This time, police arrested six protesters and one journalist. The journalist, Cheryl Biren, wasn't with the protesters but was picked out of the crowd, apparently because of her professional camera. Days prior to this long-planned and publicly announced protest, the Army preemptively announced that it would likely close the AEC and not open any others in shopping malls, as had been planned. The reason? Are you ready to hear this? By their own admission, the Army doesn't need any more recruits because the bad economy has driven up recruitment significantly.

At least two protesters were injured," it quoted a witness as saying. 12.02pm: Al Jazeera's Alireza Ronaghi, reporting from Tehran, said the security forces were out in force, attempting to keep opposition demonstrators away from Tehran University where Ahmadinejad was speaking earlier. "I didn't expect the protests to be as big," he said Another video appears to confirm that thousands have been involved in the protests today. It also seems to show attempts to prevent filming taking place. 12.57pm: NBC has released more of its interview with Ahmadinejad. In the latest segment, he defended the detention of three Americans, who have been held for more than seven weeks. They "trampled the law, and in accordance with the laws, they need to be punished," he said. The full interview will be broadcast on Sunday.

Maurice Schwenkler wore a shirt over his face, a hooded sweat shirt and latex gloves before he and another man fled the scene on bicycles, police said. Schwenkler was apprehended after a short chase. The other suspect remains at large. While Schwenkler does not appear in the state’s voter registration database, a person by that name in November 2008 received $500 from a political 527 committee called Colorado Citizens Coalition for “communications,” according to campaign finance disclosures. The accountant for the 527 appears to be the same woman who handles the books for many other Democratic-leaning political committees.

They were cuffed and arrested. And the right wing was OUTRAGED and the disrespect shown to the president. What are we to make of the armed "patriots" showing up to town halls where the President is speaking, holding signs calling for the "Tree of Liberty" to be washing " with the blood of patriots and tyrants ? During a health care town hall in Portsmouth, N.H., last week, a man stood outside with a pistol strapped to his leg. Phoenix police say the people with guns, including the man with the rifle, don't need permits. No crimes were committed, and no one was arrested. The man with the rifle told The Arizona Republic he was carrying the weapon because he could, adding that he still has some freedoms in Arizona.

Chevron has the mindset that they have the power to do anything they want without regard to how they poison people and the environment. She said she would take the issue all the way to Sudan's constitutional court if necessary, but that if the court rules against her and orders the flogging, she was ready "to receive (even) 40,000 lashes." Hussein wore the same clothes Tuesday she wore when arrested, including the dark-colored pants that authorities found offensive. Although she was required to wear the same outfit to court so the judge and others could see the clothing, Hussein said she's been wearing it every day to highlight her case.

Estimating how many people actually gathered in Tehran is almost impossible. What can be safely asserted, from eyewitness accounts and examination of videos, is that the numbers were more than 35,000 - that's including all the protesters and some pedestrians who joined them.
