Incredible RNC Speeches of Huckabee, Giuliani, and Palin
sahara
by sahara  Today 8:21 AM    1
Well, they were "incredible"! That desk story was sent to me in an e-mail 6 years ago! Giuliani amazed me, I thought he was only able to say 9-1-1, good for him, he is progressing, I always thought he was more the progressive than he let on this past year or so, seriously look back at his positions prior to the race for the white house. As for Palin, she makes for good tabloid fodder, not much else, she seems a lot more likely to fit in on the Springer show than Oprah, so...

An Alaskan's assessment of Palin
lp97702
by lp97702  9-3-2008    1
"I don't know" is the operative here. My thinking is that we don't really know how she'll pan out in the campaign. She may do well tonight and in the debate and win some votes. Or she may bomb. I think she'll do ok, but in the end her radical positions like no birth control even for married couples will be her undoing with a broad swath of the electorate. She'll talk middle but she's a George Bush in a skirt, a radical right wing ideologue.

A Swarm of Lobbyists Would Run McCain's White House

Except that it was a crock. Here's the hilarious part: the announcement was made by the top campaign staffer, Rick Davis. Guess what he is. A lobbyist! His clients range from such telecom giants as Verizon to undies-maker Fruit of the Loom, and most have had business before McCain's Senate committees.

McCain Surrogate Accuses Obama of Absenteeism
Wisco
by Wisco  9-1-2008    2
Hypocrisy, thy initials are GOP. This also highlights something I've been saying; Republicans are bad on the economy because they suck at math and logic. First, 45.5% is there more often than gone, Lindsey gets it backward. Second, if Obama's "never challenged his own party to do anything different," how can he possibly be the most liberal senator ? I know that Team McCain's having trouble keeping his positions consistent, but if they could just keep their talking points in agreement, it'd be a big improvement.

Russia Defiant Ahead of EU Summit
merrie
by merrie  9-1-2008    1
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said there was "no turning back" on the country's position concerning breakaway South Ossetia and Abhkazia, adding that Moscow was ready to retaliate if the EU opted for sanctions at a summit on Monday. Sunday 31 August 2008 Russian troops entered Georgia on August 8 to push back a Georgian offensive to retake the rebel enclave of South Ossetia, which broke away from Tbilisi in the 1990s with Moscow's backing. Russian troops continue to hold positions in western Georgia, serving in what Moscow describes as a peacekeeping mission. Tbilisi has labelled them an occupation force. By AFP (text) / Romain Goguelin reports from Tbilisi, Georgia (video) video on website http://www.france24.com/en/20080831-russia-defiant-ahead-eu-summit-medvedev-georgia-south-ossetia-abkhazia

Will Media ask Palin the tough questions?
masbury
by masbury  9-1-2008
What are her views on Iraq? She has expressed concern that we were there just for oil control, and that we had no clear plan - in contrast with McCain. When will she be back in Alaska for her Monegan investigation deposition? The investigation is to be completed by October 31 - will it happen on schedule, or be delayed past election day by her campaigning?

Inexperienced Republican vs. Inexperienced Democrat
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  8-29-2008    50
So I've been having a lot of heated discussions on exactly how important it is for a candidate to be experienced. My view is: not at all. Knowledge matters. Belief matters. Judgment matters. But experience in Washington is a minus for me. Hopefully, now, this will put the experience debate to bed. Shame on Barbra Boxer for making the same argument against Palin that she dismisses against Obama! Both tickets are a good mix of experience and freshness. If Democrats want to take on Palin, they should have enough wherewithal to criticize her political positions, just like Republicans should stop whining about manufactured personal issues with Obama and get to the meat of why they don't like him: the issues.

Obama: Nothing More Than a Shrewd and Opportunistic Partisan
merrie
by merrie  8-29-2008
He could have joined the bipartisan “Gang of 14” that negotiated a halt to divisive judicial nominations, but didn't. He could have been a leader for bipartisan compromises on immigration, terrorist surveillance and energy, but wasn't. According to a Washington Post database, Obama votes with his party 96 percent of the time, which makes him tied for the eleventh most partisan member of the Senate. At 96.6 percent, his running mate Joe Biden is the eighth most partisan senator. In his next political act, he dispensed with centrism and the great middle ground of American politics and espoused the politics of “change” — change in pastors, change in churches and calculated changes in his positions on NAFTA, gun control and much else. But all those convention antics pale in comparison to the change in the man who, four years ago, briefly fired the imaginations of Americans tired of the extremes of partisan politics. That Obama has left and gone away, if he ever really existed.

First Stage of Global Cooling During 2008/09
amgumen

Mr. Dilley of Global Weather Oscillations has found seven different types of recurring gravitational cycles ranging from the very warm 460,000 year cycle down to a 230 year recurring global warming cycle. All of the gravitational cycles coincide nearly 100 percent with 2200 global warming events during the past half million years. This includes the earth’s current warming cycle which began around the year 1900, and the first stage of global cooling that will begin during 2008 and 2009.
