125 Fake Cancer 'Cures' You Should Avoid
Djiezes
by Djiezes  6-30-2008    5
I only clipped the names of the persons/corporations responsible. Watch out for these. See source for the complete list. The products contain ingredients such as bloodroot, shark cartilage, coral calcium, cesium, ellagic acid, Cat's Claw, an herbal tea called Essiac, and mushroom varieties such as Agaricus Blazeii, Shitake, Maitake, and Reishi. These products claim to cure, treat, mitigate or prevent disease, and these products have not been shown to be safe and effective for their labeled conditions of use. Examples of fraudulent claims for these products include: * "Treats all forms of cancer" * "Causes cancer cells to commit suicide!" * "80% more effective than the world's number one cancer drug" * "Skin cancers disappear" * "Target cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone" * "Shrinks malignant tumors" * "Avoid painful surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or other conventional treatments"

Excuse me. But practicing unproven medical methodology is called quackery by the medical establishment ... except when its the medical establishment practicing the quackery.

Patented Dec. 12, 1905, the Timely Warning was manufactured as a solution to amorous dreaming. OMG! See those spikes? And while not listed at this site, I'm sitting here with a Dr. Pepper. It was originally created as a potion by pharmacist.

G. Edward Griffin: A World Without Cancer
WIDEEYECINEMA
by WIDEEYECINEMA  3-2-2008
With billions of dollars spent each year on research, with other billions taken in on the sale of cancer-related drugs, and with fund-raising at an all-time high, there are now more people making a living from cancer than dying from it. If the solution should be found in a simple vitamin, this gigantic industry could be wiped out over night. The result is that the politics of cancer therapy is more complicated than the science.

In the UK this kind of quackery gets government funding. This is a disgrace when other areas of medicine that have scientifically proven efficacy are under funded.

Double Standard for Quackery
laceym
by laceym  5-22-2007    1
It appears to be an unfortunate human characteristic that we are motivated more by irrational emotions or extremism than by calm intellectualism. In the context of CAM, I see a very activist and vocal minority have influence far greater than their numbers or the value of their ideas merit. Meanwhile the “scientific majority” are largely standing on the sidelines, either not perceiving the threat, or not wanting to risk political incorrectness in order to defend science from nonsense. Or, most often, they see is as just not worth their time and effort. The result, I fear, will be a permanent culture change within medicine. I do not think that scientific medicine will ever go away – it is just too valuable and effective. Rather our healthcare system will be increasingly burdened by a resource-sapping parasite of CAM, draining away healthcare and research dollars while confusing the public and distracting them away from the most effective treatments.
