POPSWhere Does He Get All These Wondeful Steampunk Toys?? I admit to being rather fond (actually, enamored) with the entire Steampunk Genre. I am a fan of many of the stylings that have come from one pop culture type to another... Junk stores are doing booming business these days as people hit them up for old brass fittings, watches, horns and other things to modify and adapt. We went through a similar phase with Star Wars and other Sci-Fi things in the 70a and they returned in the last decade. Super Heroes were big merchandise money makers during the WW II years, the mid 60s, and then again the late 80s with the birth of the Batman craze following the campy antics of the 60s and the dark, Gothic feel of the movie series. Super Heroes came back in a big way with X-Men. This is what I have always heard that popular culture repeats itself every generation or so... Hold on to those Slinkys, Hula Hoops, and Slip n' Slide: we may be in for a wild ride again!

POPSThe Last Supper??? Stumbled Upon this blog site and loved the reworking of Da Vinci's Magnum Opus. No disrespect to anyone but look at it in the light of Pop Culture as many of the various artists did. Da Vinci (and other Artists of the Renaissance) were painting the Pop Culture of their day when there was an Inquisition or three going on, the Protestant Reformation, the Age of Exploration and the Enlightenment... OK, Popeye is no Christ but it is interesting, n'est ce pas?

POPSThat Wacky Century - Part VI (1969-1976) If you are wondering why this clip ends in Logan's Run then you have not yet remembered what Sci-Fi movie made its debut in 1977. This writer makes some very funny pop culture comments not to mention he really has done his homework on what was the cause of many historical actions..

POPSRockstar paid $100,000 for the voice of Niko Bellic "Had this been a television program, a film, an album, a radio show or virtually any other sort of traditional recorded performance, Mr. Hollick and the other actors in the game would have made millions by now," writes Schiesel -- and important sentence cut out by Clipmarks. Essentially the theory here is that videogame companies need to offer royalties to all the voice actors in the game. The problem, however, is figuring out where to draw the line once you start paying royalties. Is a voice actor more important than an animator? This is one of the concerns facing EA in the possible acquisition of Take-Two: The Houser brothers receive generous royalties from Take-Two that, if acquired, might cause insurrection within Electronic Arts' other studios.

POPSGoogle Designer Themes? Though its only themes for iGoogle, this initiative feels a bit like a philosophical shift; we know nothing gets passed Sergei and Larry, so lets see if this materializes elsewhere in Gtown. For what its worth, i think its pretty neat.

POPSHollywood Still Forcing Gay Actors to Remain Closeted Hollywood producers and studios continue to have little faith in movie fans, and believe that if an actor comes out as gay, they will stay away in droves. This problem does not seem to exist in Canada, Britain, France etc. I can't help but wonder why it is that the U.S, even in these allegedly enlightened times, continues to be fearful of gays. I know the original Puritanical basis of the country is often blamed, but we must remember, those Puritans came from the same countries that are now much more accepting of homosexuals.

POPSThe Pinup Side of Biker Art I managed to translate the lyrics to this silly song, with Google and a friend that claims to know something. Let me know if you know better Laugh : I don't need anybody On a Harley Davidson Nobody On a Harley Davidson I squeeze the clutch And leave the ground I'll go to heaven, But in a train to hell. I don't need anybody On a Harley Davidson Nobody On a Harley Davidson And if I die tomorrow It was my destiny I wish much less for life Than my terrible engine's I don't need anybody On a Harley Davidson I don't need anybody On a Harley Davidson When I feel the way The juddering of my machine, I climbed desires In my guts I don't need anybody On a Harley Davidson I don't need anybody On a Harley Davidson I go to more than one hundred, And I'm filled with fire and blood, Let me die The wind in my hair Let me die The wind in my hair And that would explain the crazy hair tossing...

POPSDesign & Mystique of the Japanese School Uniform The U.K., Malaysia and Ireland have nice school uniforms, but the Japanese school attire seemingly takes it to another level, leaving the students looking like little sailors and marching band leaders? The variety of uniforms as well as the ways students customize them as far as they are allowed is amazing. PingMag shows you interesting details in fashion and the social performance that accompany this apparel to a point where the traditional Japanese school uniform has developed beyond the schoolyard and into pop culture. A very interesting read at the source.....
