POPSUkranian PM Tymoshenko on political crisis I wanted, firstly, to separate clearly powers between the Government and President as the Constitution envisages and not to do so that there are three governments, six Premiers in the country and all govern and nobody exercises responsibility.

POPSThe Resentment Strategy
"What the G.O.P. is selling, in other words, is the pure politics of resentment; you’re supposed to vote Republican to stick it to an elite that thinks it’s better than you. And when Mr. Bush turned out not to be that smart after all, and his presidency crashed and burned, the angry right — the raging rajas of resentment? — became, if anything, even angrier. Humiliation will do that. That said, the experience of the years since 2000 — the memory of what happened to working Americans when faux-populist Republicans controlled the government — is still fairly fresh in voters’ minds. Furthermore, while Democrats’ supposed contempt for ordinary people is mainly a figment of Republican imagination, the G.O.P. really is the Gramm Old Party — it really does believe that the economy is just fine, and the fact that most Americans disagree just shows that we’re a nation of whiners. But the Democrats can’t afford to be complacent. Resentment, no matter how contrived, is a powerful force.

POPSWhy The Media Should Apologize To Sarah She gave a really good speech. And why go beyond that? As we all know, speeches cannot be written by others and rehearsed for days. They are true windows to the soul. Unless they are delivered by Barack Obama, that is. In which case, as Palin said Wednesday, speeches are just a “cloud of rhetoric.”

POPSWrong Woman; Wrong Message Her down-home, divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton's candidacy stood for -- and that Barack Obama's still does. I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to compete with Sen. Joe Biden's 37 years' experience. When asked last month about the vice presidency, she said, "I still can't answer that question until someone answers for me: What is it exactly that the VP does every day?" When asked about Iraq, she said, "I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq."

POPSRepublicans Play the Sexism Card "It's that damn liberal press" was the first excuse that the McCain campaign gave for the discoveries that the press and bloggers easily made after the campaign was caught failing to vet Sarah Palin. Now the new excuse targets the Obama campaign. Criticism of Palin makes one sexist. Specific criticisms don't have to be answered. They can all be dismissed by playing the sexism card. The translation: make all the criticisms go away because we can't answer them.

POPSShe is Woman.... This woman is the real deal. However, it seems strange that *they* keep comparing her to Obama instead of Biden. Biden...on the Foreign Relations Committee, has never made me feel safer because of his contributions. :~(

POPSGOP Plays the Gender Card Before you say this is just Laura Bush speaking for Laura Bush, consider this: I am appalled by the Obama campaign's attempts to belittle Governor Sarah Palin's experience. The facts are that Sarah Palin has made more executive decisions as a Mayor and Governor than Barack Obama has made in his life. Because of Hillary Clinton's historic run for the Presidency and the treatment she received, American women are more highly tuned than ever to recognize and decry sexism in all its forms. They will not tolerate sexist treatment of Governor Palin. - HP's former CEO Carly Fiorina and RNC fundraiser, quoted in RNC press release The McCain camp, who wanted everyone to freak out when Obama supposedly "played the race card," are now claiming that any criticism of Sarah Palin is sexist. The Republican Party; never one to shy away from blatant hypocrisy.
1
POPSAttacking Palin on experience, that is a laugh Does she have big foreign policy chops? Other than some foreign trade experience, no. But neither does Obama. It's amazing to me how you can complain about Palin being a heartbeat away from the presidency, when Obama would be ZERO heartbeats away from the presidency.

POPSsarah palin. the whole article pretty much echoes how i feel about her nomination. great, they nominated a women who's had nothing to do with women's rights.
1
POPSAnd the exploitation continues The only reason McCain chose her is to get female voters, which he personally couldn't care less about. Obama campaign calls her a candidate with "the thinnest foreign policy experience in history" As if Obama's foreign policy experience is any more extensive. We are so screwed.

POPSReaction To Announcement on Governor Palin The campaign has been busily preparing TV commercials to run against Mitt Romney — with aides gleefully watching hours of footage of Romney-McCain exchanges from the primary — but far little opposition research had been prepared about the Alaska governor. And aides said no commercials were ready to be immediately released, which the McCain campaign did when Mr. Biden was chosen.” There’s more at the link, including that the Obama campaign had to delay its campaign flight for more Palin prep and, as a result, McCain-Palin got a half-day of uninterrupted media time. The Obama campaign was not prepared for the Palin announcement, a choice that was unexpected but not totally off the radar. That’s not good in politics but it’s very discouraging in governing. In fact, it makes the Obama campaign sound as clueless as it often describes the Bush Administration.
6
POPSThe VP Choice that Lost the Presidency for McCain It's also a slap in the face of Democratic women voters. They don't get Hillary but they get Sarah as the first potential woman President? In fact, I can just hear Biden saying, "Sarah Palin, you are NO Hillary Clinton!"
19
POPSPalin as President of the U.S. Senate? It's VP's job: But she has never even served in a legislature! How would she possibly know how to manage America's most difficult legislative body? Let alone how she would possibly step in, if needed, for the President, in a nation still at war. Take a deep look at McCain's judgment here. What a reckless, foolishly political nomination this is for the nation! And compare her credentials to Joe Biden's . . .

POPSDems comment on Palin Pick Clearly, McCain thinks women are stupid enough to fall for his pseudo-Hillary. Comparing Palin to Hillary Clinton is like comparing a high-school freshman to a PhD grad (actually, that almost has some truth to it...)
6
POPSFrom the Mouth of a Conservative: The Palin Pick "To the extent the experience, qualifications, and national-security arguments are taken off the table, Obama wins." No kidding. That's why the Palin pick appears superficial, a desperate grab to pick up disaffected Hillary voters, and to help us forget that John McCain has been in Washington DC a long time. And while the pick temporarily distracts the US from one of the greatest speeches delivered in history of the US (Obama's last night), within 2 weeks Palin will be seen as a liability, another deer caught in the headlights like Dan Quayle. The allegation that she had a trooper fired for divorcing her sister won't help, especially since the firer said he was pressured from her to fire the trooper. That no doubt credentials her with Rove and his Rovian minions within the GOP.
