POPSNeocons and the truth: Bitter enemies to the end From the article: In late 2006, I wrote about virtually identical deceit from this same group, that time with regard to Iraq. On National Review in December of 2006, Ledeen -- just as the Beltway establishment was finally turning against the war in Iraq and in the wake of a lengthy Vanity Fair article identifying the neocons who were to blame -- claimed: "I opposed the military invasion of Iraq before it took place."

POPSIraq war spurs effort to regrow lost limbs The marine's stem cells could be used to grow more cells that are then painted on a scaffold in the shape of his ears and nose, says Schoomaker. After an incubation period of weeks, the biodegradable scaffold would be implanted on the skin and absorbed, ultimately becoming fully functional, he says. As well as developing techniques to salvage and reconstruct damaged hands, fingers, ears and noses the new research effort will develop techniques to reconstruct damaged skulls. Teams of scientists led by Wake Forest University in North Carolina and the University of Pittsburgh as well as Rutgers University in New Jersey and the Cleveland Clinic be part of the newly funded institute

POPSUS Army School of Torture & Murder on Trail Feb 12 2008. Lizarbe, one of the few survivors of the massacre, testified Monday before U.S. District Judge Adalberto Jordan saying she watched soldiers under their command rape and torture women and children. Another plaintiff, Baldeón, also gave an emotional testimony about the Accomarca massacre; she was 12 years old at the time. The plaintiffs each testified that they survived by hiding from the soldiers. Despite Lizarbe's own escape, her mother, four brothers and a sister were killed . Soldiers also murdered Baldeón's mother and brother. The plaintiffs testified about life after such a devastating loss and their on-going struggle to heal.

POPSHistory Lesson: Bloated Republican Spending, W. and the 109th Congress Some of the rightwingers are trying to make hay over Nancy Pelosi having spend $16,000 over the course of a year for flowers. Many of which are used to entertain foreign dignatories who visit the U.S. at the request of the Bush White House. When you compare that to, (1) the record spending and deficits of the Republican controlled 109th Congress, and (2) Bush never casting a single veto to stop a spending bill, you see how desperate the Republicans are. Shjould we talk about the $2 trillion dollars of waste in Iraq? This article is from the Cato Institute. A conservative think tank (possible oxymoron).

POPSDeath Bait, new bait in Iraq
"In a country that is awash in armaments and magazines and implements of war, if every time somebody picked up something that was potentially useful as a weapon, you might as well ask every Iraqi to walk around with a target on his back," said Eugene Fidell, president of the National Institute of Military Justice. "We don't discuss specific methods targeting enemy combatants," said Paul Boyce, an Army spokesman. "The accused are charged with murder and wrongfully placing weapons on the remains of Iraqi nationals. There are no classified programs that authorize the murder of local nationals and the use of 'drop weapons' to make killings appear legally justified." "It's our job out here to lay people down who are doing bad things," Spec. Joshua L. Michaud testified in Iraq in July, discussing the unit's numerous casualties. "I don't want to call it revenge, but we needed to find a way so that we could get the bad guys the right way and still maintain the right military things to d

POPSAxis of Evil: SOA School of the Americas/WHINSEC "SOA Watch is an independent organization that seeks to close the US Army School of the Americas, under whatever name it is called, through vigils and fasts, demonstrations and non-violent protest, as well as media and legislative work. The Pentagon has responded to the growing movement and Congress' near closure of the SOA with a PR campaign to give the SOA a new image. In an attempt to disassociate the school with its horrific past, the SOA was renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation in January of 2001."

POPSFISK: "Even I question the 'truth' about 9/11"
....– whose melting point is supposed to be about 1,480C – would snap through at the same time? (They collapsed in 8.1 and 10 seconds.) What about the third tower – the so-called World Trade Centre Building 7 (or the Salmon Brothers Building) – which collapsed in 6.6 seconds in its own footprint at 5.20pm on 11 September? Why did it so neatly fall to the ground when no aircraft had hit it? The American National Institute of Standards and Technology was instructed to analyse the cause of the destruction of all three buildings. They have not yet reported on WTC 7. Two prominent American professors of mechanical engineering – very definitely not in the "raver" bracket – are now legally challenging the terms of reference of this final report on the grounds that it could be "fraudulent or deceptive". Journalistically, there were many odd things about 9/11. Initial reports of reporters that they heard "explosions" in the towers – which could well have been the beams cracking – are easy to

POPSOut of the shadows: 1920s Revolution Brigades Interview
These are the kinds of insurgent leaders who - according to Dan Goure, vice-president of the Virginia-based Lexington Institute and a Pentagon consultant - the US military intelligence is increasingly targeting in the hope of taking out the leadership of what the resistance leaders themselves estimate as a 50,000-strong movement. At least 1.2 million Iraqis have sought refuge in Syria since the US invasion - the equivalent of about 5 million refugees in Britain - and Syria is regularly accused by the US of supporting or turning a blind eye to insurgent groups operating across the border. Zubeidy insists that they have no direct contact with the Syrian regime - and they certainly don't advertise their presence in Damascus. "Our organisations depend on stores of weapons left by Saddam Hussein, or we buy them from the Iraqi army through merchants," says Zubeidy. "We try to avoid links with the Syrians. Either they can sell us out at any time if there is heavy pressure on them, or we

POPSHow not to begin a new century....welcome to the future! Here's the real motivation for the war in Iraq.....a war of choice! 9-11 was their "Pearl Harbor".....it gave them exactly what they needed to invade Iraq, and subject America to their brand of international policy based on global domination. The Neocons got to move forward with their vision of reality! (9-11 was a blessing to this crew!)

POPS"On Point" discussion about Iraq surge "On Point" has retired general William Odom and AEI scholar Fred Kagan debate the merits of a troop surge. IMHO Kagan's viewpoint doesn't fare well on the show, but maybe I'm just biased. :)
