POPSThe real reason that capitalism is so crash-prone When a person walks, lifting and dropping each foot in turn, he or she produces a slight sideways force. If hundreds of people are walking in a confined space, and some happen to walk in step, they can generate enough lateral momentum to move a footbridge"just a little. Once the footway starts swaying, however subtly, more and more pedestrians adjust their gait to get comfortable, stepping to and fro in synch. As a positive-feedback loop develops between the bridge’s swing and the pedestrians’ stride, the sideways forces can increase dramatically and the bridge can lurch violently. The investigating engineers termed this process “synchronous lateral excitation,” and came up with a mathematical formula to describe it.What does all this have to do with financial markets? Quite a lot

POPSLongest Serving Monach-In-Waiting Turns 60 There were media reports of an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, now Charles' second wife. And then the tragic death of Diana in a car accident in Paris. Now, at 60, he seems happily remarried and is clearly proud of his two grown sons, both popular royals in their own right. During six decades he has carved a niche as one of Britain's leading charity patrons, raising around $150 million a year for 20 charities. "People do pay attention," said Fitzwilliams. "There are jokes about his talking to plants, but he has earned the right to be taken seriously." Prince Charles, asked in a recent BBC interview how he defined his role as prince, said, "I didn't. I made it as I went along as you have probably seen."

Your new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded, and a questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. POPSEngland vs.Britain vs. UK I'm asking for help here from my friendly clippers. Is England considered a country? Is the United Kingdom considered a country? Is Northern Ireland considered a country or a province? This Wikipedia entry is confusing. The UK includes Northern Ireland, whereas Great Britain (or Britain) does not. Right? Thanks for helping me understand this better.
