Earth Needs Users' Guide To Protect It From People
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  9-30-2009    5
Nature said in an editorial the proposed indicators were a "creditable attempt" to quantify limits on human use of the planet. However, it noted, for instance, that fertilizers caused pollution yet helped feed millions of people. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, head of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and a co-author of the study, said there were growing risks of abrupt and possibly irreversible changes. "Since the Industrial Revolution, a new era has arisen, the Anthropocene, in which human actions have become the main driver of global environmental change," they wrote.

Planetary line up excites the sun
pokkets

The equatorial region of the sun spins more rapidly than the poles, and this differential rotation winds up the magnetic field lines like a rubber band sunspots typically appear wherever these magnetic field lines bubble to the surface. They still have to do more testing, but it makes more sense than other theories such as tidal forces, or the movement of the sun around the solar system's center of gravity, which don't seem to have a significant enough effect.

Solar Energy in India and the Rise of Global Awareness

Very interesting: "per capita emissions." Does this mean that in the future, you could be taxed differently than your neighbour depending on what car you drive, how far you commute, how much you recycle. It's already slightly that way, for instance you can get tax rebates for buying solar panels. If it was broken down into 'per capita emissions' though, this would be a very different story.

The World's Mastermind: The Hidden Face of Globalization
gingembre

Much more at the source--very interesting reading! I've heard a little about Argentina and other countries going very left-wing and refusing to go along with globalization as dictated by the major power structure in the world today. This article goes into great detail on this matter.

World Jump Day (20 July 2006)
zephyrgong
by zephyrgong  7-19-2006
http://www.worldjumpday.org "Scientific research has proven that this change of planetary positioning would very likely stop global warming, extend daytime hours and create a more homogenous climate." It at least needs 6 billion jumpers, and there're already have more registered jumpers. So by letting millions of people jump,we can drive our planet a new orbit, what you think? Anyway, this's a very cute thought.
