Military Ammunition Policy Rescinded ~ GOOD
merrie
by merrie  3-20-2009
Special acknowledgment should go to Gary Marbut of Montana Shooting Sports Association, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, and "The Shootist," Gordon Hutchinson. They brought this story to our attention and followed up on it throughout. It should also be noted that Senators Max Baucus and John Tester were instrumental in obtaining this reversal. NRA-ILA has posted the *senators' letter to the Defense Logistics Agency and the DLA determination that the "Agency has determined the cartridge cases could be appropriately placed in a category of government property allowing for their release for sale." http://www.nraila.org/media/PDFs/DLA.MilitaryBrass.pdf * Between that and your spreading the word like...like a grassfire, enough attention was given to this to get results. That they happened so quickly is impressive, and ought to prime us for engaging in the next challenge--and the ones after that.

Barack Obama's Savior-Based Economy
merrie
by merrie  2-11-2009
GOP Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina said, "We're moving precipitously close to what I would call a savior-based economy." Tellingly, Obama chose Ft. Myers to drum up support for his wealth redistributionism. The area has been one of the hardest hit by foreclosures, as the president was quick to point out. But many of those homes are second or third homes and investment properties. And low housing prices are not a catastrophe for everyone. They've created opportunities for Americans who haven't been able to buy in an artificially inflated market. The median sales price of a home in the Ft. Myers area fell 50 percent to $106,900, from $215,200 in December 2007. Bargain-priced home sales are up 146 percent from a year ago. It's sacrilegious to say it in the Age of Obama, but it needs to be said: Home ownership is not an entitlement. Credit is not a civil right. Your property-value preservation is not my problem. Can I get an "Amen!"? michelle malkin

Environmental Activists Are Trying To Exploit Wall Street Bailout Bill

.......energy or natural resource development projects that the Greens oppose. Once the U.S. Government owns the securities (and, thereby, the property) an omnipotent Paulson could essentially take the land out of circulation by "preserving" it as public land. He could even claim — through the economic device of "contingent valuation" — that the acquired land has more value as pristine public land than as, say, an energy or logging project. Contingent valuation uses opinion surveys to value intangible assets for which there is no market, such as scenic views and crystal-clear air. Respondents are asked hypothetical questions like, "How much would you pay to preserve a seashore view from oil drilling?" or "How much is it worth to keep a forest pristine and un-logged?" Though the whole process is pretend — the respondents know they won't actually spend any of their own money for this preservation — the government uses the method to establish monetary values of preserved la

‘Kelo’ Property Rights Protections Gutted From Housing Bill
merrie
by merrie  8-6-2008    1
That 5-4 decision in 2005 allowed states and localities to use eminent domain for the benefit of private parties, so long the land confication served a “public purpose.” ome states have passed laws protecting property owners by barring eminent domain solely for economic development purposes. But for the many states that still allow this practice, the federal government is often the source of funds for the projects that result in the use of eminent domain. To their credit, the drafters of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, which passed the Senate on July 11, at least recognized this danger of throwing billions in construction grants to state and local goverments. So they put in a clause stating, “No funds under this title may be used in conjunction with property taken by eminent domain, unless eminent domain is employed for a public use.”
