POPSFBI New Jersey Arrests Focus on Syrian Jewish Rabbis The article details this insulated and tightly regulated Syrian Jewish community, along with their financial enterprises, their interesting history and strict adherence to their religious leaders teachings: The Syrian Jewish communities in Brooklyn and Deal are known for their ability to flourish financially in the secular world , particularly in the garment and electronics industries, while retaining centuries-old religious customs and traditions .....The Syrian Jewish community is also noted for adherence to the absolute authority of its religious leaders , and nowhere is this more evident than in a 1935 ban by Syrian rabbis against intermarriage, including people who converted to Judaism ... The penalty imposed for marrying outside the faith or to a convert is severe: excommunication. One wonders if this was a Christian community with similar traits, how it would be portrayed in the mainstream media, particularly upon such arrests.

POPSThe Rise of the Golden Rule Were that it was so easy! I couldn't agree more with the opinion that this is truly the essence of religion. Perhaps if our faith communities would spend less time defining orthodox beliefs and more time in transformational spiritual practices we'd all be better off. But alas, it is easier to turn into the thought police than to deal with our own souls.

POPSThis, too, was a funeral Kind of puts in perspective the media frenzy circus of the laying to rest of St. Michael. True Jackson's death was news, but the media went so far over-board it bordered on the ridiculous. Farrah Fawcett died the same day I believe, however, once news broke that Jackson was rushed to the hospital, Fawcett may as well had died last year. Although some coverage was warranted since Jackson was a celebrity, but what we got was almost sickening.
