POPSAmerica has no right to speak ill of our NHS Great article continues at source: "It is the one thing, in our digital, atomised, privatised, multi-ethnic age, that unites us; our irreducible essence, the very best of us. Healthcare free at the point of delivery is the principle upon which every politician across our spectrum — marginal self-publicists such as Daniel Hannan aside — now agrees. The NHS ministered to David Cameron’s brain-damaged son as tenderly as to Gordon Brown’s fatally ill infant girl. It shows that decency, fairness and compassion, the national traits we fear died with nobler generations, live on. That America does not have universal health-care, that 47 million of your citizens live in fear of getting ill, appals and, frankly, baffles us."

POPSTwitter campaign to defend NHS against US attacks I just checked and it's not April Fools Day ... I'm amazed Americans are using false information in order to prevent them from receiving health care even after their medical 'insurance' refuses to pay for treatment or cancels their insurance and they are unable to purchase health insurance anywhere. The level of baseless fear -- fed by the American corporate medical system via millions of dollars in commercials and propaganda solely to protect their profit machine -- is well beyond my comprehension.

POPSCompulsory volunteering Apart from the small issue that clearly this Scotsman doesn't speak English terribly well (although he also probably believes in the concept of honest politicians or intelligent government), the general concept of encouraging people to do some community service is good. Apart from a couple of issues - people who insist others should do some community work should, and I really mean should, do at least as much comunity work first to prove they aren't just seeing it as a means of gaining cheap labour. The entirity of our political system should do at least 50 hours community work before they pass this bill. The other thing is that "community service" is a well established punishment. How would you feel if JohhnyX, 21, down the road got sentenced to 30 hours community service for some misdemeanour, whilst you as an innodent, fresh faced young 17yr old suddenly got sentenced to 50 hours because some idiot in Government thought it would bring in a few votes?

POPSGordon Brown Wants UK To Be The International Financial Center For Sharia Products This would threaten free business if they are in conflict with Sharia Law. As Melanie Phillips puts it: Acceptance of Sharia finance furthers the Islamist objective of gradually legitimising Islamic Sharia Law more generally in the west (...). The most important point to grasp is that Islam recognises no authority superior to sharia. http://www.melaniephillips.com/ To know more about Sharia finance, check out the Shariah Finance Blog. http://www.shariahfinancewatch.org/blog/

POPSIrony Alert OK, confession time. I've been somewhat slack in my studies of Czech politics. Yet it seems odd that the Czech PM was just presented a vote of non-confidence by his parliament and turns around and offers advise to the EU on the monetary world crisis. His stance is eerily similiar to the Republican's here in the US. After bearing the blunt of the responsibility for the economic mess here the Republicans seem quite comfortable in offering the same prescription for the economy that got us into this mess in the first place. Odd indeed!

POPSGordon Brown Has Been Given A Collection Of 25 Classic American Films On DVD The Prime Minister's reaction to getting DVDs is not known. Mr Brown is not noted for his love of cinema, although he once claimed on a trip to India that he was an admirer of Bollywood. As revealed by yesterday's Standard, the Browns showered gifts on the Obama children too, using the occasion to promote British exports. Sarah Brown gave Sasha and Malia Obama an outfit each from Topshop, which has just opened its first American store in New York. She also picked six children's books by British authors which are shortly to be published in America. In return, the Obamas gave the Browns two models of the presidential helicopter, Marine One, to take home to sons Fraser and John.

POPSDoes Obambi Like Britain Apparently when its going to visit the Queen. But that whole close ally who supported us in Iraq and Afghanistan is just so much dreck. And please take this bust of Churchill - the man who almost single-handedly stood up to Hitler and saved Western Civilization - back because it is taking up valuable space that we can use for Lenin and Marx.

POPS British Not Happy With Obama's Diss of P.M. President Barack Obama just plain rude to Britain. Don't call us in future. By: Iain Martin The Telegraph Mar 4, 2009 Why couldn't President Obama have put on more of a show for his British guests? He looked like he simply couldn't be bothered. Number 10 may be content that they just about got away with the visit to the Oval Office yesterday, as Andrew Porter reports from Washington. But on this side of the Atlantic the whole business looked pretty demeaning. The morning papers and TV last night featured plenty of comment focused on the White House's very odd and, frankly, exceptionally rude treatment of a British PM. Squeezing in a meeting, denying him a full press conference with flags etc. The British press corps, left outside for an hour in the cold, can take it and their privations are of limited concern to the public.

POPSTreasury Secretary Geithner's Elite Global Connections The Group of Thirty and heads of central banks of the world. He also used to work for Henry "new world order" Kissinger. See article for much more. Michael Savage even exposed this further on his radio program saying this is an indication at where things are going. This is a hint to the coming globalization of the banking system, not just nationalization of some US banks. PM Gordon Brown and the G8 meetings have indicated movement the same direction. Geithner is not in office really to help the economy...but to help the banksters....who are in control of the governments, and consolidating power. After all, he came from the Federal Reserve Bank of NY.

POPS 180 Minutes From "Apocalypse" Mortgages would have been sold on and savers would have been spooked, to put it mildly. It would have been chaos.' After a weekend of crisis talks, which concluded at dawn on the Monday, it was announced that Lloyds TSB was taking over HBOS, supported by £17billion of taxpayers' money, and RBS would receive an injection of £20billion - prompting the resignation of RBS's infamous chief executive, Sir Fred 'the shred' Goodwin. Share prices at last started a small rally. Ruth Lea, economic adviser to the Arbuthnot Banking Group, said last night that it was 'highly irresponsible' for Lord Myners to reveal the scale of the problems because it could serve to further wreck already fragile levels of confidence. 'We are not out of the woods yet,' she said. Posted by Anonymous Monetarist at 2:38 PM

POPS12000 mile telegraph. My, good news travels fast. After praising the Australian Prime Minister the news jackals try chewing Carol Clarkson to death. Do they not like their PM being praised? The only people this statement will upset are the PC brigade who last evening filled the studio of the Question time audience, the dogs of labour Commons and dour Scots who would take Lucifer over Yahweh as long as he had a tartan.

POPSWarnings From World Leaders All Within 72 Hours “The problems will always be there and there’s going to be a crisis which will come along on the 21st, 22nd of January that we don’t even know about right now.” Powell told Meet the Press. Why are there so many high level politicians around the world in a seemingly coordinated effort warning of huge threats and developing crisis’ that may include a nuclear device? Are they preparing the masses for an event or series of events that have been in the making for some time? Is the public being prepared for new and forming enemies with a potential to plunge the entire world into war? ----end quote--- A number of notable public figures, to be sure; Biden, Rudd, Colin Powell, Madelaine Albright, Lord West and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner. Taken alone there are plenty of ready explanations, but within 72hrs.? Are there any more recent examples out there?
