Mandated Mental Screening for Pregnant Women, Babies & Toddlers
Cupideros
by Cupideros  1-29-2009
The points are simple: The Mothers Act is a bill which will increase mental health screening of pregnant women and new mothers, despite the fact that the widely accepted treatment for women diagnosed with postpartum depression is antidepressant drugs — documented by the U.S. FDA to cause worsening depression, mania, psychosis, suicidal and homicidal ideation and birth defects. There is no language in the bill that would assure mothers are given non-drug options or accurate information about the subjectivity of the diagnoses (a checklist of questions) or the documented risks of psychiatric drugs. This violates informed consent and puts new mothers and their infants at risk. Messages to members of Congress that are short, concise and to the point are the best. CCHR International

SWARA works for the poor and marginalized communities who are discriminated against by the developed sections of the society. The people in our operational area do not have any health facilities. They mostly depend on village quacks who often exploit them,so the organization has taken several steps to help them ie; the health education programmes on malaria and for mother and child care.

Cradle of maternity in the brain discovered
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-18-2008
The study also showed that a partial restoration of Pet-1 function in the developing brain of females partially restored their serotonin levels, and maternal behaviour in adulthood. The finding indicated that subtle changes in the embryonic formation of the brain serotonin system in females could impact the quality of the maternal care they later provide for their offspring. The researchers say that future studies with Pet-1 deficient mothers may help to further elucidate the link between serotonin and maternal behaviour, and lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches for treatment of post-partum depression and child neglect.

Britney Spears 'Attemtped Rehab Suicide'
happyhomemaker
by happyhomemaker  3-5-2007
I don't know how true this is. I do know if this girl is in rehab, it's obvious she needs help. She obviously needs to detox. That much is certain. How much of her behavior is postpartum depression, who knows. I just hope this poor girl, who grew up way too fast in my opinion, gets all the help she needs before it's too late.
