Do Animals Dream?
Socratoad
by Socratoad  Yesterday 6:05 PM    2
Studies conducted in 2000 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), led Cambridge researchers to believe that not only do animals dream, but their dreams can be highly complex involving long sequences of replayed waking events. Results, published in the 25 January 2001 issue of the Neuron journal, suggested that rats trained to run a track dreamed about their experiences. Actually anyone with an observant eye and a love of animals knows this to be true .... sigh, I suppose the halls of academia need to pretend to be doing "ground breaking research"

The Clintonites were wrong
ratilfar
by ratilfar  Yesterday 8:07 AM    1
First: The source of the boom was not a bubble associated with tech stocks, but rather a permanent increase in U.S. productivity growth produced by the information technology (I.T.) revolution. Second: Foreign money was pouring into the U.S. as a result of well-informed expectations that the U.S. would lead the world in economic growth for a long period to come. Third: Increased inequality in the U.S. was a result of the global market rewarding skilled Americans at the expense of unskilled Americans, and could be cured by more higher education. Something like this was the cheerful and optimistic New Democrat party line in 2000, the last year of the Clinton administration. How do things look from the perspective of 2010? It is now clear that the boom of the second Clinton term was driven by the temporary tech stock bubble. It did not mark the beginning of a "new economy" fundamentally different from the old.

Jesus Hated War-Why Do Christians Love It So?
mcsmithblack
by mcsmithblack  12-29-2009    10
More from the article below: "A major unasked question is “what should be the role of religion (specifically Christianity) in the starting and perpetuation of politically motivated wars?” If war-makers mix religion and politics by invoking God’s blessings on the cannons and the cannon fodder, shouldn’t the churches, which are supposed to be the consciences of the nation, apply core Christian ethical principles to the war question and refuse to cooperate with the slaughter of fellow children of God? Sadly, for the past 1,700 years, Christian churches have not done so. They have largely failed in their moral obligation to teach and live the Golden Rule and the Sermon on the Mount."

Dear Steve Savage: Do you feel disrespected by my question to you?
Antara
by Antara  12-29-2009    5
Unlike most of the gaggle of evil hags commenting on that clip, I have been a vocal fan of Steve, and his amazing family. I had a LEGITIMATE question for him given the stuff he is POPPING and giving support to lately, case in point an AL JAZEERA report on the military (good grief). Seems that his position has changed radically in some areas and I wanted to know why--so I ASKED HIM. Too bad you creeps cannot handle it. Steve answered my query quite directly, and although I do not agree with some of his conclusions, I still admire the man. There was no nastiness sent his way at all----I save my disgust for those most deserving of it---and that is definitely the left leaning gang of goofballs now ganging up on poor lil me, lol , how shall I survive such dreadful bullying *sobs Anyone on CLipmarks longer than a year knows exactly what Debbieslimyski is, lol....you ain't foolin no one mrs " I am a married catholic and president of the GAY population worldwide" LOL....gimmie a BREAK

What IS the best way to get traffic?
yulanda_callanan

Getting high quality traffic is probably the biggest question asked by both new and established online businesses. After all, it makes no difference if you are selling a product, promoting affiliate links, or displaying adsense – you need traffic. And loads of it. So how do you do it?

by debbyski  12-26-2009
It is a gift to me also to see the historical significance of what it means to follow Christianity. It poses the very important question: How did the religion of Jesus become pro-rich, pro-war and only pro-American? For Christians, it is a provocative question that should haunt us in what often seems to be a Christ-forgetting country.

Yes, I Am My Brother's Keeper.
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  12-25-2009    7
Keep your eye in the almighty dollar and your fellow man. Get the dollar and keep him down. Make him produce for you. You are not your brother's keeper. Suppose he is poor! Suppose his wife is forced into prostitution! Suppose his child is deformed! And suppose he shuffles off by destroying himself! What is that to you? And if you succeed, that fixes you as a businessman. You have all the necessary qualifications. Don't let your conscience disturb you.--that would interfere with business. Competition was natural enough at one time, but do you think you are competing today? Against whom? Against Rockefeller? When we are in partnership and have stopped clutching each other's throats, when we have stopped enslaving each other,we will stand together, hands clasped, and be friends. we will be comrades, we will be brothers, and we will begin the march to the grandest civilization the human race has ever known. Excerpts from Eugene V. Debs' famous speech on May 23, 1908.

Mandatory Provision of Health Care Bill is Authoritarian, Unconstitutional
blueridge
by blueridge  12-25-2009
Both liberals and conservatives are challenging its Constitutionality. To claim to "provide health insurance for thousands of Americans", by simply making it mandatory and threatening a fine (as the Senate bill does) is not a "public service", but tyranny. Listen to this powerful argument, from the left (David Swanson) : The Constitution provides Congress with certain enumerated powers in Article I and explicitly leaves all other powers to the states or the people in the 10th Amendment. So, the constitutional question, for those who still care whether laws are constitutional, is whether the power to force you to buy a horrible product you do not want from a disreputable monopolistic corporation that pays regular bribes to your elected representatives in the form of campaign "contributions" is specifically listed anywhere in Article I. Great point, is it not?

what people's dreams were like before the cinema was invented ?? ..

"The state of cinema IS a dream state. No known address. Occupied, dictated, created by no one. When it comes to moving goal posts, what art form could be described as more flexible than film?" "It was in Tarkovsky's Stalker that I saw an image of a dream that I have been visited by all my life made real (Does a thing have to be shared to be made real?). A bird flying towards the camera dips its wing into the sand that fills a room. Did I imagine this?" Each year, the Film Society invites one of the leaders in cinema to address the issues facing the film world today. In 2006, the State of Cinema address was delivered by the stunning, eloquent and provocative Tilda Swinton. given on Sunday, April 29, 2006 at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas. warmly recommended 2 read it all !!

Mumbai suspect is US double agent, India claims
foxyarse
by foxyarse  12-16-2009
Indian officials are desperate to question Headley but have been frustrated by American refusals to grant them access. A team of Indian investigators travelled to Washington shortly after Headley was arrested in October but soon returned after their American counterparts told them they would not be able to meet him. They want to question him about the Mumbai attacks involved Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency in any way and the role of Indian extremists in providing logistical support. American officials say that under US law they cannot force any person in their custody to give evidence to foreign agencies. But Indian intelligence officers have questioned why Washington is not doing more to help their own inquiry

A Modest Proposal by Ken Blackwell
merrie
by merrie  12-16-2009    1
I have a modest proposal. There is one thing we could do that would make a small contribution to lowering temperatures: We could bury, not burn, the bodies of unborn children who have been aborted under Mr. Obama’s health care takeover. Currently, the practice is to incinerate the hundreds of thousands of bodies cruelly of those denied the right to life. If we really seek “common ground” on this contentious question, we might start by giving the unborn children a decent burial. Liberal writer Naomi Wolf has written movingly of the “baby furies” that she felt were pursuing her after her abortion. She noted that in Japan, there are touching ceremonies of little paper boats with candles floated down slow-moving rivers. These ceremonies are designed to help women cope with this most terrible of choices. Part of the terrible contentiousness of this question is the unwillingness of most liberals even to concede that the unborn child is a child. In 1983, the U.S. Supreme Court .....

Cupertino Title Loans
TitleLoans
by TitleLoans  12-11-2009
What will I need with Cupertino Title Loans to get the loan? You only need six things: an ID, proof of residence, proof of income, insurance, references and your title. How easy is that! (No question mark there because it’s a rhetorical question/statment, it’s more of a statement than question.) Will I be hit with any extra fees by Cupertino Title Loans? Nope. We tell you how everything will be done before you get started and you’ll see the only thing you will have to pay is the super low monthly interest on our title loans in Cupertino. Cupertino Title Loans is an independent company, acting as a direct lender that has been successful enough since the start that we can take risks that other places can’t. We like to think for ourselves and that’s just what we’ve been doing. Cupertino Title Loans has been satisfying customer since we opened in 2001 and see no reason to change our business model when it comes to offering title loans in Cupertino.
