POPSTop Ten Reasons to Give Back the Peace Prize Reason Number Three: The US Continues to Ignore Israeli nukes, while it acts as banker, diplomatic cover, and armorer its brutal Israel's sixty year occupation of Palestine. Reason Number Two: The US is Funnelling Billions Into Expanding Its Military Presence Across the African Continent. Reason Number One: It just ain't right.

POPSPeace Corps Lessons These speak to me...tho I'd add to number 10 "or know when not to"... My time in Morocco produced a few too many "don't get so close to me creep" moments so I'd suggest keeping in mind where SHE's coming from... :)

POPSObama's Civilian National Security Force No wonder Obama fired Inspector General Walpin who uncovered the misuse of taxpayer funds by Americorps... public outrage over wasted taxpayer money could ruin his grand plan. No wonder he gave Walpin 1 hour to resign or be fired after Walpin threatened to reopen the investigation and (possibly) go public with it.

POPS"The Toughest Job You’ll Ever Love" Can Change the World
A once in a generation opportunity to revitalize the program we all love and respect: In 1961, JFK established the Peace Corps to promote world peace & friendship. More than 195,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 countries. Volunteers work in the following areas: education, youth outreach, community development; business development; agriculture, environment; health, HIV/AIDS & information technology Some of the "More Peace Corps" goals: * Need more robust training programs that teach volunteers how to install water pumps, put in solar panels, & set up health posts * Need creative partnerships with other international volunteer sending programs, micro-credit groups, & NGOs * Need to follow President Obama's challenge to all Americans to serve their communities, their country & the cause of peaceful development across the Globe * Need 16,000 Americans serving in 100 countries http://www.morepeacecorps.org http://www.peacecorps.gov

POPSObama's Youth: Hope, Change And Snappy Uniforms 50 hours a year. 100 hours for college students, provided their type of service is deemed acceptable by a sprawling new Federal bureaucracy. Oh, and Obama's going to double the size of the Peace Corps while quadrupling AmeriCorps. I'm curious if anyone will be left to fill all the newly vacated private sector jobs. St. Barack concluded his speech with this gem: "Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it." But what if I love my country the way it is? Throwing more kerosene on the mob's torches, Obama is moving his nomination acceptance speech to Denver's 75,000-seat outdoor stadium. And is thinking about a speech at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. Odd that he didn't choose Nuremberg. We've talked a lot about Liberal Fascism. Apparently, it wasn't a moment too soon. UPDATE: A Lizard invasion? Thanks for the LGF link, Charles!

POPSObama's Civilian National Security Force How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together? Now, maybe he was misquoted by the Congressional Quarterly and the Chicago Tribune. I guess it's possible. If so, you would think he would want to set the record straight. Maybe he misspoke. That has certainly happened before. Again, why wouldn't the rest of my colleagues show some curiosity about such a major and, frankly, bone-chilling proposition? Are we talking about creating a police state here? The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesn't count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion. Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?

POPSPakistan Strikes At Taliban In Khyber Agency Roadblocks and checkpoints have been established in Peshawar in an effort to halt the movement of Taliban into the provincial capital. Government and security officials, business leaders, and residents have said the Taliban are poised to take Peshawar. The Pakistani government has "given full authority" to General Pervaiz Kayani, the Army Chief of Staff, to conduct operations to secure Peshawar. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani said the federal government fully supports efforts by the provincial government of the Northwest Frontier Province to conduct peace talks with the Taliban. Khyber has seen increased Taliban activity this year. Seventeen me members of the Frontier Corps were captured just days ago after they refused to abandon their checkpoints. In March, the Taliban blew up 42 trucks transporting fuel to NATO forces in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan was kidnapped in Khyber in February.

POPSElite US Army Academy Lures Kids With Mud and Duty this sickening; Kathleen Engle, 16, from Fairfield, California, said she had looked into the Peace Corps and other options but decided on the military. “I was in fifth grade when 9/11 happened and that’s when I decided the best thing I could do for my country was this,” she said, playing a video game called “America’s Army.” “I guess it’s going to be hard to kill someone, but if that’s your job and that’s what our commander tells us we need to do, I’m going to do that in order to protect my country.” Brainwashed at 16, or sooner

POPSThe Children of Web 2.0 "As much as I may decry much of the hot air that flows around terms like social media, social networks et al, something I read today makes me think that underneath all this self-importance and ego stroking that surrounds the tech blogosphere, something very important is happening. Much like how many of our true public servants rose out of the hippie and peace corps generation, we could very well be seeing the same generational birth of the real movers and shakers happening."

POPSCode Pink Protesters Disappointed With Berkeley City Council Council members Betty Olds and Laurie Capitelli on Monday proposed that Berkeley rescind its letter to the U.S. Marine Corps that stated that the downtown Berkeley recruiting center "is not welcome in our city," and publicly declare that Berkeley is against the war but supports the troops. The City Council will vote on Olds' and Capitelli's two proposals at its meeting next Tuesday. "I think we shouldn't be seen across the country as hating the Marines," said Olds, who voted against last week's proposals. "If you make a mistake, like we did, you should admit it and correct it and move on."

POPS U. S. Senator DeMint Is Mad As Hell Protesting the Marines is just a predictable by-product of the massive Bush Derangement Syndrome that exists in this God-Forsaken city. But they took it a step further and not only denounced the US Military but then wholly endorsed and even subsidized Code Pink. Is the city of Berkeley, California complicit in treason? Constitutionally, Code Pink did commit treason. The latest book by Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson (U.S. Air Force-Ret.) is called War Crimes: The Left's Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror. In the book, he claims that two anti-war groups -- "United for Peace & Justice" and "CODEPINK: Women for Peace" -- literally gave aid and comfort to terrorists when they delivered $600,000 in cash and supplies they claim was humanitarian aid to civilians.

POPSUS Describes Confrontation With Iranian Boats I believe that this was designed to raise the level of instability in the region; perhaps to dissuade the President from going to the region. Personally, I wish he wasn't going. There is nothing to be gained; especially not within the Palestinian/Israeli *peace plan*. Frankly it was a little reminiscent of the USS Cole incident.

POPSWho is really helping Africa? (It ain't Bono!) Is there not a newer and softer form of colonialism, that of international aid? Not that aid to foreign countries is a bad thing, but it is when we treat entire nations as if they were children incapable of learning to take care of themselves. Our snide paternalism and unchecked egotism have ensured that almost all our efforts to help the developing world have instead only hurt them. It seems that every time somebody does something for Africa, or the rest of the developing world, they are really just doing it for themselves. Which is why at the end of the day, the movie stars and millionaires get what they were looking for and go home, while Africa suffers on.
