Feds Gone Wild -- The Overcriminalizing of Americans
blueridge
by blueridge  10-8-2009    1
This is excerpts from bi-partisan hearing to address grievances on Federal power. The SWAT raid by Fish and Wildlife is worth reading in the original, and a great example of the insanity of present Federal power.

Love this stuff. Amuses me that people actually worry about this stuff. Ever since the beginning of time there has always been a doomsday just ahead. Only benefit i can see if when we all wake up tomorrow we can give that sigh of relief....lol

The Sutton Hoo Treasure
cakebelly
by cakebelly  7-25-2009    3
"Sutton Hoo, (grid reference TM288487) near Woodbridge, Suffolk, is an Anglo-Saxon cemetery and the site of an early 7th century ship burial. The ship-burial was discovered in 1939 and contained a wealth of artefacts. Sutton Hoo is of primary importance to early medieval historians because it sheds light on a period in English history that otherwise has little documented evidence remaining - it has been called "page one of English history". It is one of the most remarkable archaeological finds in England because of its age, size, far reaching connections, completeness, beauty, rarity and historical importance."

Global Grocer: Imports, Rarity, and the Case for Origin Labeling
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  5-7-2009
Seasonal impulses could help save small farms and the planet – but only if they’re supported by adequate origin labeling, so shoppers can distinguish between good, local, seasonal food and over-traveled, chemically ripened, unseasonable food. Instead of having your favorite fruit or vegetable everyday of the year, lacking its special tenderness or sweetness because it was forced to grow with chemicals and picked too early so it can withstand the rigors of a long travel time, wouldn’t you rather have it at its peak freshness and flavor a few times a year because it was grown locally and in season? Any locavore will tell you that embracing this rarity, far from being an altruistic sacrifice, is actually a deliciously hedonistic adventure. Americans can’t reclaim rarity as a cultural value until we are able make educated decisions about not just what to buy, but where to buy it from – and consequently, when.

Instead of Fighting Traffic Cameras, Start Driving Safely
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  3-27-2009
People don’t like these cameras because they catch them breaking the law and present enforceable proof of it, and few people like to pay for breaking the law. Instead of fighting these cameras how about we all drive the speed limit and actually stop at red lights. Wow, what a concept. Thinking about safety on the road and not endangering everyone else. Yes people, safety IS why these cameras are being installed. Because the general population cannot seem to control themselves, tax payer dollars have to be spent on these damn cameras. The other reason for these cameras is because too many people think it is acceptable to drive their vehicles without paying for the privilege. License fees and property taxes are inevitable if you want to drive. We all have to pay. No one gets to drive for free.

Download Bolt Movie Free Home
Danger7
by Danger7  3-4-2009    1
Bolt, along with Kung Fu Panda, is hopefully part of a quality trend for Dreamworks and not a rarity. This is undoubtedly the best product Dreamworks has offered up in years - a charming, fun, superbly animated film that is probably the best animated film that will be on the big screen this year this side of Pixar's Up.

Women Test Limits
debbyski
by debbyski  10-6-2008    5
"Now, women are taking courses run by nongovernmental organizations, getting educated and learning ways to improve their family incomes. Most important, the women have won over the men, she said. “Their minds have changed,” Najiba said. “They want to share decisions, not too far, but they want to give us some share.”

Now, The Bad News
debbyski
by debbyski  9-4-2008    8
Well, what can I say? I married young, and it's lasted all these years. Then again "my guy" and I were responsible enough to use birth control before marriage and until we were able to afford any children. Of course Palin will help out daughter with the affording part, so it's all good baby. I remember listening to the priest before we got married giving us the big talk about the "rhythm" method; and I was thinking I can't wait to get my rhythm on later baby and I bet he can't either!
