POPSWomen Warriors The Army inserting women in direct combat without consent from Congress is a practice that's been going on for a number of years now, she says. "It's gotten worse," Donnelly said. "It's the policymakers I fault in this. They are the ones responsible for deciding who goes where. The field officers are having to deal with problems like pregnancies, evacuation, sexual misconduct, romantic hostility. Right now people aren't discussing," she said. Women sleep in separate quarters, and use separate bathrooms. However, female troops are much more likely to face the additional threat of sexual harassment and assault. Almost 15 percent of female Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who have gone to the Veterans Administration for care have experienced sexual assault, according to "Women Warriors" study released this month by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

POPSJudge Sonia Sotomayor Denied My Appeal and I Spent 16 Years in Prison For a Crime I Didn't Commit I defended my innocence before the New York Appellate Division, raising such proof as the fact that the physical evidence found did not match me and arguing that the police violated my rights by coercing a false confession from me at the age of 16. The court ruled against me 5 to 0, concluding that there was nothing wrong with my interrogation and stating that there was "overwhelming evidence of guilt," despite the fact that there was no evidence beyond my forced confession. In truth, the DNA and the hairs found on the victim's body were evidence of my innocence. Read full article:

POPS House Panel Bans Deals To Hide Teacher Sexual Misconduct The series documented 47 secret agreements in which school districts agreed to conceal an educator's misconduct in exchange for his or her resignation, a practice known among educators as passing the trash. The bill passed today, House Bill 2062, would ban such deals. The bill stalled for several weeks as legislators worked on defining a "substantiated" allegation, what should go into personnel files and other terms and requirements for disclosure among districts of an employee's conduct. "With the passage of this bill, Oregon will have the strongest laws protecting the safety of children in school of any state in the nation," said Rep. Sara Gelser, D-Corvallis, chairwoman of the House Education Committee.

POPSCops Gone Wild: A 24-hour glimpse into police misconduct And going back deeper still, say within the last 24 hours, you can read about a Delaware cop arrested for stealing thousands from a police union; a California cop jailed for breaking into the homes of women during a drunken binge; and a Georgia cop who was arrested for fighting with a student inside a high school, On the blog, there is a news feed, which is compiled by Injustice in Seattle, is in the left sidebar of this site. It’s mind-blowing how often it is updated. These are just some of the reports being made public. I wonder how many others are not brought to the public's attention? Remember, their motto is 'To Protect and Serve'.

POPSYouTube restores account of Egypt anti-torture blogger Abbas was a key player last year in distributing a clip of an Egyptian bus driver, his hands bound, being sodomized with a stick by a police officer -- imagery that sparked an uproar in a country where rights groups say torture is commonplace. That tape prompted an investigation that led to a rare conviction of two policemen, who were sentenced to three years in prison for torture. Egypt says it opposes torture and prosecutes police against whom it has evidence of misconduct.

POPS"DON'T TASER ME BRO!" revisited...
(VIDEO) Freedom of Speech, was denied Andrew Meyer, and should not be swept under the rug. Police brutality in all its brazenness needs to be recognized. This was not just a standard procedure, the way some media outlets would like to paint it as. It was a blatant miscarriage of justice. This happens all to often and in most cases is not captured by film so the police misconduct and ruthless treatment by those who are paid to protect us goes on. The only possible winner in this loathsome show of coarseness may be, to keep the pressure on about how our election system is so full of holes, resulting in votes not being counted and citizens unlawfully banned from the polls. -- Greg Palast, Author - Armed Madhouse People ask me: Are they going to steal the 2008 election?
