POPSTop 10 GOP Moderate Moments (via Rush) As I was in the car I switched him on and he was just beginning his countdown. Yes. Either the 'moderates' form their own party or the true conservatives must. I'm tired of voting for the lesser of the 2 evils and violating my true convictions. While these 'moderate' Republicans may be very nice people with good intentions...few actually shared my values. And he's right! The #1 'moderate' revealed so much about himself.

POPSNew York Times Barbie strikes again I don't see this as a Sarah Palin story so much as a story about the Democratic Media Complex tradition of assassinating with lie, innuendo, and slander any conservative leader who they deem a future Ronald Reagan capable of winning theWhite House. Quayle, Newt, and any number of other lesser upstarts have been cut down in recent times; Sarah is just the latest victim.

POPSBush's Auto Bailout is Cronyism: Cerberus Capital Mgmt and Dan Quayle "Why would George W. Bush choose to bail out two companies controlled by Cerberus Capital Management, which is controlled by Bush cronies?" Savage asserts Bush is bailing out not the two automakers, but the Financial Group that holds large shares headed by cronies! Dan Quayle of course was VP under George H. W. Bush.

POPSMcCain voters: Don't Read - about intelligent political debate Reagan health programme would have appalled most Americans , had he explained it as carefully as Carter had done, but he had found a formula for avoiding tough political issues and making his opponents look like wonks. It wasn't always like this. The founding fathers of the republic - Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton and others - were among the greatest thinkers of their age. They felt no need to make a secret of it. How did the project they launched degenerate into George W Bush and Sarah Palin? ... Guardian

POPSDumbing Down of the GOP Palin is an insult to our intelligence. Choosing her as someone who supposedly represents the American people is an insult.

POPSVery Perceptive Column by Deepak Chopra cont.--virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of 'the other.' For millions of Americans, Obama triggers those feelings, but they don't want to express them. He is calling for us to reach for our higher selves, and frankly, that stirs up hidden reactions of an unsavory kind. (Just to be perfectly clear, I am not making a verbal play out of the fact that Sen. Obama is black. The shadow is a metaphor widely in use before his arrival on the scene.) I recognize that psychological analysis of politics is usually not welcome by the public, but I believe such a perspective can be helpful here to understand Palinʼs message. In her acceptance speech Gov. Palin sent a rousing call to those who want to celebrate their resistance to change and a higher vision. Read the rest, pls, for details...

POPSFerraro, Quayle, Palin Roll Call story points out that the controversy around two VP picks, Dan Quayle in 1988 and Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, had little electoral impact those years. As in the stock market, though, past political performance is no guarantee of future results.

POPSWSJ: Palin Not Too Conservative, Pragmatic Which is why McCain chose her--for image only. Sarah Palin is McCain's 'Dan Quayle' (an election ploy that worked for GHWB), who would not interfere with his neoconservative agenda, including on social issues. In regards to oil drilling in Alaska: Sen. McCain opposes ANWR drilling. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal in June, Gov. Palin said that when she met with Sen. McCain at a governor's conference in Washington, they discussed energy but parted company on the issue of drilling in ANWR, which he has opposed. And in regard to her position on a social issue: she supports abstinence-until-marriage programs, where teens are taught to refrain from sex until marriage and contraception is discussed only to explain its failings. ....."Christian conservatives" should see she did not do a very good job in her own family on that issue (i.e. Bristol's pregnancy and open under-age drinking), instead of giving her blind praise.

POPSWhatever happened to family values? How is this not all hypocritical of the Republicans. I don't get how now it is ok to be teen & pregnant and what about the more pressing issues our country is going through - economy, dependence on foreign oil, global-warming, health care?

POPSMcCain Team: Voters Don't Care if Palin Knows the Issues There you go. Sarah Palin isn't a candidate, she's a propaganda delivery system. If they feel they need to isolate her from the press, what the hell are they going to do about the VP debate? Sarah Palin is looking more and more like a Dan Quayle-style empty suit lightweight every day.

POPSLife Of Her Party "When McCain gets in trouble, he pulls out the P.O.W. card. Now Republicans are pulling out the sexist card. But when you use sexism as an across-the-board shield for any legitimate question, you only hurt women. And that’s just another splash of reality."

POPSVice In Go-Go Boots? "The legacy of Geraldine Ferraro was supposed to be that no one would ever go on a blind date with history again. But that crazy maverick and gambler McCain does it, and conservatives and evangelicals rally around him in admiration of his refreshingly cynical choice of Sarah, an evangelical Protestant and anti-abortion crusader who became a hero when she decided to have her baby, who has Down syndrome, and when she urged schools to debate creationism as well as that stuffy old evolution thing."

POPSFrom the Mouth of a Conservative: The Palin Pick "To the extent the experience, qualifications, and national-security arguments are taken off the table, Obama wins." No kidding. That's why the Palin pick appears superficial, a desperate grab to pick up disaffected Hillary voters, and to help us forget that John McCain has been in Washington DC a long time. And while the pick temporarily distracts the US from one of the greatest speeches delivered in history of the US (Obama's last night), within 2 weeks Palin will be seen as a liability, another deer caught in the headlights like Dan Quayle. The allegation that she had a trooper fired for divorcing her sister won't help, especially since the firer said he was pressured from her to fire the trooper. That no doubt credentials her with Rove and his Rovian minions within the GOP.

POPSThat Wacky Century - Part IX (1985-2000) Yes. We all agree that the NASA jokes about the disaster were in poor taste but I swear that I heard the first one less than 24 hours after the explosion! New Coke, Three Mile Island and Chernobyl?? Hmm. I am glad I am allergic to Coke!
