At the basic level, students can "drag and drop" research papers into the site at mendeley.com, which automatically extracts data, keywords, cited references, etc, thereby creating a searchable database and saving countless hours of work. That in itself is great, but now the Last.fm bit kicks in, enabling users to collaborate with researchers around the world, whose existence they might not know about until Mendeley's algorithms find, say, that they are the most-read person in Japan in their niche specialism. You can recommend other people's papers and see how many people are reading yours, which you can't do in Nature and Science. Mendeley says that instead of waiting for papers to be published after a lengthy procedure of acquiring citations, they could move to a regime of "real-time" citations, thereby greatly reducing the time taken for research to be applied in the real world and actually boost economic growth. A Los Angeles city councilman in the early 1950s, Harby took up propaganda-arms with a paranoid group of right-wing loonies called the Society for Sanity in Art. They made it their patriotic duty to search out Communist symbols they just knew were hidden in that weird, postwar abstract art.

POPSClunker Debunker: Program’s Illusory Success This is why the federal government should not own businesses. They can authorize giving money to buyers of their products. Chrysler would have benefited from this program had it been in place when Chrysler dealers were losing their long-time family owned businesses. Also, some of these so called clunkers are in better shape than vehicles used by humanitarian programs delivering food and medical assistance to shut ins. It would have been nice to hook these people up. But, I’m sure politicians will give a host of ‘good’ reasons for doing it all this way.

POPSThe One Thing Sotomayor needs to be Confirmed! Show-up! After the dog-and-pony show is over, she will be confirmed so basically all the time and effort is just a distraction. The only way she would not be confirmed - say something outrageously stupid like - she's pro-life or thinks global warming is just a myth, but do not hold your breath. Like all confirmation hearings, it is 'us' against 'them', what's best for the country is not a consideration.

POPSNaked 'Terminator' arrested at casino (he won't be back) Smith reportedly ran into the arcade, startling the children who were playing video games. The deputy deployed his Taser with a “touch stun” which failed to subdue the suspect. The second time, Smith went to the ground and was handcuffed. Harrah's security provided bedsheets to cover Smith and he was taken to security in a wheelchair. He reportedly told officers he had ingested marijuana and LSD. Paramedics took Smith the Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was issued a hospital gown and taken to Douglas County Jail.
