All said mammograms were still important — after all, breast cancer kills 40,000 women a year in this country — but they differed about who really needed them and how often. All agreed that research was badly needed to figure out how to tell dangerous tumors from the so-called indolent ones… Dr. Formenti said the emphasis on screening by groups like the cancer society might have misled the public into thinking that screening could prevent cancer. “It’s a giant misconception,” she said. “…I have to confess that I’m happy if the public gets offended or infuriated” by the debate…"I want taxpayers to say: ‘You have no clarity. http://Odenwald.Wochenschau.TV | Am Wochenende feierte in den Erbacher Lichtspielen der Film „Wegen einer Wette“ der beiden Odenwälder Filmemacher Simon Schwöbel und Christoph Comes seine Premiere. Das Werk wurde mit lang anhaltendem Applaus belohnt. Die Idee für die Story des Films entwickelten der 23 Jahre alte Schwöbel und sein drei Jahre älterer Freund Comes bereits in ihrer Schulzeit am Michelstädter Gymnasium. Die beiden Amateurfilmer schrieben auch das Drehbuch selbst. Realisiert wurde der Film dann 2008 und 2009 mit mehr als 50 Odenwälder Laienschauspielern aus dem Bekanntenkreis. Die Drehorte lagen überwiegend im Odenwaldkreis und in Saarbrücken. Die Hauptfigur des Streifens ist ein gewisser Simon, der sich wegen einer Wette mit einer jungen Frau in die Zwangslage gebracht hat, einen Kinofilm drehen zu müssen. At times this is a necessity because police officers often find themselves in situations where a high degree of assertiveness is all that stands between them and losing control of a situation. I also know from personal experience that if police officers are not constantly reminded of the dangers of crossing the line through their use of their authority, then abuse of their power is a virtual certainty. Further, as with any minority (and police are a minority), associates tend to stick together. That police will back up one another, even when their fellow officers are wrong, is as dependable as sunrise.

Here doctors refused to take any action to save her life because they said she had drawn up a so called living will in which she had expressed the wish to die and claimed to be '100 per cent aware of the consequences.' It has been reported that, having taken legal advice, the consultant renal physician Dr Alexander Heaton took the view that she was mentally capable of reaching this decision and therefore he had to respect her wishes. He even told an inquest into Miss Wooltorton's death that he feared he might be charged with assault if he tried to intervene. The central principle of the Hippocratic Oath is 'do no harm'. I would argue that, by allowing a patient to commit suicide and taking no steps to prevent her death, a doctor has contravened that oath.
