Robot controlled by own biological brain
pokkets
by pokkets  8-13-2008
They used rat neurones. Maybe we'll discover what rats have been thinking, or how the nature of thinking varies from species to species, if and what significant 'character' differences there are. We may even find rats have the potential to be much smarter than we thought they were. The neurons act in response to stimuli. Maybe the best way to describe them is 'curious' It can be fairly certain there will be no official testing with human neurones, but there will be testing. I also wonder if the instinct for self preservation goes that deep - Sounds like the kind of thing that would interest the military.

A Robot Controlled by Self Organizing Biological Neural Net
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-13-2008    3
"Within a week we get some spontaneous firings and brain-like activity" similar to what happens in a normal rat -- or human -- brain, he added. But without external stimulation, the brain will wither and die within a couple of months. "Now we are looking at how best to teach it to behave in certain ways," explained Warwick. To some extent, Gordon learns by itself. When it hits a wall, for example, it gets an electrical stimulation from the robot's sensors. As it confronts similar situations, it learns by habit.

25%+ of all Pentagon money is unaccounted for
papananook
by papananook  8-10-2008    4
Why Bush & Co. love war. Little known fact: George Herbert Walker, grandfather of George Bush Sr. and George Bush Jr, besides being a major financier to the Nazis along with his son-in-law Prescott Bush, was also appointed supervisor of military contracts by Woodrow Wilson. Interestingly enough, it's much easier to find out details of the family's dealings with the Nazis than it is to uncover the simple, biographical fact that the Bush dynasty has been hardwired into the finances of the Pentagon since Day One. Ripping off the nation via the Pentagon is a four generation old business for this crew. No wonder they're so good at it. 9/11 helped then both cover their tracks and take things to a new level. Wow, that's a pretty good scam for some people...I wonder where all that tax money goes? It's bad enough how they rip us off legally, let alone down the rabbit hole to...?

FBI Offered $2.5MM and Sports Car to Ivin's Son in Anthrax Case
blueridge
by blueridge  8-6-2008    1
$2.5 million and "sports car of choice". Bribery by the FBI, blatant corruption called instead "aggressive tactics" in the news headline. Would that have impacted the content of his testimony too? Correct me if wrong but if someone is witness to an alleged crime, subpoenas are used to legally force them to testify. They were trying to get evidence for a grand jury, but still I think it applies. This was outside the normal legal means, a clear mark of desperation and even attempting to fix the case, perhaps even create false testimony through bribery. This appears to be an attempt at Top-Down conspiracy to frame Ivins for the Anthrax case , and after paying Hatfill $5 million in a settlement (hush money) where they admitted no wrong doing. The FBI should be investigated for this, they are not above the law!
