POPSHow Out of Touch Is This White House? Two possible explanations: (1) Gibbsy was trying to say something else and it came out very wrong; (2) Gibbsy was in a deep, deep coma for much of the past decade. Either way, maybe "White House press secretary" isn't the optimal line of work for him. I'm stammering at the moment myself from sheer frustration at deciding where to begin to answer him, but thankfully has pulled the necessary links together to do the job.

POPSREALLY, ALLYSON I bet Rep.Schwartz would not know what unaffordable and unsustainable even means. Sorry, I have to run, my car has a flat so I have to change the engine. Do everyone a favor if you have to say something stupid, please don't after all we do not need to be reminded.

POPSOakland Mayor Ron Dellums needs to explain tax mess or resign More: The debt owed to this city by Dellums is incalculable and there is nothing but pride - or arrogance - standing between him and a full public disclosure of the facts surrounding his tax problem. Anything short of that constitutes unacceptable behavior by a public official and violates the public contract between an elected official and the constituency the office serves. I tried to reach the mayor for comment - but he declined to speak with me, his press secretary Paul Rose told me. No one has asked Dellums to disclose anything that any other politician in the same set of circumstances wouldn't be asked to explain. If he cannot provide a public explanation for a controversy that has become another national embarrassment for this city, it's difficult to see how continuing in his current position is going to be good for anyone - either him or Oakland's citizens.

POPSThe Record is Clear' - Dick Cheney is Not Credible For certain, Cheney is not the only one pressing Obama to hurry his Afghanistan strategy. The Neo-Conservatives have taken to every media outlet that will have them; and, if they're not talking about Afghanistan, they're second guessing the president's diplomacy with Iran, Russia, etc... For reasons I find incomprehensible, media outlets -- and not just Fox News, mind you -- treat them as if their credibility isn't completely lacking when it comes to matters of national security. That ship sailed months, if not years before Obama's election. Consider the scathing rebuke of Cheney issued by Gen. Paul Eaton (Ret.), senior adviser for the National Security Network:

POPSDick Cheney's losing his old black magic It's great to watch people step up to smack Cheney down. Retired Gen. Paul Eaton blasted back today, and I couldn't say it any better: "The record is clear: Dick Cheney and the Bush administration were incompetent war fighters. They ignored Afghanistan for 7 years with a crude approach to counter-insurgency warfare best illustrated by: 1. Deny it. 2. Ignore it. 3. Bomb it. While our intelligence agencies called the region the greatest threat to America, the Bush White House under-resourced our military efforts, shifted attention to Iraq, and failed to bring to justice the masterminds of September 11. "The only time Cheney and his cabal of foreign policy 'experts' have anything to say is when they feel compelled to protect this failed legacy. While President Obama is tasked with cleaning up the considerable mess they left behind, they continue to defend torture or rewrite a legacy of indifference on Afghanistan. …

POPSPresident Ihaveano Dinnajaket of Iran wins Nobel War Prize Dinnajaket's press secretary and minister for warmongering woke him with the news before dawn, because his wife Dawn sleeps in until 12.00, and the president felt "humbled", which is the name for his pet dog, a Western infidel called Derek, by the award, a senior administration official said. When informed by the Iranian Records Agency (IRA) that many people around the world and parts of Grimsby were stunned by the announcement, Dinnajaket's senior adviser, Ahmed Olunacy replied "Let's bomb Denmark." Not the first 100% lunatic to hold his country's highest office, Dinnajaket has called for world armament and is working to restart the stalled Cadilac in his car park.

POPSBarack Obama: "Yes, I hunted and killed Bigfoot!"
To sum things up for the media, his press secretary said, "Look, Barack Obama is for everything this week!" When quiried abot the actual killing of the elusive Bigfoot and where the actual body was, Mr. Obama claims he really didn't 'kill' the Yeti, but wounded him in the arm. He tearfuly expressed his sorrow for wounding the beast as a camera crew from PETA caught the tearful confession. When the animal extremist crew left, Obama turned his attention to the reporters who were setting up to record his hunting statements. Reporters pressed him for more details about his hunting exploits. Questions ranged from..."Where did you hunt in Chicago?" to... "What caliber bullets he used in his shotgun?" Mr. Obama stumbled on the last question and had to ask an aide "what a shotgun was". The aide hastily pulled out a Bass-Pro hunting catalog flyer and showed him a picture of a kid's Daisy BB gun, which the smiling Barack 'Barry' Obama confidently pointed to as the type of weapon he s

POPSObama Wins Nobel Peace Prize Obama is only the third U.S. President to win the Nobel Peace Prize while still in office. Theodore Roosevelt won it in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Former President Jimmy Carter also won the prize in 2002, adds Knoller, but that was more than two decades after he left office

POPSObama Talks Afghanistan and Counterterrorism, Acorn Chief Addresses Scrutiny, Feingold Examines ‘Czars’ Antiterrorist: Obama will also make his first public visit to the National Counterterrorism Center today where he will deliver remarks. It’s the first terrorism-related event for the president since the arrest of terror suspect Najibullah Zazi last month in Denver. Obama’s remarks come a day after Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Director Robert Mueller, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stressed the importance of cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies to stop terrorism at a Monday law enforcement conference in Denver.

POPS Helen's Got Questions! "Is he going to fight for it or not?" Thomas snapped. "We're going to work to get choice and competition into health-care reform" was Gibbs's vague response. Thomas took that as a no. "You're not going to get it," she advised. "Then why do you keep asking me?" Gibbs inquired. "Because I want your conscience to bother you," Thomas replied. The room erupted; Gibbs reddened. Actually, conscience isn't the problem for Gibbs and his boss; it's spine. Thomas's question got at an Obama administration trait that is puzzling opponents and demoralizing supporters: Why isn't the president more decisive and forceful? On many of the most pressing issues -- the public option in health reform, troop levels in Afghanistan, sanctions against Iran -- the administration has hewed to hemming and hawing. On Pennsylvania Avenue outside the White House on Thursday, environmental activists were demanding to know why Obama wouldn't, as they put it,

POPSThree Historical Lessons to Help the President Cope
continued testing its missiles designed to deliver nuclear war heads to Tel Aviv. And the health care takeover is losing momentum. These issues require hard work for a hardened politician. Most that want to be President relish these days as the chance to make a real difference for the country. Obama chooses a flight to Copenhagen. Defense Secretary Gates furthered the concern over Afghanistan on the Sunday talk shows by pointing out that leaving that basket-case of a country would allow the Taliban and Al Qaida to regroup, rearm and re-attack the American homeland. Should that occur, of course the US military would be sent back into Afghanistan to hunt bad guys " at least until the next leftist liberal was elected President. The Prez though, is reluctant to get into a war that can’t be quickly won. The President’s preferred choice may be to fight the War on Terror on the streets of American cities rather than Afghanistan. Reasoning that we wouldn’t have to pay

POPSObama Administration Frees Three More Gitmo Detainees
Al Ahmed denied almost all of the charges. "I never went to Afghanistan, ever. You have to prove how you came to the conclusion that I am a member of the Taliban," he told a military commission. The government alleged that the home in which Ali Ahmed was residing was "run by a high-ranking al Qaida operative...Several of the individuals arrested in the March 2002 raid on the guesthouse in Faisalabad, Pakistan were identified as al Qaida associates who had received training in, or fought in, Afghanistan." In May, U.S. District Court Judge Gladys Kessler found the government's case rather wanting and ordered Ahmed released. The fourth witness is believed to be Mohammed Al Qahtani -- believed to be a member of al-Qaeda who was planning on taking part in the 9/11 attacks -- though much of Kessler's ruling has been redacted. ** The Ireland deal has been in the works since at least March. POPSBeware kids, while you’re singing his praises, Obama wants to get rid of Summer vacation While I think that it is a good idea to talk about modifying the 180-day, September-June school calendar that has become as much an American tradition as fireworks on the 4th of July, I don’t quite see the need for this to become a national issue, or for the Federal Government to mandate that schools modify their calendars based on a decision made by a bureaucrat in the Department of Education. As with most things in the education field, this is a matter best left to school boards at the local and state level and to the parents of the children being educated. But then again, what the hell does Obama care about American tradition....unless he's apologizing for it....

POPSACORN Faux "Investigation" To Be Conducted By The Usual Suspects
All that’s missing are a few pimps and prostitutes for “technical expertise.” Hardest-hitting internal investigation evah More background on the panel from Karl here. They’ll have the place cleaned up in no time. Meanwhile, you’ll be glad to know that the White House has now formally deemed this seemingly endless series of videos about covering up child-sex-slave trafficking " and it is seemingly endless, per the latest hint dropped by Big Government editor Mike Flynn " to be “completely unacceptable.” Whether that means The One will sign a bill to defund the organization should it pass the House is unclear. Presumably the point of this absurd whitewash-slash-“audit” is to create enough cover for Democrats to say they deserve a second chance, which is all the more reason why it’s important for Big Government to keep the clips coming. The more there are, the more systemic this is, the more pathetic the idea of some investigative panacea becomes.

POPSACORN Plans "Internal Investigation"
Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., said he's asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to repeal a nearly $1 million grant it awarded to ACORN earlier this month. FEMA awarded $997,402 to ACORN in New Orleans on Sept. 4 as part of its Fire Prevention and Safety Grants program. The group plans to use the money to assess fire safety in the homes of low and moderate-income families and hand out smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and other fire prevention gear, ACORN's Brennan Griffin said. FEMA had no immediate comment on Bilirakis' request. The video released Monday was among several that have prompted the firing of at least four ACORN employees in Baltimore and Washington. It was created by James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles and posted on BigGovernment.com, where O'Keefe identifies himself as an activist filmmaker. In the film, O'Keefe and Giles enter an ACORN office in Brooklyn and O'Keefe can be heard stating that "we have a unique life situation" and asking . . .

POPSUS Hypocrisy Astonishes the World The exceptional “virtuous nation” does not think it is insensitive for America’s bombs to blow innocent villagers to pieces. What does the world think of the United States? The US government is like a criminal who accuses the police of his crime when he is arrested or a sociopathic abuser who blames the victim. It is a known fact that the CIA has violated US law and international law with its assassinations, kidnappings and torture. But it is not this criminal agency that will be held accountable. Instead, those who will be punished will be those moral beings who, appalled at the illegality and inhumanity of the CIA, leaked the evidence of the agency’s crimes. America uber alles! No one counts but us (and Israel). The deaths we inflict and the pain and suffering we bring to others are merely collateral damage on the bloody path to American hegemony.

POPSObama Readies Reform Specifics It's going to be a long hard ride for this President but I have seen him in action, he's tough and determined. He will get a good bill through to help the American people and bring down health-care costs. The insurance companies were unable or unwilling to do so. Now, they will be made to do it. I believe if the institutions of this country are unable or unwilling to change for the betterment of the nation, then they ought to be made to do so.

POPSVan Jones Resigns Van Jones, well-known in the environmental movement, was a civil-rights activist in California before shifting his attention to environmental and energy issues. He is known for laying out a broad vision of a green economy. Jones flatly said in an earlier statement that he did not agree with the petition's stand on the 9/11 attacks and that "it certainly does not reflect my views, now or ever." As for his other comments he made before joining Obama's team, Jones said, "If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize." Despite his apologies, Republicans demanded Jones quit. Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck repeatedly denounced Jones after a group the adviser co-founded, ColorofChange.org, led an advertising boycott against Beck's show to protest his claim that Obama is a racist.
