Friday, September 24, Hardball, read by correspondent Christina Brown: "Terror suspect Najibullah Zazi is back in New York. He was flown from Colorado to a detention facility in Brooklyn to face charges of conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction on U.S. soil." By contrast, FNC's The O'Reilly Factor mentioned the story twice during the past week, while Special Report with Bret Baier mentioned it three times -- on September 18, 21, and 25. CNN's Campbell Brown covered the story even more aggressively, as the story received attention on her show on September 16, 18, 21, 22, 24, and 25. News of the plot also ran a few times on Anderson Cooper 360 and on Lou Dobbs Tonight. ABC's World News with Charles Gibson, the CBS Evening News, and the NBC Nightly News all ran several reports on the story over the past two weeks. POPS Najibullah Zazi Indicted in Terror Plot NYPD raids in Queens last week turned up nine backpacks and cell phones, raising fears of a potential attack in the city's sprawling subway system. Authorities withheld the targets of the plot. But sources had told the Daily News that Zazi did computer searches involving baseball stadiums - and carried maps of other New York venues on his computer. Whatever the target, "Zazi took substantial steps toward carrying out the plan," according to a government memorandum demanding his immediate incarceration. The feds painted the bearded Zazi, 24, as a mad bomber whipping up batches of lethal explosives over a stove inside an Aurora, Colo., hotel suite. While inside the suite on Sept. 6-7, Zazi tried several times to reach an unidentified individual "seeking \ correct mixture of ingredients to make explosives," a government memorandum said. "Each communication \ more urgent in tone than the last." Traces of bomb-making material were discovered in a vent .

Later, Najibullah Zazi tells Afzali he feels like he's being watched. _ Sept. 11: Zazi's rental car is towed for a parking violation, according to Zazi's attorney, Arthur Folsom. FBI agents search the car and find a laptop with an image of nine pages of handwritten notes on how to make explosives, detonators and fuses.

They also learned that Afzali and other Zazi associates tried to rent a 26-foot U-Haul truck the day before Zazi arrived in Queens. "The FBI is investigating several individuals in the United States, Pakistan and elsewhere, relating to a plot to detonate improvised explosive devices in the United States," the Justice Department revealed Sunday. Najibullah Zazi, whose high-profile 28 hours of voluntary questioning last week by prosecutors in Denver broke off suddenly on Saturday, told probers he was trained by Al Qaeda in August 2008 at a camp in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the government charged. A laptop found in Zazi's rental car, which the NYPD seized last weekend, contained images of handwritten bomb-making notes, the FBI said. Zazi e-mailed the notes to himself using an account . .

POPSTerror Suspects' Failed Queens U-Haul Truck Bid The truck rental bid failed when none of the men could produce a valid credit card. All refused to surrender the identification needed to pay cash, the manager of the Flushing U-Haul said. A team of FBI agents spent 10 hours Thursday combing through the Queens truck rental business. "We all feel very lucky right now," U-Haul manager Robert Larson told The News. When the FBI arrived, Larson said, "I was wondering, 'Where is Ashton Kutcher to tell me I've been punked?'" By the time the agents left, "I realized this is crazy, this is real, it's not a joke," Larson said. The feds turned up at the U-Haul in Jamaica around 11 a.m. Thursday as authorities continued tailing and interviewing suspects linked to the reputed Denver cell. At least three Afghan men - including Ahmad Afzali, a Queens imam identified by a U-Haul employee as one of the would-be renters - were questioned in New York by FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, sources said.
