Adkisson made statements that because he could not get to the leaders of the liberal movement that he would then target those that had voted them into office. Adkisson stated that he had held these beliefs for about the last ten years. Adkisson's manifesto also cited the inability to find a job, and that his food stamps were being cut. His manifesto stated that he intended to keep shooting until police arrived and expected to be killed by police. Adkisson had a waist satchel with more ammunition, totaling 76 shells of #4 shot. The following books were found in Adkisson's home during a police search: # Liberalism is a Mental Disorder by radio talk show host Michael Savage # Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty over Liberalism by talk show host Sean Hannity # The O'Reilly Factor: The Good, the Bad, and the Completely Ridiculous in American Life by television talk show host Bill O'Reilly In his manifesto, Adkisson also included the Democratic members of the House and Senate.

The Victims of Fort Hood
merrie
by merrie  11-8-2009    1
According to an officer who served with him at Walter Reed Hospital, Hasan spoke approvingly of the shooting of Army recruiters this past summer by a Muslim convert in Little Rock, Arkansas. Authorities also investigated Hasan as long as six months ago for internet postings discussing suicide bombings and other attacks, though they have not yet determined definitively if he was the author of those posts. One of those posts was a blog entry that deified suicide bombers as being similar to soldiers who throw themselves on hand grenades in order to save the lives of their fellow soldiers. A cousin, Nader Hasan, builds a picture of the shooter as a bullied Muslim who was a good person who did not even like weapons, was conflicted about his military service, and was against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But postings that are thought to be Major Hasan’s don’t match the portrait of a soldier who was conflicted. They present us with a picture of someone who housed beliefs that

LaVena Johnson: Raped and Murdered on a Military Base in Iraq
foxyarse
by foxyarse  10-9-2009
If she had of being white this story would have got a lot more coverage Questions were raised when LaVena’s family viewed her body. There were suspicious bruises, and while the military claimed that this right-handed soldier had shot herself in the head with an M-16 rifle, the gunshot wound was on the left side of her head. But the truth began to make itself known when the family received the autopsy report and photos they requested under the Freedom of Information Act: The 5-foot-tall, 100-pound woman had been struck in the face with a blunt instrument, probably a weapon. Her nose had been broken, and her teeth knocked backwards. There were bruises, teeth marks and scratches on the upper part of her body. Her back and right hand had been doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire. Her genital area was bruised and lacerated, and lye had been poured into her vagina. The debris found on her person suggested her body had been dragged. And despite all this mutilation, she was

Inter-Risk Company, US-Contracted Security Firm, Raided By Pakistani Police
ratilfar
by ratilfar  9-19-2009
The U.S. says there is no truth in the reports, but they have resonated with the many Pakistanis familiar with allegations that Blackwater employees were involved in unprovoked killings of Iraqi civilians. Police official Rana Akram said that two Inter-Risk employees were arrested and being questioned. He said authorities were also seeking the company's owner, a retired Pakistani army captain. Reporters were shown the weapons – 61 assault rifles and nine pistols – that were seized by dozens of police from the sites in pre-dawn raids in the capital, Islamabad.

Brown rocked as aide quits over war
cakebelly
by cakebelly  9-4-2009    1
more (at source): His criticism – which follows protests from military commanders over the lack of support for British forces in Afghanistan – carries extra weight given his army background and his role as Mr Ainsworth's parliamentary aide. Mr Joyce quit as two more British soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, bringing the number of UK deaths to 212. Forty-one British troops died in July and August alone, and polls have shown a slump in public support for involvement in Afghanistan. The timing of the resignation is particularly damaging to Mr Brown, who in a speech today was due to argue that the case for military action is as compelling as ever because three-quarters of terrorist attacks are orchestrated from the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. But in a scathing letter to the Prime Minister last night, Mr Joyce directly contradicted him. He wrote: "I do not think the public will accept for much longer that our losses can be justified by simply referring to the risk of

General Westmorland's Ghost Asks for near 500,000 troops in Afghanistan
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  8-5-2009
Maybe it is true that Americans are as blind as some in Think Tanks, the Military and some elements in the news media think. I hope not. But it could take 3,000-5,000 deaths of US Troops and no resolution to lack of leadership and sustained improvement in Afghanistan. In Iraq, they at least had some experience with actually having control over administering their nation. So, regardless of how well democracy turns out there, Iraq is unlikely to disintegrate. There has been an Afghanistan on the map for centuries but there has never really been any history or experience of sustained administrative control over the state. Control over Kabul and a few of the major cities yes but most of the people and land have only experience with tribal and war lord governance. Traditionally, they only unify to fight outsiders (the Russians and US/NATO/Britain of late), or cultural threats to traditional culture and power relationships (Westernization/Taliban). Declare victory after the electio

U.N. Asks for Investigation of U.S. Mercenaries
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  8-4-2009
The use of so-called "private security contractors," -- i.e. mercenaries by the USA for extraordinary rendition (and torture) is now a U.N. issue. Such private armies, btw, are a real and very dnagerous sign of growing fascism. The founder of Blackwater, one of the largest, has just been implicated in court of murder, murder of some folks who were going to expose some of Blackwater's war crimes. Blackwater, btw, was forbidden to be in Iraq anymore...so they changed their name and now do their thing in Afghanistan. It's all sick and ugly. If you count the mercenaries the USA actually has about TWICE as many forces in Iraq, 300,000 or more. Plus, since they are not "official army," it's easier for them to get away with murder...being beyond direct military or Iraqi control.

disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  8-4-2009
Britain seems to be taking George Orwell’s depiction of a future nanny state to heart. That book, 1984, was supposed to be taken as a warning of what might happen, not a blueprint. The apparent intended goal of reshaping ‘problem’ families into more socially acceptable behavior by constantly monitoring them is absurd. Yes, children do need a more stable home life in order to become more responsible citizens, but thinking that by simply monitoring their every move and having them sign a “behavior contract” is ridiculous and indicates a ‘controlling’ mentality that is poisonous to a free society.

In parallel, satellite imagery captured from southern Sudan showed tracked vehicles, parked under camouflage, at a Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) compound northeast of Juba, the capital of South Sudan. Jane’s observed that SPLA attempts to conceal the location “were deliberate and masterful, but dimensional analysis, tracked-vehicle scarring and the staging of three vehicles in a tactical perimeter established the concealed vehicles as tanks.” All told, Jane’s estimates that South Sudan has ordered around 100 main battle tanks. Observers have worried that an arms race is now under way between the Khartoum government and the government of South Sudan. A comprehensive peace deal was reached in 2005 after two decades of civil war, but that agreement has recently frayed. A referendum in 2011 opens the possibility that South Sudan may secede

Manuel Zelaya Arrested: Honduras President Detained By Soldiers

Zelaya was arrested shortly before polls were to open in a referendum on whether to change the constitution. The Supreme Court ruled the referendum illegal and everyone from Congress to members of his own party opposed it. Critics said Zelaya wanted to remove limits to his re-election. It was not immediately clear who was running the government. Tanks rolled through the streets and hundreds of soldiers with riot shields surrounded the presidential palace in the capital, Tegucigalpa.

Army Recruiter Killed - Where’s Obama Outrage?
merrie
by merrie  6-3-2009    9
Where is the liberal left? This story of the murder of a soldier has conveniently disappeared from the front page of mainstream news media while the Dr. Tiller killing remains front and center. The Doctor’s murder is being used by liberals to fuel their outrage and desire in conjuring up a story of domestic terrorism and having it spun around blaming political commentary host Bill O’Reilly? Why no outrage when a Muslim man, upset with the military, specifically targets a military recruiting center and kills a U.S. soldier? Judging from the White House comments or lack of comments from these two criminal acts what are we to conclude? It would appear that the death of an abortion doctor performing thousands of life-ending procedures carries more political importance than the death of a soldier assisting with recruiting young Americans to defend freedom and liberty.
