POPSAustralian Terror Laws Watered Down to "Move Beyond" 911 McClelland said the time had come to recalibrate the laws. "I think it's appropriate, given reflections, given time, that we now need to shift our focus to a frame of reference that is long-term so that the public accepts the legislation which in many instances had time limits or sunset clauses, accepts the legislation as being valid, credible and effective, but balanced for the long term," he said. Coalition Senator George Brandis has said the existing laws struck the right balance between personal liberty and public safety.

POPSI know I could be shot down for saying this.... ....but bearing arms should not be a right. Reading this article even skimming it, the obvious truth just jumps out at you. More guns just do not make people safer. More guns brings more guns and death. Why is this so hard to fathom? Look at countries that do not have the right to bear arms willi-nilly. See their crime rate and safety. We are fast down the slippery slope and only picking up speed.

POPSWhich are the worst states for tickets? This article reflects what appears to be the majority view of drivers, and that is that cops monitoring our speed on our nations highways are a hassle. The solution to avoid getting a speeding ticket is simple: STOP SPEEDING. The traffic speed limit is clearly posted, everywhere. No one who gets a speeding ticket has the right to complain about it because they brought it on themselves. Those of us who drive the speed limit are constantly terrorized by fools who have no regard for the safety of anyone else on the road. They ride on your tail end as though you have no business being on the same road with them. This is true home-grown terrorism. I think there should be more cops on the roads to bring some sanity and safety to our roadways. Has anyone ever conducted their own study to see how much time they actually save by speeding from one place to another? Mere seconds or perhaps a minute or two at most is saved. And for what?

POPSBush's laws undone It looks to me like President Obama is allowing the states to rule themselves once again. What are your thoughts.

POPSThe Real Consequences of Media Consolidation
Bloggers, IReporters, eyewitness reports are becoming the only true pulse of what is going on in this country and the world. Think about the missing persons reports we continually see on the evening news. Can it be that only white people are going missing? What about people of color? Are they not going missing? Does the mass media not care about them? Mass media is nothing more than accounting cost centers that exploits whatever news category that brings in the most revenue. They fill all remaining space with ‘feel good fluff’ stories to get you to turn to them as your only news source. All with the underlying goal of pushing their advertisers products. If you can find alternative news sources that you can trust hang on to them and support them. The reason we don’t see the no-nonsense, hard-boiled, investigative reporter of yesteryear is because there are not enough people demanding them. Information brokers decide what we should hear, we need to tell them what is import

POPSLawmaker wants to blur Google Earth First of all, don’t try to pass a law based on what a foreign nation does. Secondly, this law is stupid because ‘blurred images’ would be a red flag showing where the ‘target’ buildings are. Thirdly, IF anyone wants to target these buildings they most certainly would have intelligence on the ground verifying the location and detail anyway making this ‘exercise in bill writing’ superfluous. Why do we have to suffer legislators writing ‘busy work’ laws just so they can pat themselves on the back so they can say “public safety is my No. 1 job”? Any bombings and/or security problems in the past were not done with the help of Google Earth there is no reason to believe that Google Earth will make it easier in the future. What’s your opinion?

POPSMore than peanuts The author goes on to demand more regulation to protect our food safety. More regulation will not help. The root of the problem compares with the revolving door justice given to drunken drivers as they go through the legal system. They are continually allowed back on our roads until someone finally is killed due to their reckless irresponsibility. I think the last judge who set them free should be held responsible just as the bar tender who gave them the last drink is. The FDA allowed PCA to continue shipping salmonella-tainted product 12 times in 2007 and 2008. PCA is the drunk driver in this case. Why do we drag our feet on these blatant violations and then call for more of the same type of legislation that won’t get enforced. We do not need more regulation what we need is someone with the intestinal fortitude to punish these immoral characters for cocking a loading gun and aiming it at the general public.

POPSUtility cutoffs fuel carbon monoxide poisonings In Iowa some genius determined that as long as it is 20 degrees or above it's OK to shut down the gas or electricity. Evidently in this state natural laws such as freezing occurring at 32 don't apply. Christ most people won't even leave their dogs outside at 20 degrees.

POPSBush sneaks laws to undermine Obama Public health and safety be damned. Bush is paying back industry leaders for their support during his terms and he is still "leaving office with a clear conscience:. One rule will make it easier for coal companies to dump debris from strip mining into valleys and streams. Another will allow power companies to build coal-fired power stations nearer to national parks. Another will allow coal-fired stations to increase their emissions without installing new anti-pollution equipment. One lengthens the number of hours that truck drivers can drive without rest Another surrenders government control of rerouting the rail transport of hazardous materials around densely populated areas and gives it to the rail companies. A common theme is shifting regulation of industry from government to the industries themselves, essentially promoting self-regulation. And we have all seen how well that worked with the banking industry.

POPSGovt Pays Millions For Unapproved Drugs That unapproved prescription drugs can be sold in the United States surprises even doctors and pharmacists. But the FDA estimates they account for 2 percent of all prescriptions filled by U.S. pharmacies, about 72 million scripts a year. Private insurance plans also cover them. Sometimes, the medications do not help patients. In other cases, the FDA says, they have made people sicker, maybe even killed them. In most cases, doctors, pharmacists and patients are not aware the drugs are unapproved. "We as Americans have a belief that all the prescription drugs that are available to us have been reviewed and approved by the FDA," said Manolakis, the pharmacist. "I think the presence of these drugs shows we have a false sense of security."

POPSWhat Palin Did I don't get why news agencies are confused. She violated the ethics laws by trying to get the trooper fired. She didn't violate anything by firing the Commissioner of Public Safety. How hard is that? She legally violated Alaska's Executive Branch Ethics Act.

POPS Cops block traffic to stop erasable chalking event This is the law, been on the books for a while. It doesn't say "chalk" anywhere. They've gone and used it to make sidewalk chalk a crime. Oh, excuse me.... an infraction. MC 9.20.010 UNAUTHORIZED - AUTHORITY. No person shall paint, write or otherwise place or affix upon any public curb or sidewalk in the city, any advertisements of any kind or character whatsoever, or any signs, marks, or paint, other than official traffic signs, marks or paint placed thereon in accordance with law, except as hereinafter provided. The director of public works may authorize, in writing, the painting, placing, or affixing of house numbers, pedestrian safety signs, or other markings serving a public interest. POPSPolice Threaten to Seize Bikes From Riders w/o Helmets
What! Is this America? Oh the tyranny of the ever growing Nanny & Security State! Talk about something that "threatens our way of life"--it is government that is doing it! How many grew up riding bikes without helmets, safely, and loved it that way! In essence: "We are with the government, but will act like your parent instead, and make rules for you to obey or you will lose even your bike riding privileges". This, seat belt laws, ATV laws, even radical drug laws, etc. represent a liberty-killing totalitarianism by government that thinks it can protect people from themselves. This is over the top! Seriously, look how even the newspaper portrays this new sin in New England (birthplace of liberty), like it's a scandal! Yesterday, a teenage boy was spotted pedaling near downtown without a helmet, his blond locks fluttering. Oh, what a wicked boy! Meanwhile real sins and social crimes are treated like nothing, while they destroy families, marriages,

POPSNeeding it in more states It happened to me while waiting for the bus because I don't drive a truck jumps the curb and nearly misses me, why because he was on the his cell and try to look at a map and now the surfing around for email, fav songs or just twittering so you tell me?

POPSThe Peaceful Revolution in Farmers’ Markets Local decision-makers maintain barriers by refusing to alter the Vancouver city bylaw that makes it illegal for anyone to sell fresh fruit and vegetables outdoors without an annual “special event” permit. Farmers’ markets are denied the same five-year space allocations granted to community gardens located on parklands, based on the argument of discouraging flea markets and illegal sales. This lack of longer-term security for farmers’ markets reduces the willingness of farmers to participate and ultimately reduces access to local foods for consumers.

POPSAre People's Individual Rights Going Up In Smoke As a former smoker, I know what it feels like to be made to feel like a pariah for smoking. I have spent many a lonely moment on cold patios or street corners. I have become at this point very much a believer that smoking is a public health issue. However, the key word here is "public." What people do in the privacy of their own homes is sacrosanct and the government should have no say in those matters. If a person rents an apartment or home where smokers used to reside, just air the place out and have it cleaned. If that is not enough, that search a bit harder to find accommodations that was previously occupied by non-smokers. But please, keep the government out of our homes.

POPSThe FDA...part 2...a must read! This is part two of this incredible story. It contains the plan being put into effect by the FDA and our government to install chips in all medical patients that will contain our life history...starting at birth!
