When That Gadget You Love Fails To Perform - Do You "Fix It" Or "Forget It"
ericgyoung
by ericgyoung  11-17-2009
If you are in a virtual business setting like me, or an industry that is reliant on a wide variety of electronic gadgets (like which ones aren't these days?), then you have probably already faced the vexing question of whether to "fix it, or forget it" when that "I can't live without it" gadget suddenly stops performing the way it promised. Consumer Reports' annual "Electronics Buying Guide" is out and can help you make that decision with a handy "Repair or Replace Timelines" Chart detailing which items you should repair and which you should replace.

U.S. Health Insurance Price Fixing!
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-15-2009    3
Like the bank scams on Wall St. and elsewhere much of it happen when lawmakers, like George Bush especially, removed rules and regulations that allowed banks to sell products that had no real value or sell default insurance when they didn't have the cash to pay off. Like a lot of politics it's not Left vs. Right -- it's the SuperRich exploiting the taxpayers and middle classes and getting special advantages for themselves. Now this has been revealed in the U.S. Health Care Insurance business. It's been revealed --- after months and months of discussion (and previous years of efforts) that this business has an exemption from laws about price fixing and other business collusions.! Dang! It took us this long to find out! It's been like this for all our lifetime! (most of us). They make the biggest bucks --- they make the greatest profit of any USA business -- and they have and keep this exemption to fair play rules that would require fair play competition! We need to restore f

Fixing the Health-Care System

“Too-little insurance means that there are people who are uninsured, and the reasons are that some people truly cannot afford it. Other people have the income – some 9 million plus have $75,000 a year annual income or greater -- but they choose not to buy health insurance, even though other people in the same circumstances are getting health insurance.”

A Liberty Issue by Mark Steyn
merrie
by merrie  8-2-2009    1
Why doesn’t Ottawa introduce a National Doughnut Licensing Agency? You’d still see your general dispenser for simple procedures like a lightly sugared cruller, but he’d refer you to a specialist if you needed, say, a maple-frosted custard " and it would only be a six-month wait, at the end of which you’d receive a stale cinnamon roll. Under government regulation, eventually every doughnut would be all hole and no doughnut, and the problem would be solved. Even if the hole costs $1.6 trillion. How did the health-care debate decay to the point where we think it entirely natural for the central government to fix a collective figure for what 300 million freeborn citizens ought to be spending on something as basic to individual liberty as their own bodies? That’s the argument that needs to be won. And, if you think I’m being frivolous in positing bureaucratic regulation of doughnuts and vacations, consider that under the all-purpose umbrellas of “health” and “the environment,”

say that 'he who owns the gold makes the rules'.
haipylai
by haipylai  1-22-2009
Why would anyone want to manipulate the gold price? Well, despite the fact that is is of barely any industrial use, gold is a highly political metal and a runaway gold price – which, by the way, we will eventually see, I am sure – tells you 'something is rotten in the state of Denmark'. If people are rushing to buy gold, it shows they do not trust the government to maintain the value of paper currency. So the aim of the manipulators, the theory goes, is to devalue gold and preserve the status of unbacked government currencies such as the dollar. And certainly, the remarkable trading pattern of the London PM and AM fix adds more weight to the theory that the West is selling gold during Comex opening hours, possibly to suppress the price. In September 1919 when the gold price was £4 18/9d per ounce. It's now more than £600. And the reception to the latest banking bail-out suggests it won't stop falling any time soon. there's no evidence that bear market is anywhere near its end.

Pelosi To President Bush On Gas Prices
merrie
by merrie  4-23-2008
Your support is the more critical as your Administration has failed to persuade OPEC to increase their oil production, despite your influence with OPEC nations. The New Direction Congress is providing forward-looking leadership that will fuel America’s energy future, save Americans’ money, create good jobs, improve our national security, and preserve our planet for our children. This critical issue needs Presidential leadership and I urge you to please join us to address the skyrocketing price at the pump. best regards, NANCY PELOSI House GOP challenges Pelosi for gas price plan House Republican leaders on Tuesday challenged Nancy Pelosi to release a plan to lower gas prices that they say Democrats touted when they were in the minority. (Press release dated April 24, 2006, Pelosi said, “Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.....) http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/house-gop-challenges-pelosi-for-gas-price-plan-2008-04-22.html

The fact that OPEC engages in price fixing is beyond dispute, but thinking the US can realistically sue these states? Yeah, there is nothing important -- like an immigration bill -- pending in Congress that would be a be a better use of our reps time, right?
