POPSObama's Wrecking Crew Charles Krauthammer Hillsdale College Professor Paul Rahe writes: Krauthammer's point is simple and unassailable. There is, he argues, an intimate connection between the foreign policy being pursued by the Obama administration and its domestic policy. The work undertaken in the domestic sphere by what I have called "Obama's wrecking crew" will, he points out, put a stop to the pattern of dynamic economic growth that made it possible for the United States to defeat Japan, contribute decisively to the defeat of Nazi Germany, contain communism, and ultimately defeat and prepare the way for the dismemberment of the Soviet Union. It will produce economic stagnation of the sort that the Europeans have suffered from for decades, and it will eventuate in a collapse of the American dollar This, as Krauthammer shows, Obama and his minions understand, and this they want -- the elimination of the foundations for American hegemony and the crippling of this country.

POPSThe Truth According To a Troofer: "America Had It Coming"
Traveling through the Middle East about six months after 9/11, I was struck by the number of Arabs, from Egypt to the Gulf, who simultaneously believed (a) the Mossad were behind the attacks and (b) it was a great victory for the Muslim world. Van Jones would seem to be an American variant of the same phenomenon: a man who believes 9/11 was (a) blowback for the actions of the US government's war machine and (b) an inside job by the US government's war machine. No wonder the left derides those boorish enough to bring this stuff up: Why, surely all sophisticated persons know these positions are little more than lifestyle accessories or fashion hemlines. One season, everyone on the catwalk is agreed 9/11 was blowback by Jihadists for Social Justice. The next, everyone is equally agreed that Bush called up the White House Steel Melting Czar and buried the whole thing under "miscellaneous" in the budget. by Mark Steyn http://corner.nationalreview.com/

POPSOMG! Who's Going To Save Us From Global Warming Now?
. . . . . really owes the White House an apology. This airbrushing was worthy of Stalin. Other NRO commenters at the link admire the assist the Politburo has gotten from the state-controlled media. The Moderate Voice : A case of poor vetting … Funny, that’s how I feel about the Obama administration, too. Aww, this is cute. Fellow-traveling Think Progress , wielding an airbrushlet: Racist right-wing conspiracy/hate campaign drives out smiling, well-intentioned, plucky environmental advocate. It’s an interesting presentation that makes no mention of you know what. Andrew Sullivan, to his credit, notices why Van was hounded out, but finds the gleefulness unseemly. Gutless wonder of a conspiracy theorist quits gutless wonder of a White House in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Labor Day weekend. Good work, Rahm. It’ll be out of the papers by Tuesday. Given that the Van Jones Truther scandal was barely covered in the first place, it’s like it never happened

POPS Happy Day! thoughts: “Ahmadinejad remains the lunatic face of Iran to the world … Ahmadinejad symbolizes the rejection of Barack Obama’s overtures … a slap in the face of the American president’s pro-Islamist policies … Ahmadinejad remains in charge of the Iranian economy, which he is progressively wrecking, thereby reducing the country’s capabilities to make mischief abroad … I dunno about that last one. Nukes vs butter debate in Iran? And terrorism is cheap, that’s why it’s so popular. But Pipes makes the point that, despite Obama’s lack of leadership, it could be a turning point. He wonders though, what kind of game Khamenei might be playing in handing A’jad the win in this “selection.” MORE at site: politico, jpost, bloomberg, nyt, phillyinquirer, memorandum, realclearpolitics, legalinsurrection, malkin, gateway, powerline, theothermccain, In other business, North Korea warns of nuclear war! http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090614/D98QDSOO0.html

POPS Obama in Bush Clothing By Charles Krauthammer Friday, May 22, 2009 "We were able to hold it off with George Bush. The idea that we might find ourselves fighting with the Obama administration over these powers is really stunning." If hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue, then the flip-flops on previously denounced anti-terror measures are the homage that Barack Obama pays to George Bush. Within 125 days, Obama has adopted with only minor modifications huge swaths of the entire, allegedly lawless Bush program. The latest flip-flop is the restoration of military tribunals. During the 2008 campaign, Obama denounced them repeatedly, calling them an "enormous failure." Obama suspended them upon his swearing-in. Now they're back. Of course, Obama will never admit in word what he's doing in deed.

POPS Ha Ha Now all he has to do is rehabilitate Churchill from that ghastly slur that Churchill wouldn’t do just about anything to save his people and even western civilization from imminent peril. Powerline. Because in a moralism born of utter naivete, Obama may not yet have figured out that in the heat of battle, in mortal combat, ugly things sometimes happen. Obama Veers Into The Daily Ditch -- Powerline Even if you are an intelligent man, reading Andrew Sullivan can make you stupid. It happened to President Obama this week. At his 100-day press conference, President Obama invoked Churchill rejecting the use of torture for interrogation in the days of the Blitz during World War II. Obama instructed the assembled multitude: I was struck by an article that I was reading the other day talking about the fact that the British during World War II, when London was being bombed to smithereens, had 200 or so detainees.

POPS Political Circus Mulled Because that’s what our nation needs right now. When war and a dire economy just aren’t enough. Sounds kind of like Congress may also prefer sticking him with the blame for whatever happens. It’s worked pretty well so far on the economic thing. Anyway, sounds like a national waterboarding. Should also really help next time they want covert operators to do some dirty job that needs to be done, and they assure them the lawyers have gone over it, it’s OK.

POPS Don't Mess With U.S. OK, time for Executive Grow-A-Set Order No 1. You can call it the Obama Doctrine. Anyone engaging in acts of piracy or terrorism on Americans anywhere in the world or in areas where American forces are lawfully operating can have his coconut drilled at any time, based on the discretion of the commander on scene. No further discussion. You holding your breath? I’m not. Yes, Obama allowed U.S. forces to do their job. It would have been shameful if he didn’t. But it involved no strategizing or anything beyond a yes or no by Obama, and frankly didn’t require that. It means nothing more than a happy day for America and the Phillips family, plus some wailing in a couple of Somali villages. Unless Obama has a plan, and the will to execute it. On that front, to steal a phrase, he has not yet begun to fight.

POPSThis Would Not Have Happened Under Saddam AFP: “Iraq arrests Al-Qaeda ‘oil minister’.” From the Iraqi statement: “The police in Diyala province arrested eleven members of the Islamic State in Iraq (Al-Qaeda’s self-styled name there), including Ali Mahmud Mohammed. He is the oil minister of this organization.” Now what was this bilge about Iraq having nothing to do with the Global War On Terrorism? Under Hussein, the government would have feted this guy. After President George Walker Bush liberated Iraq, police haul the guy off to jail. Thanks to President Bush, we now have an Arab nation that will arrest terrorists instead of funding them. POPSGeorgia looks to McCain "Obama? I'll quote John Hinderaker at Powerline, who expressed it wonderfully:" "While Obama initially parroted the Russian line, so that he was soon required to flip-flop--what a surprise!--McCain saw the crisis from the beginning as a clear case of Russian aggression, and understood the strategic implications of that aggression."

POPSFannie Mae and Freddie Mac Time to Get Rid of Them McCain is right on this one, as is Powerline... The Democratic Party has long had a cozy relationship with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Now that the chickens are coming home to roost, they take no responsibility, instead pursuing a policy of business as usual. As a reformist, McCain has often made life uncomfortable for his fellow Senators and Congressmen. I don't always agree with the reforms he advocates; McCain-Feingold is an obvious case in point. But if voters are looking for real change and want to elect a President who stands in opposition to the Washington establishment, they should vote for John McCain, not Barack Obama.

POPSMessiah Lies About His Senate Committee Assignment John explains the rest: But Obama is not a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Obama just made that up so he could count the committee's action as one of "my deeds." If committed by a Republican, this would be a gaffe of historic proportions. Even a Senator as inattentive to his duties as Obama certainly knows what committees he serves on. For him to fabricate the claim, out of whole cloth, that the Senate Banking Committee is " committee," strikes me as another sign of Obama's megalomania. That, plus more evidence that he is totally at sea without a teleprompter. Illinois Senator's Record Of Inaction Leaves Him Discredited WASHINGTON, July 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by the Republican National Committee: As Chairman Of The Subcommittee With NATO Oversight, Obama Has Failed To Hold Any Hearings On Afghanistan:

POPSSenator McCain by Mark Steyn January 31, 2008
Primary triumph doesn't seem to be doing anything to mitigate the small and graceless side of McCain. On the other hand, John Hinderaker might be on to something here: "Businessmen, in my experience, are generally more idealistic than politicians. Businessmen really do make deals with a handshake. No one would dream of doing that with Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi or the Clintons. Turning a businessman loose in the political world is basically a mismatch. That's the sense I get of McCain's reaction to having Romney as his last serious rival. He can't believe his good fortune; Romney is an amateur. McCain can poke him in the eye, knee him in the groin, and the rule-following businessman has no idea how to respond" powerline.com Maybe. But, just because McCain can poke Mitt in the eye is no indication he'll be as effective with Putin, a remarkable number of whose enemies wind up splattered on the sidewalk outside their apartment house after opting for....... http://corner.nationa
