PQ | Yvo de Boer
altaloman
by altaloman  1-29-2010
Addressing the media for the first time since last month's Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Yvo de Boer said the fact that Copenhagen did not deliver the full agreement the world needs to address climate change “just makes the task more urgent.” Three key things that Copenhagen produced are: 1) It raised climate change to the highest level of government; 2) The Copenhagen Accord reflects a political consensus on the long-term, global response to climate change; 3) The negotiations brought an almost full set of decisions to implement rapid climate action near to completion. Mr. de Boer said that we’re now in a cooling off period that gives countries useful and needed time to resume their discussions with each other. “If countries follow up the outcomes of Copenhagen calmly, with eyes firmly on the advantage of collective action, they have every chance of completing the job,” he said. ___ SOURCE | http://googlelabs.twi.bz/z ___ SEARCH | http://google.twi.bz/x

Candidate for SC governor: helping the poor is like "feeding stray animals"
enbar
by enbar  1-24-2010    2
This is current SC Lt. Gov. André Bauer, who is campaigning for the Republican nomination for governor (to take over Mark Sanford's seat). His astute powers of observation have also revealed that "free and reduced lunch" schools correlate with low test scores. Stop the presses! News flash! Politician discovers that poor kids perform poorly on standardized tests! Who could have guessed it? Bauer's apparent solution to poverty: take away their free lunches, and these kids will suddenly start testing better.

Anti-Aging: How Fish Oil Can Help Preserve Youth
fatlester
by fatlester  1-19-2010    1
In light of the fact that I am not a scientist or health expert, I will refrain from attempting to re-articulate the gist of this news story so as to make sure the facts are communicated accurately in the words of the very scientists who conducted the research. Too often, journalists take far too much liberty when reporting on scientific developments, with inaccuracy often resulting from the reporter (who is often ignorant to the facts surrounding the topic being reported on) attempting to paraphrase without checking with an expert to ensure accuracy prior to being published. For the sake of avoiding any such error on my behalf, the above quotations were taken directly from the actual article and are word-for-word citations straight from the source. In other words, the above snippets are the words of the scientists involved and/or the reporter(s) covering the story, and are not my own semantic illustrations.

PQ | John Robbins
altaloman
by altaloman  1-2-2010
EarthSave was founded in 1989 by John Robbins to channel the tremendous response to his book, Diet for a New America, into sustained and positive action. With nearly 40 chapters in the United States, and many others throughout the world, the organization promotes food choices that are healthy for people and for the planet, helping countless numbers to shift toward plant-based diets and to take compassionate action for all life on Earth. The organization's programs are essentially educational, working internationally, nationally, and through local chapters to get the word out and to help people discover alternatives to the Standard American Diet. ___ http://google.twi.bz/iu ___ http://altacities.com

Tilting at windbags: Glenn Beck's fondness for Thomas Paine
Lexica
by Lexica  1-1-2010    2
More: Truth be told, Paine was the very antithesis of people like Beck, an ideologue who will stop at nothing—including distorting the truth about a Founding Father—in order to deceive, which, as Paine also wrote in “The Age of Reason,” isn’t all that difficult to do, because “the sublime and the ridiculous are often so nearly related that it is difficult to class them separately.”

Alameda Title Loans
TitleLoans
by TitleLoans  12-11-2009
Is there a typical loan amount with Alameda Title Loans? It is up to you and your car. We give title loans in Alameda of all sizes every day. People can choose any amount they want once they qualify for an amount above $2,600 and have taken out loans up to $30,000 My car is an oldie but goodie, is that ok for Alameda Title Loans? Typically we take car and trucks from 1996 and later, but if you have a gem in your garage, or a fixed up T-bird, we’ll certainly take a look. Does Alameda Title Loans charge a big initial fee just to take out the loan? No. You only pay the low monthly interest rates. Other companies will try to offer insanely low rates, but what they don’t advertise is the huge initial fee which puts the net interest rate of theirs, way way above ours. Those are the only “interest rates” you’ll find lower than ours. See, the quotations around “interest rates” because they way those other companies do business is nearly fraud.
