What most data entry jobs have in common is that you are plugging data into some sort of system, and the idea is you will be paid money for your efforts. This business proposition is extremely enticing. Who wouldn't want to work from home typing data? But like all moneymaking methods and systems, you need navigate through the crap and hype to get to any good opportunities.

Prop 8 lawyer admits he doesn't know how same-sex marriage would threaten opposite-sex marriage
Lexica
by Lexica  10-16-2009    3
More: Walker pressed on, asking again for specific "adverse consequences" that could follow expanding marriage to include same-sex couples. Cooper cited a study from the Netherlands, where gay marriage is legal, showing that straight couples were increasingly opting to become domestic partners instead of getting married. "Has that been harmful to children in the Netherlands? What is the adverse effect?" Walker asked. Cooper said he did not have the facts at hand. "But it is not self-evident that there is no chance of any harm, and the people of California are entitled not to take the risk," he said. "Since when do Constitutional rights rest on the proof of no harm?" Walker parried, adding the First Amendment right to free speech protects activities that many find offensive, "but we tolerate those in a free society."

Forget About Gay Marriage...Apparently, We Still Haven't Settled Inter-racial Marriage
ericgyoung
by ericgyoung  10-16-2009
On the marriage front, the actions of the judiciary this past week were a mixed bag. In San Francisco, U.S. Dist. Judge Vaughn Walker refused to dismiss a challenge by marriage rights proponents to California's Prop 8, which limits marriage in the state to a union between a man and a woman. This came as welcome news to California's marriage law proponents whose state law challenges to Prop. 8 proved unsuccessful before the California Supreme Court. Ironically, on the very page where this story was reported online, a link appeared, stating that an interracial couple was denied a marriage license in LA. Both articles are worth reading, but the article about the LA case contains quotes by the judge who denied the marriage license. These quotes are shocking in their narrow-mindedness and reek of the same bigotry that the U.S. Supreme Court supposedly put to rest when it outlawed bans against interracial marriage in Loving v. Virginia. I am dismayed by the ability of the

Multiplying by Fractions: Gov't Stimulus trying to raise the GDP
rcerf
by rcerf  10-9-2009
Prof. Barro of Harvard has written an article in the WSJ on the multiplier effect, or lack there of. Bottom line is that government stimulating spending will likely raise the GDP by less than the increase in government spending. Even without a multiplier larger than 1, government spending could be the least costly way of arresting the economic fall. I have issues with how this stimulus seems to be re-inflating the bubble that got us here in the first place.

Was Joe Wilson Right? Free Health Care for Illegal Aliens!
merrie

and that every professor of constitutional law knows about , called Plyler vs. Doe (1982), the Court ordered Texas to make the same education available to illegal immigrants as it does to citizens. In so doing, the Court held that: (a) the Constitution protects “persons” ; and (b) “persons” are citizens as well as strangers, people born here and people who end up here, people here lawfully and people here unlawfully; and (c) in the area of social services, whatever benefits the government makes available to the general public cannot be kept away from a class of persons based on their immigration status or that of their parents. It is because of this ruling that Proposition 187 in California, which attempted to do via a referendum what Texas attempted to do via legislation, was invalidated. It is clear from the broad language in the Plyler case that providing an education is in the same class of social benefits as providing health care.

Jeff Galloway: Benefits of running twice a day
Lexica
by Lexica  10-8-2009
More: Two-a-Day Principles. If you try two-a-days, keep these seven guidelines in mind: 1. Separate your workouts by at least 2 hours; 4 hours is even better. 2. Be sure your first run of the day is very easy. Save any speed sessions for later in the day. 3. Don't divide your long run into two shorter runs. Continue to do your long run all at once-that's what makes it a long run. 4. Warm up for your second run of the day, as you did for your first. 5. If you're training for a race, at the end of your morning run do three to six accelerations of 50 to 100 meters each (walk or jog 100 meters in between to recover). Run them at your race pace. 6. Eat breakfast (or a high-carbohydrate snack) within 30 minutes of finishing your morning run. 7. Increase your mileage by no more than 1 mile per run. If you increase your weekly mileage more than 3 weeks in a row, don't raise your total by more than 10 percent a week.

Judge to Prop. 8 backers: Hand over your papers
Lexica
by Lexica  10-5-2009    1
More: Although "voters cannot be asked to explain their votes," Walker said, a ballot measure's authors and strategists can be scrutinized to see what their motives were. He cited a magazine article last year by the heads of the public relations firm that managed the Prop. 8 campaign in which they discussed their strategy, including plans to show how advocates of same-sex marriage would indoctrinate schoolchildren. Walker said the article undermined the campaign's insistence that its strategy discussions were confidential.

The Asshole Behind Prop 8: The Bishop of Oakland, CA
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  8-29-2009    3
We know all this because as homosexuals and their supporters were wondering how this all came about, Cordileone gloated about his work in an interview with an obscure Catholic radio network. He bragged about how gay men and lesbians never saw him coming & called gay marriage a Satanic plot by "the Evil One" to destroy morality in the modern world. Now, Cordileone's work has been rewarded, and the Vatican has made him the most important religious figure in the East Bay. Alameda County is one of the most liberal and gay-friendly parts of the world; it arguably has the most lesbian residents in the United States, & voters here rejected Proposition 8 by almost 62 percent. & the man who leads some 400,000 Catholics from his new Lake Merritt cathedral... just got done taking the right to marry from every gay man and woman in the East Bay. Dear Bishop Sal: fuck you. Quite sincerely, A married, het Oaklander.
