Dance of the Straw-men
merrie
by merrie  6-14-2009    1
Consider the rhetorical straw-men that he marshals in speech after speech. Always divisive, always Alinsky-like, always agitating, the masterful community organizer can't help himself. On Health Care (03-05-2009): "...today, there are those who say On Taxes (09-26-2008): "...we all would love to lower taxes on everybody. But here's the problem: If we are giving them to oil companies, then that means that there are those who are not going to be getting them..." On Abortion : (09-01-2008) "...Choice is about how we lead our lives. It’s about our families and about our communities. It’s about our daughters and whether they’re going to have the same opportunities as our sons. There are those who want us to believe otherwise..." I'll be frank. I'm sick of his use of Alinsky's tactics. Always dividing, always creating straw-men, always creating scapegoats. Never once appreciating the wonder of individualism, of liberty, of our founders.

The groups that founded the Coalition of Women for a Just Peace are Machsom Watch, Nogoy, Feminist Journal, Women in Black, The Fifth Mother, TANDI, Bat Shalom, New Profile and NELED. Is it odd or normal that it's women who are leading the way in Israel towards a just and peaceful future for all? Why must women lead again? Because they seek "equal rights for women and for all residents of Israel "!!!

Obama v. King, on War and Peace
katsteevns
by katsteevns  12-4-2008
“Then came the buildup in Vietnam and I watched the program broken and eviscerated as if it were some idle political plaything of a society gone mad on war, and I knew that America would never invest the necessary funds or energies in rehabilitation of its poor so long as adventures like Vietnam continued to draw men and skills and money like some demonic destructive suction tube. “So I was increasingly compelled to see the war as an enemy of the poor and to attack it as such."

Michigan Left Storms Church
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  11-11-2008    18
The church's response? After things settled down, the blasphemy ended, the lewd props removed and the families safe from fear of additional men and women running into and past them the pastor took the stage and led the congregation in one more prayer... not for retribution, or divine justice or a celestial comeuppance (that's what I'd have prayed for) but instead that the troubled individuals who'd just defiled the Lord's house, so full of anger and hate, would know Jesus' love in their lives and God's peace that exceeds human understanding. Yesterday morning defined the difference between a church of believers and Michigan liberals. It also illustrated in shocking, painful detail precisely what we're up against.

Ex-Muslim Tells Pope Islam Is The Religion Of War
merrie
by merrie  10-31-2008    3
the general interest of Christianity and of Western civilization itself” that the Pope make a pronouncement in “a clear and binding way” on the question of whether Islam is a valid religion. The Catholic Church’s dialogue with Islam is based on the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (”Nostra Aetate”), which urged esteem for Muslims because “they adore the one God,” strive to follow his will, recognize Jesus as a prophet, honor his mother, Mary, “value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting.” The council called on Catholics and Muslims “to work sincerely for mutual understanding” and for social justice, moral values, peace and freedom. Allam told Pope Benedict he specifically objected to Cardinal Tauran telling a conference in August that Islam itself promotes peace but that “’some believers’ have ‘betrayed their faith,’” using it as a pretext for violence.

Social injustice breeds extremists
darkduskx
by darkduskx  9-24-2008    1
You can't truly say he's about love. It is wrong for him to want a nation for 7.2 million to be destroyed. That would only cause another refugee crisis if not countless deaths as we are seeing in Iraq. One cannot speak of love and totally demonize a nation of people. The reason his extremist point of view is accepted instead of opposed though is because he keeps pointing out injustices in order to justify his extremism. If we were to solve the Israeli-Palestinian issue and others once and for all, extremists like him would not have as much support. People of all sides who want peace need to unite and push for social justice so injustice does not breed extremists. From this clip you know there is people on both sides and in the US who want peace once and for all: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/9537C8CD-538E-4BF3-AA9B-D28EAACF6463/ I'm an American and I do not want my own country to collapse. (Historical Moment) for Cynthia McKinney
papananook
by papananook  8-23-2008
I really dig Cynthia McKinney and the way Obama has screwed up with his run to the right, she'll likely get my vote, win or lose. At least she blieves in the same things I do, especially about getting the military out of the worlds hair. Her interview oes on: This is the only party that even has social justice as its core principle. When we say ending the war, we mean all the wars. We need to get all the military out of every country, we need to begin to deal with issues of what peace can look like, how do you sustain that. Obviously, the green party is at the forefront of pushing the environment as a core value, that was innovative then. There should be an end to imprisoning young people, an immediate stop to the death penalty, a livable wage, not a minimum wage. Impeachment for George Bush and them is critical. I think if we don’t hold them accountable as a people, then anybody can do the same shit that they did.

yeah...there are no commies in Korea...
caoilfhionn
by caoilfhionn  8-7-2007    1
I have a reader at my blog who might be interested in this...lol...considering the heated debated about communists in Korea. It just seems strange to me that the communist fist that those captive were holding in the air - which seemed like the obvious sign of the labour - socialist groups - and even the Black Panthers - went unnoticed and unrecognized by people. Waddya know, there are "peace" activists even in Korea. And just like when Code Pink is standing alongside Cindy Sheehan or represented very visibly behind Valerie Plame when she was testilying before Congress...the media doesn't bother to identify who these people are. SHOCK.
