POPSPilocchio's Broken 72-Hour Online "Pledge" Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was "absolutely" committed to doing so. House members are still negotiating important issues in the bill--whether it will provide taxpayer-funding for abortions, for example. Pelosi is pushing for a Saturday House vote, and a number of big changes will be introduced, likely less than 24 hours before the vote takes place (if in fact it does). The Rules Committee hasn't yet released its resolution, or rule, that must be passed before the bill can move from committee to the floor. The rule will set the terms of debate and determine what amendments are in order. It seems likely that the rule will allow very few, if any, up-or-down votes on amendments on the House floor.

On the contrary, it is asking police and the military to lay down their arms in response to unlawful orders. Group supporters compare President Obama's America to Adolf Hitler's Germany. That’s not enough for many gay activists, but it will win over the Washington-based leadership of HRC and other gay groups, ever eager to sing the praises of a politician with a (D) after his name who says the right things to their audiences. Of course, to those activists, with highfalutin language and that (D), it really doesn’t matter what he does. Once again, it was typical Obama, lofty words with little to show for them. Sickening. But the "co-ops" it calls for instead are almost the same thing. Anyway, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid still insists that the "public option" will be included in any bill voted on by the full Senate. Finally, much of the bill for ObamaCare would be paid for with cuts to Medicare. Seniors will love that. (Not.) As we've said before, Obama and his Democratic pals on Capitol Hill are chasing radical dreams to take over a huge swath of the economy -- a project that would take a heavy toll on jobs, restrict patients' and doctors' choices and leave health care in worse shape. As the plan wends its way through Congress, it sure isn't getting much better.
