POPSParting Ways With The Right Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.) Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source) And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff. I won’t be going over the cliff with them.

POPSWatch out! Goblin Gummy Bears!!! The sheer absurdity of this story made me laugh out loud. Later, after sober reflection, I developed a sincere feeling of pity for this woman who is apparently in need of counseling.

POPSFormer Regent University Asst. Dean, Wife Plead Guilty On Child Sex Abuse Charges Court records show Stephen McPherson repeatedly molested two of the sisters under his supervision and manipulated them by citing Bible verses that he said justified the abuse. Melina McPherson engaged in sexual acts with the third sister, cited Bible verses to justify her actions and told the victim that “they had a special relationship,” according to court records. Stephen McPherson already is serving time on related sex abuse charges. He pleaded guilty in January to sexually abusing the two girls in Chesapeake. The McPhersons moved to Chesapeake in 2000 and took the three sisters there after adopting them, records show.

POPSThe Family - Christian Conservatism's Secret Society "He said it's sort of a totalitarian idea of Christianity and he gave as examples men who he believed understood the way power should be wielded. He actually gave as examples, Hitler, Pol Pot, Osama bin Laden and Lenin." Video at 2nd clipped source. The C Street House is, in my view, no different than a terrorist den. I'd really like to know how all the mouthy Christians around here acquit this with their junior moralizing.

POPSThe Love of Christ via Pat Robertson It is an indictment of Christianity in the USA that a man like Pat Robertson can have the platform and public support that he does. Comparing homosexual marriage between consenting adults to pedophilia and child molestation is outrageous. Yet the love of Christ doesn't constrain him from going there.

POPS A Bit of Fry&Laurie: If Rupert Murdoch hadn't been born... If Ronald Regan, Margaret Thatcher, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Irving Kristol, Prescott Bush, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Ted Turner, Vladamir Putin, Vince McMahon, Generoso Pope, Jr. ___, hadn't been born.

POPSAn Open Letter to President Obama About the Republicans (From a Former Republican) The Religious Right supply the kind of people who at McCain and Palin rallies were yelling things such as "kill him" about you. That's the constituency to which your hand was extended when looking for compromise on your financial bailout bill. There's only one thing that makes sense for you now. Mr. President, you need to forget a bipartisan approach and get on with the business of governing by winning each battle. You will never be able to work with the Republicans because they hate you. Believe me, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the norm not the exception. James Dobson and the rest are praying for you to fail. The neoconservatives are gnashing their teeth and waiting for you to "sell out Israel" or "show weakness" in Afghanistan, whatever, so they can declare you a traitor.

POPSExpected Reaction This is news? Any appointment left of Pat Robertson would roil the Right. I'm inclined to say "get over it". OK, I think I will -- get over it! Well, that felt good...

POPSMy Paul Weyrich Obit Weyrich, who died this morning , was a founding member of the religious right. Keeping a lower profile than similar minds like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, Weyrich managed to continue his career of professional hatred, bigotry, and lies until the day he died. Good riddance. For those of you reading this who are appalled that I'd be so callous on the occasion of a death of a fellow human being, I counter that Paul Weyrich wasn't a human being. He was hate and ignorance and antidemocratic philosophy incarnate. Paul Weyrich, bigot, idiot, and great big fan of voter suppression, dead at 66. The world is no poorer for the loss.

POPS"...The Paragon of Animals" Pat Robertson spews ignorance for all. It's amusing to watch him defend the indefensible. The only troubling aspect is that the MAJORITY of the US holds the same or similar views. Oh, how I pine for a return to the Enlightenment. Can any of you out there remember when being smart was an advantage? When did we regress to the point that intelligence became a liability?

POPSSay It Ain't So Pat Pat Robertson, that Nostradamus of the 21st century, has done it again. Although his previous predictions haven't fared all that well there's always a first time. And if his prognostications fail to materialize, there's always the "God works in mysterious ways" get out of jail free card. In conclusion, I'd like to offer my own Elixir of Health and Life Extender. Just send $4.98 to ...

POPSPray Away The Gay I'm saving my prayers to "pray the vote away" for McPalin. And I have 100 percent success rate with God answering my prayers.

POPSBeyond Homophobia "Today, however, many Californians — gay, lesbian, bisexual, and heterosexual — are celebrating a tremendous, long sought victory. And, no doubt, many are thinking of themselves as friends of this Court." Bravo!

POPS'Nazi' Pope Runs 'Child-Abusing Cult,' says HBO's Maher I am no Catholic...or defender of Imus or Pat Robertson or the LDS; but why does this hateful man's remarks not receive the condemnation that they deserve? There seems to be selective outrage within our society. He appears to have his own brand of 'cult' thinking that he spreads with impunity.

POPSObama's Minister Committed "Treason" But When My Father Said the Same Thing He Was a Republican Hero My dad's books denouncing America and comparing the USA to Hitler are still best sellers in the "respectable" evangelical community and he's still hailed as a prophet by many Republican leaders. When Mike Huckabee was recently asked by Katie Couric to name one book he'd take with him to a desert island, besides the Bible, he named Dad's Whatever Happened to the Human Race? a book where Dad also compared America to Hitler's Germany. We Republican agitators of the mid 1970s to the late 1980s were genuinely anti-American in the same spirit that later Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson (both followers of my father) were anti-American when they said God had removed his blessing from America on 9/11, because America accepted gays. Falwell and Robertson recanted but we never did.
