POPSWhat is "rape culture"?
Click through for the whole thing. More: Rape culture is treating straight sexuality as the norm. Rape culture is lumping queer sexuality into nonconsensual sexual practices like pedophilia and bestiality… Rape culture is rape being used as a weapon, a tool of war and genocide and oppression. Rape culture is rape being used as a corrective to "cure" queer women. Rape culture is a militarized culture and "the natural product of all wars, everywhere, at all times, in all forms." Rape culture is 1 in 33 men being sexually assaulted in their lifetimes. Rape culture is encouraging men to use the language of rape to establish dominance over one another ("I'll make you my bitch")… Rape culture is 1 in 6 women being sexually assaulted in their lifetimes. Rape culture is not even talking about the reality that many women are sexually assaulted multiple times in their lives. Rape culture is the way in which the constant threat of sexual assault affects women's daily movements.

POPSTime to End 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' Official Writes Sure. Please declare yourselves openly so that people serving along side of you can decide how to deal with this. There are more important things to think about other than whether the person next to you is queer or not when you are in combat. I have my opinions and I don't envy those who choose to "tell". But .... get rid of the law. It's deceitful and hypocritical.

POPSDick Cheney rolls in his grave "You might say Dick is not pleased. In fact, Dick Cheney -- and the entire hawkish, antagonistic worldview he embodies -- is downright furious at this country's dangerous new direction. Which, in its way, just might be the best news I've heard all year." Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2009/08/14/notes081409.DTL#ixzz0OK4eeiMd

POPSBritish injustice continues Member of Parliament for blackpool promised to resist the American extradition of this man, then promptly fell into his cowardly shell as this immoral and illegal government put the pressure on. you want Brits to fight your illegal wars but you are not prepared to fight for our legitimate rights. Your silence, Gordon Marsden, on the Andy Miller situation only emphisise the fact that you are unfit to represent anyone except your odd - queer (sic) - associates.

POPSDear Jon Stewart - Please Change Your Name Back to Leibowitz This is a great opinion piece! If you read the whole article, you'll even get a nod to Michael Jackson and the author's affirmation of the importance of making our external image line up with our internal self-identity. Our bigotry as a society will subside only when those of us who don't subscribe in one way or another to the majority have the courage to be ourselves. This is fundamental to queer theory, diversity, and multi-culturalism...but the costs of facing social ostracization are steep. Be brave everyone! The world needs to be a place where individuals can be themselves at every level!

POPSComic: "Men kissing each other…it throws me off" says Kiss my ass, Joe The even bigger rent-a-mouthpiece than Palin is displaying his best attribute. Yes, Joe the bigotry, is now available for a large fee to any 'Christian' fundamentalist cult that need a rabble-rouser and can afford the fee. For the right fee, the asshole will bend right over but refuses to touch a male himself. He'll make a perfect prostitute candidate in the reformed Rush led GOP party. Please stop laughing. This is past funny.

POPSOut Of The Closet And Into The Pews Hate the sin, love the sinner? Or is it really hate the sin and maybe even harass the sinner? This is real anti-gay prejudice and it causes suffering. I say anyone who casts someone out of the church for simply being the person God made them is effectively standing between them and God and it is wrong.

More: That might not sound like a big deal until one considers an example: "First, we can immediately find his political orientation based on his strong opinions about Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky in Our Times and Fahrenheit 9/11. Strong guesses about his religious views can be made based on his ratings on Jesus of Nazareth and The Gospel of John. He did not like Super Size Me at all; perhaps this implies something about his physical size? Both items that we found with predominantly gay themes, Bent and Queer as folk were rated one star out of five. He is a cultish follower of Mystery Science Theater 3000. This is far from all we found about this one person, but having made our point, we will spare the reader further lurid details."…Back in 2000, a Carnegie Mellon researcher took a look at 1990 US census data and concluded that 87 percent of all Americans could be uniquely identified based on only three items: ZIP code, gender, and date of birth.
