POPSBarack "Houdini" Obama Promises were broken with no apology, the same creative legalese that infested the Bush administration, in the form of John Yoo and Alberto Gonzalez, was again used to deny justice to the inmates of Guantanamo, It was used to justify more torture, more destruction of the Constitution and more illegal surveillance of U.S. citizens

POPSThere's good news about racism in America When a Boston cop refers to Gates as a "banana-eating jungle monkey," when a town hall protester rips up a picture of Rosa Parks and the crowd cheers, look up! There's a reason racism is angry: it's losing ground.

POPSThe Lost "Beer Summit" Transcripts GATES: Okay, we have been here long enough for pictures, can we go now? CROWLEY: I agree. OBAMA: You see, I am the racial healer, I can bring people together. GATES: I just want to get away from the vice-president. CROWLEY: Same here. OBAMA: We are on a role. This is a historical fundamental change in American race relations BIDEN: If I drink enough of the Jamaican Red Stripe beer professor, will I get a cool accent? GATES: What the Hell does that mean? OBAMA: Shut up Joe! Go play on Malia and Sasha’s swing set. BIDEN: Cool OBAMA: Sit down Joe. I wasn’t serious about the swing set. Just sit there and be quiet. CROWLEY: This isn’t going well. Mr. President if you apologize for calling the Cambridge Police Department stupid before you knew all the facts we can all move on.

POPSSgt. Crowley Gets Ovation at Police Convention
More than 3,000 police officers cheered Crowley when he spoke at the Long Beach Convention Center. Dozens left their seats to take snapshots of him as he stood at the podium. "The past month has been very difficult for my family, my friends and my colleagues back in Cambridge, and it's no exaggeration to say that it wouldn't be as easy for me to handle this without the support from the Fraternal Order of Police ... and the support that the men and women who do this job have given me," he said. "Thank you very much." Crowley declined to comment further after leaving the stage. Crowley arrested Gates on July 16. The officer was first to respond to the home the renowned black scholar rents from Harvard University, after a woman reported seeing two men trying to force open the front door. Gates said he had to shove the door open because it was jammed. He was charged with disorderly conduct after police said he yelled at Crowley, accused him of racial bias . . .

POPSElitists' Rules for The Working Class Interesting photo, no matter which way you break on that. Touching interaction between Crowley and Gates (who finally climbs down a little in his latest take* on this whole business, acknowledging he had something to learn about the cops. I’d add he still needs to acknowledge new lessons about race relations. * 'An Accident of Time and Place' "...I thank God that I live in a country in which police officers put their lives at risk to protect us every day, and, more than ever, I’ve come to understand and appreciate their daily sacrifices on our behalf." The Root By: Henry Louis Gates Jr. http://www.theroot.com/views/accident-time-and-place Obama looks like he’s ready to get these two and the awkward situation they represent out of his house. Either that or it shows us what we already knew. Crowley is a gentleman. Obama, as amply demonstrated by assorted bizarre international incidents, is not.

POPSNBC wants Fox competitor Glenn Beck fired. Ah, liberal tolerance. As long as this place is called America, Beck can say whatever the hell he wants, just as liberals wrote and spoke about their fantasies of assassinating George Bush. If NBC thinks America will only achieve greatness if it were Cuba, then they're the ones that need to pack up, get in a boat, and row row row....south of Miami. Stupid. And the execs at NBC wonder why they're sitting at #7 below The Food Network in the ratings.

POPS“Can’t we all just get along?”
But apparently Gates still doesn’t get it. If he wants a New Yorker article and a PBS documentary out of this, he’s going to have to dig deep and challenge his own thinking on race relations. A simple misunderstanding and flared tempers lacks a little umph and isn’t going to cut it. Hard to get indignant about that. But I dunno, Professor Gates, there could be something in this idea that we are entering a new phase in race relations, some new ground you can chart out. Maybe we’re approaching a place in this country where no one can make immediate assumptions, throw around accusations, and make demands anymore. Where there has to be some room for nuance, understanding. And the recognition that racism is a two-way street. Think about it. Obama, too, who also called this a “teachable moment.” Absolutely. If he’s willing to listen, and learn. Turns out this is not so much about race as it is about being civil. In the transcendant words of Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?"

POPSMore Race-based policies from the Obama administration
His entrance into the dust-up between a Massachusetts police officer and Dr. Henry Gates proves that as far as our President is concerned, if you're white, you're not right. He played the race-card in a grand Presidential trump, accusing a white cop of violating a black man's rights. He refused to even consider that his friend, the esteemed doctor, behaved like a titty baby. The Administration's own numbers show that rural America is a diverse community. There is no need for Government intervention. Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center acknowledges that the rise in "hate" groups is astounding, in the last five years, we’ve seen a 30% increase in the number of hate groups. There you have it. All those years of Government mandated affirmative action programs have failed. If the goal was to improve racial relations, they missed it by a country mile. Further proof that the last thing the rural community needs is a bunch of liberal urbanites dictating how we live.

POPSBlacks in survey say race relations are worse under Obama (cnn.com)
From Blackinformant.com: The Democratic party played the race card to the hilt all throughout the election cycle. If you criticized Obama in any way, you were portrayed as either a “racist” who secretly did not want a Black man in the White House or you were simply an “Uncle Tom”. After Obama won the election, the media was quick to locate racist loons like David Duke (whose opinions never matter to the mainstream in the first place) and ask him for his two cents on Obama. Democrats repeatedly asked the question “Is Obama Black enough?” when Obama was running against Hillary Clinton. Any association with fried chicken with Obama became a few marchers short of launching yet another civil rights movement. Didn’t like the first lady’s fashion picks? You were a mean, bitter person who simply had a hard time dealing with Black women in powerful positions. Didn’t support the stimulus package? It was considered a “…a slap in the face of African-Americans.”

POPS Specterenfreude DailyKOS: "Keep it up Arlen, your Joe Lieberman impersonation is so spot-on, that we can't wait to take you on in the Democratic primary." Whiskey Fire: "... because he's just overall kind of a douchebag." The news hasn't been this much fun since Monica remembered she kept that blue dress. UPDATE: The hits just keep coming. Asked whether he regretted any of the roughly 10,000 votes he has cast as a Senator, Specter could think of just one: Sen. Arlen Specter said Tuesday he regrets his vote against Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) two decades ago that helped kill his nomination to the federal bench. Sessions, who has now assumed Specter's former position as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, was nominated by President Ronald Reagan in 1986 to be a federal judge — but Specter provided a key "no" vote after allegations were made that Sessions had a poor record on race relations as Alabama attorney general. Sessions has called those allegations false and unfound
