Jonathan Pollard was a civilian American Naval intelligence analyst. In the mid 1980's, Pollard discovered that information vital to Israel's security was being deliberately withheld. Israel was legally entitled to this vital security information according to a 1983 Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries. Information being withheld from Israel included Syrian, Iraqi, Libyan and Iranian nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare capabilities - being developed for use against Israel. It also included information on ballistic missile development by these countries and information on planned terrorist attacks against Israeli civilian targets. Pollard was painfully aware that Israeli lives were being put in jeopardy as a result of this undeclared intelligence embargo. He did everything he possibly could to stop this covert policy and to have the legal flow of information to Israel restored. When his efforts met no success, he began to give the information to Israel directly

I am considered a Jewish Christian or Christian Jew, whichever you prefer, having been Bar-Mitzvahed in 1970 into the Tribe of Levi . Israel is a foreign nation when it comes to classified material. It had no right to it. It still doesn’t, unless the classifying authority says it does. In the case of the material I was responsible for, that authority is the president of the United States and no one else. Pollard is a traitor and deserves the punishment he is receiving. He is no better than the Walkers or Aldrich Ames. Any efforts to paint him in a heroic light are repugnant and a stain upon responsible American Jewry. Pollard claimed we had a duty to Israel as well as the US. I had no such divided loyalties. Our loyalty is, was and always shall be to the USA, first, last and always.
