POPSDancing At The Bar I'll never forget the first time I went to a gay bar with my straight friends. Bless their hearts; they loved me so much that they wanted to take me there and they knew I didn't have the guts to go alone. Such good intentions. So, it was a mixed club scene with gays and lesbians and of course the curious straight crowd. What struck me was the feeling I had when I walked through the door. It was a homecoming of sorts for me and of course I kept that to myself. I frantically looked around and wanted to see if anyone noticed my reaction, but my friends were all too busy making fun of the queers in there. They leaned over to me and said "You aren't a freak like all these people debby; you aren't!" Somehow they thought that was a compliment. But I was exactly like everyone else in that bar on the inside and when they were making fun of others, they were making fun of me too.

POPSNY To Back Same-Sex Unions From Elsewhere Look how far we have come as human beings! It wasn't so long ago that gays were reviled as "fags" or "queers" and homosexuality was considered, and treated as a psychological disorder and gays and lesbians did not dare admit their sexual orientation for fear of losing their jobs. Sure, some evangelical ministers will continue to denounce homosexuality from the pulpit and urge parishioners to join them in denying equal rights to gays and lesbians. And some poor misguided souls will blindly agree. But their hate speech will eventually fail because their crusade to treat gays and lesbians as second-class citizens is WRONG and the vast majority of Americans will choose equality every time.

POPSLewis Black - Queers With all the things going on in the world, our President decided there was one issue that towered over them all: Queers.

POPSFag Exam I'm not sure of Dunne's method, but if he can afford to A) not pass the bar and B) fight the bar association, I am glad to see someone calling the sodomy-pushers to account for their attempts to screen out all non-perverts from their favored profession. As one facing a bar exam in a couple of weeks, I'm sure I'll face some of the same crap. Unfortunately, I need to enter the profession prior to working for its reformation.

POPSSocial Sites Reveal A Cultural Divide... Maybe The following cultural divisions have allegedly been drawn in a recent "preliminary draft" of research from Danah Boyd (a PhD student at UC Berkeley, which is reason for skepticism on it's own.) It'll be interesting to see what the final report looks like, but the preliminary results are worthy of testing by savvy New Media marketers. From our experience with 30-plus crowd in the major social networks, MySpace is home to more direct sales/network marketing types while FaceBook tends to be more college grads (but mostly corporate worker bees.) LinkedIn and eCademy are where you'll find more business owners and high level executives.

POPSNew Debate on 'Curing' Gays I think this represents a big changed in relatively little time. It wasn't so long ago that gays were reviled as "fags" or "queers" and homosexuality was considered and treated as a psychological disorder. No religious conservative--Catholic, Protestant, Jew, or Muslim--would stand up in the pulpit today and declare that blacks are inferior human beings. And it's only a matter of time before they stop calling gays and lesbians inferior also. For the very same reason: it contradicts God's love for all creation.

POPSPride Week in Toronto - the largest gay festival ever culminating in Pride Parade It's fantastic festival - and don't think it is exclusively for gays! The largest of its kind - but it has to be if ypu consider that Toronto has the largest gay population in America. It has also 2 distinctive gay villages with shops, restaurants and clubs, often visited by stright persons, its own theatre and tv station. There is also the official nude beach :))

POPSBrits' innovative Christmas compassion for the elderly continued from above.... The Health Minister said they were listening carefully to all the objections to the pilot hibernation scheme, and that all these issues would be discussed as a matter of urgency by a Parliamentary enquiry which the government had entrusted to the House of Lords. However work on the Lords’ investigation appears to have been postponed until mid-May.

POPSgay schmay It's hard enough to carry the ball across the goal line, but having to carry the entire gay population, cheering, vindicated, claiming moral supremacy. An Oscar would have been totally lost in that fray. Besides, Crash was brilliant. And it had fabulous black actors in it. Personally, my feelings are nobody gets to eat until the blacks get their seat at the table and eat their fill. Oh, and a national apology for slavery would be nice, but I digress.
