POPSPregnant teenager who fell into eight-year coma after her first dose of heroin loses fight for life Thelma, 55, distraught after her daughter's one-off experiment, launched a personal campaign to warn other families about the dangers of class-A drugs. She appeared in the national Press and on TV. She invited the cameras to her daughter's bedside and even posed with her daughter to highlight the cause. Amy had once been a popular teenager who enjoyed running and writing poetry. She also loved the sea. Thelma, from Sedlescombe, East Sussex, said at the time: 'It is horrendous. She was my daughter, my best friend, everything. How could anyone do this to her? 'She was such a lovely, bubbly girl with so much to live for.'

POPSWish You Were Beer Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, it is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver. I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day. Remember: "I" before "E," except in Budweiser. I drink only to make my friends seem interesting. Everybody should believe in something; I believe I'll have another drink. Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXdNnw99-Ic

POPSWhitman quote & image
American poet Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, is a collection of poems notable for its frank delight in and praise of the senses, during a time when such candid displays were considered immoral. Where much previous poetry, especially English, relied on symbolism, allegory, and meditation on the religious and spiritual, Leaves of Grass exalted the body and the material world. Whitman was inspired to begin Leaves of Grass after reading an essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson which expressed a need for a uniquely American poet. When the book was first published, Whitman sent a copy to Emerson, whose praiseful letter of response helped launch the book to success. Whitman’s hero, Abraham Lincoln, read and enjoyed an early version of Leaves of Grass. Despite such high recommendations, Whitman faced charges of obscenity and immorality for his work, but this only led to increased popularity of the book. Whitman continually revised and republished Leaves of Grass throughout his lifetime, notably

POPSOmar Khayyam - Rubaiyat Found the video first and remembered the book of poetry I had many years ago. I have a natural fascination for the sufi dancers. Children dance like this all the time and whilst mainstream Islam may not have a great name the Sufis have always felt "wondrous" to me. And if you have ever tried dancing like this - I totally understand why they do it!!! It's BLISS creating on a "feeling level".

Ben Smith: RT @mkoshark: Gadhafi is set to close his #UN speech with a shameless plug to watch his stint on next season’s Dancing With the Stars Chris Lehmann: I’m assuming the aide responsible for giving an Attaboy to Qaddafi after that performance is now planning to defect. Mike Madden: RT @owillis:Qadafi: so this is what @glennbeck sounds like in a diff language. Jake Tapper: AND…Qadaffi’s done. Roughly 90 minutes of sheer poetry. Ben Smith: Qaddafi: You are the ones who hate the Jews. Mark Knoller: At 90 minutes into the Qadhafi speech, 2nd shift of UN translators come on duty. POPSYour Brain On Words There is no one brain part which when taken away would suddenly rob you of your ability to read. We rely on the same old brain — the same brain that we inherited from our Homo Sapiens ancestors 200,000 years ago when they appeared in Africa. This means that the same brain that hunted wildlife and walked thru Ice Ages is the same brain that can now read a book a day.

POPSFirekites - My New Favourite Music
Music for me is like clothing. You look in the wardrobe and at some point you scroll through and go, "nah, nah, nah etc" You might look at your whole wardrobe that way and when things are like that you know it is time to toss out the old and buy new clothes. Music is something I use a lot at different tmes, for different purposes. It is more than just reading or watching stuff - the music itself adds to the poetry of the songs. Can't help but tap my deeper inspiration through music - it allows that bird of inspiration to fly free and find new bliss. Yet, like clothing I can find myself squizzing through my CDs going, "nah, nah, nah... that's not it, that's not it..." and then I know it is time to find new music. So I have, "Firekites" are my current flavour for however long that keeps me inspired. Click the main link and you can listen to some of their music. It is chilled and very laid back, with meaning - so if you don't like music like that you probably won't like their
