish the killers? Natasha was well known outside Russia as someone who sought justice and accountability for abuses by all sides to the conflict in Chechnya. We honored her with the Human Rights Watch Defender Award in 2007. Natasha had also been honored by various European institutions: In 2005 she received the European Parliament's Robert Shuman medal and in 2004 was awarded the "Right to Life" award by the Swedish Parliament. She also was the first recipient of the Anna Politkovskaya prize -- named for the journalist who met the same fate. While the international community applauded her work, the Chechen authorities were not as pleased. She risked, and lost, her life for her cause. We are planning a concerted response to ensure that Russia does not let this crime go uninvestigated or forgotten.Shared sentiment with chara and thnx... www.hrw.org
